Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Sign up for the GG/P4A/BB tournaments people!

Oh, I'm actually changing the prize for Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +.

Instead of the Guilty Gear Isuka Original Soundtrack, it's gonna be this Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection.

I can't decide if I should also enter P4A or not. I've only had the game for 3 days so if I do enter me and my Labrys are probably going to get absolutely destroyed.

Okay guys, Evo hype got to me. I want to try to get into fighting games. I have pretty much no experience with them besides Smash. What's a good game to start with? I would prefer to play on the PC, but I do have a 360. I don't have a membership for the 360, but I wouldn't be opposed to paying for one if something like Marvel is really worth it.

I know Skullgirls comes out for PC next month, which I want to try, but I don't know what to play right now. Any advice?

Wait for AE to come up as a Daily/Flash/Community Deal in the Steam Sale going on right now and grab it. Grab Skullgirls when it comes out for PC. Get Divekick when it comes out in August for PC as well.

That's really cool of them to allow.

How good we talking? I always wanted to get it, how does it play? If its all about timing and shit I'll pass lol.

It's very straightforward and simple compared to most other modern fighting games. Perhaps too simple for my tastes. But it does have smooth online play, and if you're a fan of Persona you can't go wrong.

Well that sucks. Don't know if fanatiq or flash will pick up a sponsor for a while. Chris has his choice of sponsors. Knives is still solid, but has hit a wall.

Who else was in age?

ChrisG
Fanatiq
Knives
Vangief
Romance
Snake Eyes
Wolfkrone
FlashMetroid

Edit: Yeah plus the guys Panda mentioned.

IMO, the best game to get into is the one that excites you most.

If you want to go with PC-only, stick with Street Fighter or Skullgirls.

People spend alot of money to go to EVO, but that doesn't mean that they are just going to throw away money on a tournament that they have no chance in winning. Just look at how long the tournament entry fee has been $10 and hasn't increased.

You will lose alot of the random people who just enters a tournament for the fun of it.

Yeah. A huge percentage of the players in these tournaments are essentially making a donation when they play these games. All the prizes go to the pros. The only answer is sponsorship.

PR Rog is no stranger to getting blown up by Infiltration's Hakan though. Somebody was housing Infiltration, I think it might have been Justin and Infiltration was running long sets between him and PR Rog. For a while there, PR Rog couldn't do anything against him when he was using Hakan. And Infiltration has something like a 100+ win streak with Hakan at Superarcade.

Persona netcode is Arc netcode (note: Guilty Gear is NOT arc Netcode)

Arc netcode is almost on par with GGPO. I've had playable matches with Euros and even the occasional Japanese with it, and it's very good within the US.

Persona is probably one of the easiest to pick up games out there, it's kinda like the ST of the anime genre.

Street Fighter 4.

Simple to start playing, hard to master. SF is in peoples blood. Fireball motion is culturally recognized.

You should try doing some searching to see if there is a local fighting game club, or any kind of group, close to your area. You can learn and practice games by playing online, but it's far easier to learn if you have someone to show you the ropes offline.

I starting playing last year and found a local scene close to where I live, and they were extremely friendly and helpful.

Most local scenes play SF4 or Marvel, so those are good games to start with. There are many good non-Capcom games out there as well, so don't be afraid to try other games if you have a chance. You might end up liking them.

Chris G could probably find a sponsor more easier if he had a better personality. I think someone like EG would of snatch him up quick.

Hey guys I never to level up my game on SSF4.

I can play on 360, PS3, or PC.

GT for all is BizzyBum

I mainly play Ryu but dabble in Seth and Akuma

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I think I'm gonna go with Street Fighter 4 on the PC, and I'll try out Skullgirls when it comes out. And of course I'll be playing Divekick when that comes out on PC.

Persona 4 Arena is something I thought about trying as well. But I'd want to play the story mode, and I feel like I'd be pretty lost without ever having played Persona 4.

I don't know why anyone would pick up fanatiq right now, at least as a player instead of a personality or whatever. Right now I can't remember the last time he got a top 8 in marvel at a major. Just because he does well in money matches means nothing when it's all about tournament placing. idk, I guess there are a number of known but not consistent top 8 placers who get sponsored anyway.

He whores products out with dedication. That's something.
