I think Nap Pups lends itself to story completion and getting 100% in the game a lot better than GTA games and other open worlds. The story is short and eventually all the collectaibles show up on the mini map. Steam says I have played for 41 hours and I think I've done everything but the 1 DLC.Sleeping Dogs was the first Grand Theft Auto-style game I've ever finished. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA style games and have bought every GTA since Vice City on day one; including the PSP games but excluding Chinatown Wars. And I think a lot of them are better than Sleeping Dogs. But something hooked me in Sleeping Dogs which drove me to get one of my very few platinum trophies on PS3.
I highly recommend it, and I'd imagine the PC version is a lot better.
I'm sure I'll love GTA V more due to my love of the scale of the San Andreas map, but it remains to be seen whether I will complete the actual story. It's not a requirement for me to complete the game to enjoy open world games like that though.
Is Zodiac worth it?
Okay I think it's time for you guys to finally sell me on this game since it's on a daily deal. What makes it unique from the likes of GTA and Saints Row.
The one thing that's impeded me from enjoying the GTA games as much as everyone else is how much I hate the controls. I'm loving Saints Row The Third right now because it's basically GTA with actual good controls and just tries to be fun above all else.
Where does Sleeping Dogs fit here?
Yuuuuup.I didn't miss anything. I have the game for free on PS plus already![]()
How will it run on a Q6600 and an HD6850?
I'm pretty sure dogs don't sleep, which is why I will never buy that game.
This is the type of game that will drop lower correct? I think ill wait. $5 or lower is when I jump in.
So what DLC is worth it?
Bought the game the other day and having a blast.
Bought Nightmare in Northpoint and that's it.
Is any of the non major DLC worth it? I'm deciding between just buying the four big ones or just buying all of it.
The base game plus all DLC for just over US$20.
What a steal.
A vast majority of the DLC is costume packs, and most of the mission DLC is satirical and non-canon (or so absurd it couldn't be). Nightmare at Northpoint is a satirical take on C-grade Chinese horror films. Zodiac Tournament does the same of C-grade Chinese kung fu movies from the 60s/70s. Both are awesome in their satire, but also pretty short lived and one note, focusing on the former for enjoyment. Wheels of Fury is all kinds of dumb fun because it's based around Wei Shen building his own batmobile. The construction missions are very short and few, but there's a bunch of arcade missions after. It's far less story driven and more based around vehicle arcade-like missions.
Year of the Snake is probably the meatiest of them all, and is also the one distinctly canon, as it takes place after the main game. Doesn't really advance the plot, but it's grounded in the Sleeping Dogs universe and Wei Shen's character arc. It doesn't introduce much new, but uses more or less every base mechanic from Sleeping Dogs to make up a variety of missions. Of all the DLC it's the one that feels the most focused, complete, and like it would be part of the main game rather than a side diversion.
Unless something really good comes up in tomorrow's deals I'll get the mission DLC's. I recently Platinumed the PS3 version but felt curious about the DLC, good thing a gaffer gifted me SD when the price fuck up happened on the last sale, now I can replay it again. The base game plus all DLC for just over US$20.
What a steal.
It's alright, don't be fooled by gaf thinking it's the greatest game ever.
