Fighting Games Weekly | July 15-21 | Post-EVO Pillow Talk

Shh, he's too far gone

Let him dream
I appreciate your good will toward me. :-D

EVO got me into a bit of a playing spree for different fighting games. Switching around got me thinking about the advantages of diversifying and trying different titles.

If there was a fighting game university, what do you think is the one thing games could teach students learning the craft (I'm not talking about experts)?

For example.

P4A: It cops a lot of flak for being simple, but whilst playing this, I think above all else it has been teaching me not to press buttons. If you do like to sit there and hit things you will get blown up every single time.

What game would you use to teach how to conserve meter? What game is best for movement?
Meter conservation is definitely SSFIV.
Movement is Marvel.

Fuck this shit son... Japan ain't go shit on AMERICA in MAHVEL!!!!!

Little does he know that was FChamp's plan all along... played nice/sandbag against Nemo to lure him into a bigger MM later on.

I can pretty much burn the bridge on that one. It's the final season because the game has peaked. It's expensive as hell to produce, but we're doing it for the fans.

Well I guess I might as well ask, even if they didn't show up in the trailer...

*sigh* Any love for Hsien-Ko and Ammy this season?

EMP is basically survivor video game edition. See how long you can last in a video game house in a Jewish neighborhood surrounded by other high level players eating only Chef Boyardee 24/7 while having the man of the house take your money away.

Marvel is good to learn how to block as well. I noticed an improvement in my blocking in AE after just a short time with that game.
I thought I was good at blocking, and then I played Skullgirls. That game is brutal on your blocking ability. I would put that just slightly above Marvel. Heck, when I first started playing, Duckator was slaughtering me with Filia. So I asked him "What do I do to block all of that consistently once she's on?" He said: "There's really nothing you can do once she's in. You're dead. So don't let her in." The pressure is like Magneto +1.

Sad to hear on multiple accounts. Thank you for your devotion, though. I hope you have an excellent finale planned which leaves room for more in the future...just in case...you know. :-/

Northwestern Pennsylvania. I know there's a scene in Pittsburgh, but that's about 2 hours from where I live. There's also the fact that I'm probably a lot younger than most players, but if I were to make it out to a tournament or something I don't think it'd matter that much. Looks like there's gonna be some tournaments that are relatively near (by that I mean ~5 hours or so) and it'd be awesome to go. If I can't make them, then I'll definitely be watching streams.

East Coast Melee

Pennsylvania Melee

This thread is a great go-to reference for FB groups (maybe add it to the OP?)

Seeing how the Melee community carried themselves over the weekend was the most impressing thing about my EVO 2013 experience. I believe these guys are truly the most hardworking people when it comes to fighting games. I mean, I would see the dudes going at it before the doors opened, going at it with casuals while pools were running, when the finals were going and even late Sunday when everyone left the main event room.

The hype, man... They were going insane at pools, at the semis, and the top 8 finals were amazing. I can't think of any other game more deserving to come back to EVO 2014 than a (by next year) 13-year old game.

I had a lot of awesome experiences over the weekend, but I will say that I really want to play Smash way over Marvel due to the dedication they showed. Good shit, guys.

;_;

I'm crying

Yeah, we really, really, really love our game

Online it is called spamming but it seems that in evo it is called strategy

Yeah. Pretty pathetic. No idea why this is being encouraged with money rewards. That's the kind of crap my 7 year old nephew does.

Smash fans are some of the greatest fans out there. I've noticed this as I get to know to more and more people in the NM scene (Sliraobe God, tw1n, Light, and others). Good players, good teachers, and not too many complainers. Just from playing a few sessions with the local scene I've gone from zero knowledge to having a decently good Peach.

The dedication of the Smash scene is pretty impressive to me, especially considering how much Nintendo goes out of their way to shit on you guys.

I'll be honest, I really enjoyed only three things this Evo:

Reynald wrecking Woo in KOF, Jwong's epic comeback and BananaKen coming so close to beating LordKnight at P4U.

I honestly thought that Reynald would have completely lost that Grand Finals, and then he caught Woo choking so HARD.

I'm a big fan of both Jwong and Chris G, but Wong caught Chris G where it hurt...his lack of defense. Wong took full advantage, but none the less, it was an amazing match.

Man with the way people hate spamming so much, that LoL fighter is going to be a huge hit. Cooldown on specials? Casuals will love it!
I heard some talk during EVO about a Nova mix-up involving his down-forward airdash. Any word on that?
It was used at the tournament. It's just you hover above someone looking like you want to do an air dash down overhead but you call an assist then do an air dash down forward behind them for a cross up. It's not something most people expect from the character as they are usually expecting an overhead from the front in that situation.

Hyperbole much? Just booted it up on my Wii with component cables and the game still looks really good.

Why is there no wave dashing though?:(
Late reply, but TvC does have a wavedash of sorts. It just has a really obtuse input: 6565695

Jiyuna trying to make a shitty drama by putting four tweets into one, it's not that trollish conversations.
But this is the best kind of drama...

I want FChamp to be furious over losing to Nemo 20-10. Shit is pathetic... this is a GOD of the fucking game and he loses that bad?

Someone needs to arrange a high stakes MM at a big stage. Fucking fly over Nemo if you have to. I would personally bet $100 on a side here. Japan can't be insulting America like that at their own game.
