You missed the Sleeping Dogs flash sale. [On sale. Buy it]

Bought Year Of The Snake at the 50% off. It's not saying much, but it's probably the best DLC story add-on available. (Nightmare is awful, Zodiac lasts less than 3 hours)

Never seen the C4 before though. Beaten the main game, and I don't believe I've seen it.

Sleeping Dogs was the first Grand Theft Auto-style game I've ever finished. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA style games and have bought every GTA since Vice City on day one; including the PSP games but excluding Chinatown Wars. And I think a lot of them are better than Sleeping Dogs. But something hooked me in Sleeping Dogs which drove me to get one of my very few platinum trophies on PS3.

I highly recommend it, and I'd imagine the PC version is a lot better.

I'm sure I'll love GTA V more due to my love of the scale of the San Andreas map, but it remains to be seen whether I will complete the actual story. It's not a requirement for me to complete the game to enjoy open world games like that though.
I think Nap Pups lends itself to story completion and getting 100% in the game a lot better than GTA games and other open worlds. The story is short and eventually all the collectaibles show up on the mini map. Steam says I have played for 41 hours and I think I've done everything but the 1 DLC.

Is Zodiac worth it?

Yes, you get an outfit with muay thai moves.

Ahahah, does the gif in the OP have that old school store chime "da dun" when you fly in? If so, awesome.

Delicious game, Bought it + all the DLC (sans the money/xp ones) in one of the innumerous sales and definitely got my money worth after 75 hours played and getting all achievements. Still need to start Year of the Snake though, already bought it but I wish it was released when I was balls deep into the game. I'll try to play it after I'm done with Bio Infinite.

PSA Game and DLC are 75% off as a daily. Just FYI - got the Year of the Snake and Wheels of Fury (which looks so-so, but eh, $1)

Free > Steam sale.

ps+4lyf.

But yeah, this game is fantastic. Best open world game this generation right alongside inFamous.

Okay I think it's time for you guys to finally sell me on this game since it's on a daily deal. What makes it unique from the likes of GTA and Saints Row.

The one thing that's impeded me from enjoying the GTA games as much as everyone else is how much I hate the controls. I'm loving Saints Row The Third right now because it's basically GTA with actual good controls and just tries to be fun above all else.

Where does Sleeping Dogs fit here?

didn't expect the 99 cents DLC to go even cheaper. Oh well can't cry over 2 dollars

got the bigger DLC's for a much better price

Gonna start this tomorrow

So what DLC is worth it?

Bought the game the other day and having a blast.

Bought Nightmare in Northpoint and that's it.

The base game plus all DLC for just over US$20.

What a steal.

A vast majority of the DLC is costume packs, and most of the mission DLC is satirical and non-canon (or so absurd it couldn't be). Nightmare at Northpoint is a satirical take on C-grade Chinese horror films. Zodiac Tournament does the same of C-grade Chinese kung fu movies from the 60s/70s. Both are awesome in their satire, but also pretty short lived and one note, focusing on the former for enjoyment. Wheels of Fury is all kinds of dumb fun because it's based around Wei Shen building his own batmobile. The construction missions are very short and few, but there's a bunch of arcade missions after. It's far less story driven and more based around vehicle arcade-like missions.

Year of the Snake is probably the meatiest of them all, and is also the one distinctly canon, as it takes place after the main game. Doesn't really advance the plot, but it's grounded in the Sleeping Dogs universe and Wei Shen's character arc. It doesn't introduce much new, but uses more or less every base mechanic from Sleeping Dogs to make up a variety of missions. Of all the DLC it's the one that feels the most focused, complete, and like it would be part of the main game rather than a side diversion.

Is any of the non major DLC worth it? I'm deciding between just buying the four big ones or just buying all of it.

what are the 4 big ones?

Zombie,Year of Snake, Zodiac Tourney and the Car?

and I got all the cool martial arts movie ones. Can't wait to ride on my nimbus bike and fight gangsters with my body coated in copper

I didn't buy the boost packs because those sounded super lame. Wouldn't get the complete pack for that alone

Well, I'm sold for Year of the Snake. For $1.74, I can't say no.

Downloading the hi-res texture pack now. It's weird that there's no way to download it for the first time with the textures already installed.

Unless something really good comes up in tomorrow's deals I'll get the mission DLC's. I recently Platinumed the PS3 version but felt curious about the DLC, good thing a gaffer gifted me SD when the price fuck up happened on the last sale, now I can replay it again. :D

Story:
Year of the Snake <- Longest, canon
Nightmare at Northpoint <- Non-canon, references the main plot (play it after completion), satire of Chinese horror films
Zodiac Tournament <- Irrelevant if canon, satire of Chinese kung fu movies

Little-to-no story, more arcade:
Wheels of Fury <- Wei Shen builds a batmobile. Lots of arcade missions.
SWAT pack <- Handful of generic police missions
Street Racer pack <- Handful of racing missions

Most everything else is a costume or aesthetic pack. Costumes often come with some goofy bonus weapon or move, or a bonus vehicle (eg: Monkey King pack comes with a costume, staff, and cloud bike). Some packs come with one arcade mission, like a generic fist fight tournament.

welp game is awesome EatChildren was right.

I got the base game plus

  • Year of the Snake
  • Zodiac Tournament
  • Nightmare at Northpoint
  • Dragon Master Pack for $1.99
Which includes
-Triad Enforcer Pack
-Deep Undercover Pack
-GSP Pack
-Martial Arts Pack
-Police Protection Pack

Game takes a massive dump on GTA4 and SR3.

How good is the PC version for someone a couple years behind in terms of specs? I was hoping to get the PS3 version eventually(so I'd have a smooth version at least), but this is a hard price to beat.
