Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

I think $10 is too low for entry fees nowadays, personally.

Increasing the entry free only benefits the handful of people who have a chance at winning a tournament, and whatever increase you make will just be negated by the amount of people you will lose in entrants.

The problem is that it's $10 per game, so if someone wants to have fun and play in a game they like plus 5-6 games they are only okay at, like Smedwicks did, a price increase ramps up fast.

With that in mind, doing $10 per game, and then a deal where you can pay $50 to get into as many games as you want, might actually generate more revenue.

But the entry fee directly funds the pot, so if you do a deal like that, then you are going to screw the pots for other games. The money has to come from somewhere.

Does anyone know if there's a place to view the opening trailer before each of the grand finale? The only one I saw was ssf4 arcade edition

People are already spending hundred of dollars to go to EVO. An increase in entry fees by $10 will make little difference. You'll probably lose a few entries from people who enter games they don't play but that's about it.

People spend alot of money to go to EVO, but that doesn't mean that they are just going to throw away money on a tournament that they have no chance in winning. Just look at how long the tournament entry fee has been $10 and hasn't increased.

You will lose alot of the random people who just enters a tournament for the fun of it.

From the website: http://evo.shoryuken.com/evo-player-guide/evo-tournament-format/

Think you can place in the money? That’s the spirit. Evo awards cash prizes to the top eight places at a rate proportional to the number of attendees. Ten dollars from the registration fee of each participant will go into a tournament prize pool, which will be awarded to the top finishers at a 60/18/8/4/3/3/2/2 split. For example, if 300 people enter a tournament, the total prize pool for that tournament will be $3000 ($300 x 10), paying out $1800 to first place (60% of $3000), $540 to second place (18% of $3000), and $240 to third place (8% of $3000), and so on.

Not sure where the updated cash prizes info are located other than what has been said on twitter.

Sign up for the GG/P4A/BB tournaments people!

Oh, I'm actually changing the prize for Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +.

Instead of the Guilty Gear Isuka Original Soundtrack, it's gonna be this Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection.

Infrit beat FChamp once too. And Infrit played extremely well that year as well.

Well, we can only hope he doesn't change his team to something like Zero Vergil Taskmaster or that he does not get completely absorbed when BB: CP comes out, so he can actually keep performing well

Okay guys, Evo hype got to me. I want to try to get into fighting games. I have pretty much no experience with them besides Smash. What's a good game to start with? I would prefer to play on the PC, but I do have a 360. I don't have a membership for the 360, but I wouldn't be opposed to paying for one if something like Marvel is really worth it.

I know Skullgirls comes out for PC next month, which I want to try, but I don't know what to play right now. Any advice?

Persona 4 Arena is super, super easy to get into.
It also has great netcode.

Wow. Didn't someone here say something about someone something something trying to recruit AGE members at EVO? Things are coming together. And I have no respect for AGE. It took them Sp000ky to blow their asses up to finally actually support a tournament and as far as I can tell they only sponsored one tournament.

lol I'm at SDCC this week. Besides, threads aren't my thing.

You have no choice. I'm going to tell your girlfriend about what you did.

So unless some sponsor throws a bunch of extra money into the pot, that's it? That's a shitty payout for such a big tournament, but it's not really the fault of the organizers or anything. The money has to come from somewhere, so we'd need bigger sponsors for that to change.
