Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Just thinking of who would fit best where

Chris - anywhere (soul fist would make a great BT shirt)
Fanatiq - name is too toxic
Knives - will get picked up somewhere, distance himself from fanatiq
Vangief/Snakeeyez/WolfKrone - Not a stick company
FlashMetroid - EMP?
Romance - Arcade Shock?

That's really sucky news about PDP/AGE

I thought everyone on the team, while maybe not being the most winning-est of players- was fun to watch.

I don't know why anyone would pick up fanatiq right now, at least as a player instead of a personality or whatever. Right now I can't remember the last time he got a top 8 in marvel at a major. Just because he does well in money matches means nothing when it's all about tournament placing. idk, I guess there are a number of known but not consistent top 8 placers who get sponsored anyway.

Is it, though? It seems like there are other factors which can play into sponsorship. Hence ShadyK's recent deal.

Razer should pick up Chris G imo. Razer should try to pick up more in the fgc but i wonder if they like sponsoring other teams like they sponsor EG.

EVO 2013 - 1,700,000 unique viewers.
• Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - 144,848 viewers.
• Super Smash Bros. Melee - 134,000 viewers.
• Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 - 125,000 viewers.

marvel is king

Nice timing it seems, with ChrisG spending the week in SoCal.
Perfect time for another team to snap him up.
His inbox must be flooding right now.

Wow this thread got big quick. I'll be adding MadCatz Unveiled to OP soon.

I was having trouble navigating the SDCC panels on my phone, but if there are any FGC events or panels that will be streamed, please let me know.

lol...

EG had Idra for years and it was ok. It wasn't until he did two things that got him kicked off (wishing somebody died from cancer and after getting a warning he told him fans that he couldn't give a shit about them)

Nobody is "too toxic" in the FGC to get sponsored.

At least the Capcom ones usually aren't streamed, so we'll depend once again on some random dude watching it and posting on Twitter

But Idra is a good player

Regarding AGE disbanding, I am sad that nobody remembered Mario, Chicago's only player with a non-evangelical sponsor.

I am also sad that the team is no more. Forget all the stuff leading up to and after UFGT, AGE was great for guys like Wolfkrone, Sabre, and Mario as it allowed them to attend more tournaments than they would've otherwise. I'm sure most of the players will end up with other sponsors. It's the guys who aren't from New York or California who will have it the roughest. Back to the status quo, I guess.

Fanatiq's whole face turn "I'm going to try now and cut out the MM stuff" now makes a lot more sense in context. Guess he knew what was coming.

A shame really. Less money in the fgc is going to hurt.

Kind of ironic for Chris G though. That EVO title around his neck would look pretty good right about now.

Im not into Smash but hats off to the community, they reaaaaaaaally love their game.
Kudos smash bros!

Well the way I see it if you're a well known and well spoken personality there's certainly the possibility of sponsorship. Fanatiq until very recently was not exactly endearing himself to much of the community. He couldn't back up his mouth is his tourney play either. It's certainly possible he gets a sponsorship but there's certainly a lot more sensible choices if another company is looking for people.

On a slightly related note, does anyone know how well PDP was paying Chris? I wonder if it was enough to live on if he only placed top 8 consistently with a few major wins instead of winning almost every marvel major he went to.

Who knows really, but given his complaints about money in the FGC, whilst still being sponsored by them, you wouldn't think it wasn't that impressive.

Soooooooo.... big things are cooking in the Smash community after what happened at EVO. The Fall's tournament season looks absolutely STACKED. I can't say much right now, but I'm blown away, personally.

What I will say is this: if you've become interested in competitive Smash (and by extension, Melee) and want to keep up on the latest, I recommend following www.twitch.tv/MeleeItonMe (yes, Scar changed the channel name, GET HYPE) and tuning in whenever possible. (And speaking of that, there will be an EVO recap episode tomorrow night at the usual time of 6 PM PST/9 PM EST)

And for tournament streams? www.twitch.tv/vgbootcamp has weekly Smash content at Xanadu on Tuesdays and cover some of the bigger tournaments. www.twitch.tv/clashtournaments also covers Smash tournaments, be it locals, regionals, or majors. Follow them if you want to be notified.

Also their youtube channels: www.youtube.com/VideoGameBootcamp and www.youtube.com/ClashTournaments

And speaking of CT, they uploaded all of the Doubles matches from the Doubles side tourney at EVO this past weekend for SSBM. Go to their channel and check them out! It was the BIGGEST doubles tournament in like... ever. Extreme high level stuff.

I just felt compelled to post that. Sorry if I interrupted any discussion! :)

Have you guys been looking into going to DA BEECH or getting anything going for The Fall Classic?

VxG already has Brawl afaik. I haven't heard anything in regards to The Fall Classic, but there is some more definite integration going on with Smash at some of the bigger FGC events coming up. It's... amazing.

No news on TFC and VxG is too close to change their lineup, but Jebailey has already confirmed Melee at CEO 2014, and it looks like Canada Cup added it to their lineup for this year.

The bigger events coming up in the next few months are Vindication 2 (August, Socal), Canada Cup (September, British Colombia), Big House 3 (October, Michigan), Pound V.5 (November, Maryland), Revival of Melee 6 (November, New York), and Tipped Off 9 (December, Georgia)

Oh I should mention, if you subscribe to the Melee It On Me channel, any money (according to Scar) he receives from that will be funneled right back into the community. Either towards events, equipment (like CRTs/Gamecubes), and so on.

It will 100% be Melee or, if it launches before CEO, the new Smash?
