You missed the Sleeping Dogs flash sale. [On sale. Buy it]

How good is the PC version for someone a couple years behind in terms of specs? I was hoping to get the PS3 version eventually(so I'd have a smooth version at least), but this is a hard price to beat.

What's a couple years behind? it ran maxed out (without the super anti aliasing and extreme ssao(which was glitchy(wait braces within braces this post is getting super meta))) on my 3 year old computer with a 5870 and i5 760. Oh and it maintained a playable framerate throughout 45 - 60 fps. Mostly 60.

But how much FPS? Because i'm running it maxed out with the HD texture pack and am getting 120max FPS and 55 minimum on my GTX 670. I put Normal AA, instead of the extreme option. I too have a 5870 on my other PC and i'm skeptical it would even run at 40 FPS tops with the settings you have.

60? Normal AA, Normal SSAO maxed out 1920 x 1080.

A laptop I bought a couple years ago, runs Witcher 2 decently on medium settings, hardly optimal.
(Don't ask how old my desktop is.)

Depending on the resolution and graphics card in the laptop you could be fine ?
Maybe someone that frequently peruses the gaming laptop thread could give you a better answer, my knowledge on laptops is non-existant.

There's a demo. Why not try it and see how it runs?

I picked it up and am enjoying it but there are two things I'm finding really annoying:
1) There's no quick camera center. I haaate having to manually swing the camera around. I've taken quite a few sucker punches to the face while waiting for the camera to catch up and crashed into my fair share of cars waiting just out of sight while trying to make hasty getaways.
2) There's a few too many car/foot chase missions for my liking. It almost seems satirical at times. That guy stole my wallet! Chase mission. That guy stole some drugs from us! Chase mission. Stop that guy he owes me money! Chase mission. That van is getting away with my wedding cake, get it! Chase mission. -_-

Tried out the demo. Pretty entertaining game, but I probably won't get the time to play it between now and the next Steam sale, but I'll definitely put it on my "eventually" list. Especially after I finish Saints Row The Third.

Also once I can get a new computer. The game runs excellently on my current setup but probably because I had it running mostly on medium. I'd like to be able to get the same performance on max.

Problem is, I'm holding off on playing a lot of my PC games (Saints Row included) until I can get a new computer so I can run them all maxed out. They all run well enough now, but I've reached a point I've had to deck them down to medium settings. I also want to try out ENB on some games. The biggest example is Skyrim, which is starting to choke my Q6600.

I want to pick this up soooooo badly, but I literally have about 100+ games in my backlog... I'll wait until the christmas sale I guess, hopefully it will be down to a clean $5 by then.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: If you buy the $13 pack of all the DLC's on STEAM, be aware that it includes 2 "pay to win" upgrades that pushes your character to level 8 of 10 in Face, Police, and Triad. It's bogus.

Set the game to not auto update. If you bought the DLC pack but didn't install, do not install the Top Dog Silver Pack and Top Dog Gold Pack. If you already did install the DLC pack, then go to the local files and delete:

1E6323E1 - which is the Top Dog Gold Pack
576E446C - which is the Top Dog Silver Pack

Not sure why they ever came out with those two specific packs that do nothing but kill the entire leveling structure of the game by basically nearly maxing you out right away.

(might be cool to add for a second playthrough or whatever though.)

I can't run The Waifu 2 that well on my laptop but Sleeping Dogs ran really well even with the HD texture pack. i5, GT640m, 6GB ram

It should be mentioned that that DLC Complete Pack is false advertising, It doesn't include Year of the Snake.

Buyer beware.

I'm lucky i double checked to see. I just went with Year of the Snake, Zodiac Tourney, Nightmare in North Point and Dragon Master pack instead for $6.70.

yea, i own half the DLC already so i only bought the ones that were left that i wanted. can't believe they would leave out one of the story ones.

Buyer beware.

You and anybody who purchased it should file a complaint/dispute to get your money back or Year of the Snake included, and to ensure the pack's description gets changed.

whenever i get another card drop ill probably buy year of the snake. I just need 3 more cents

edit: got up to take laundry out of the dryer, came back two cards dropped now they just need to be bought

I had more fun playing Sleeping Dogs than gta 4 and Saints row. With the price this cheap everyone on gaf should buy it now!!!

Does anyone know how I can tell STEAM to only download specific DLC content after disabling the auto-update? There's certain content I don't want and certain content I do want.

Or is "download everything then delete content" the only way to do it?

Currently I'm really enjoying GTA IV on my new rig and pick up Sleeping Dogs on a whim since I enjoy the demo on my old computer but held off buying it since I won't get to run it at maximum eye candy visuals.

Bought Year of the Snake DLC and now waiting for the download to complete. :O

don't forget to grab the Hi-rez texture pack, guys. it's in the Store page in the DLC section and it's free.

Thanks for the headup. Added it and does Steam auto-download the pack?

Stealth edit: Try to launch the game and it starts downloading all the DLCs.

Sorry if this is inappropriate for this thread but how much better is the PC version? I have PSN Plus and just got Sleeping Dogs for PS3 for free.

I have never played it. Is it really worth buying for PC? I've seen some shots and videos and it seems like a GTA/Saints Row clone.
Which isn't necessary a bad thing I guess.

Would be fun if they had a hitman survival mode where u keep killing targets and they keep getting more bodyguards and the cops get crazier or something.

Really loved the game. Hope a sequels announced soon

It is a GTA clone indeed. If you like the idea of a GTA:Hong Kong with a classic undercover cop story, get it. At this price, it's worth it even if you just go around and enjoy the setting (the entire city is unlocked since the beginning).

On a sidenote, don't buy the tattoo DLC, it's crap. The tattoos are considered an "outfit" so you can't wear anything else or it would remove them. If you want to show out your awesome yakuza tattoos, you must go around in a fundoshi. /facepalm

So glad I bought this.

So much fun easily better than GTA and Saints row.

Love how I am like 5 hours into the game and have yet to fire a gun.

Yes, it is worth buying. It's an amazing game.

For people asking, the console versions run and look like ass. They're basically the PC version running on lowest settings and still look worse. Not worth it if your PC can handle it. Console versions are playable but PC version is preferable.

Performance on the pc version is amazing too.

Not just a console port from the looks of it.

Solid 60 fps with everything on and playing at 1440p. High res textures and all.

Played the game, beat it, loved it, I'm going for 100% now, but the horrific cutscene stuttering drove me crazy. Does anyone know a fix? It shows up as a steady 60fps on Fraps but the movement is jittery as all hell.

FUCK, the DLC is not available in the German store. How can I get the Year of the Snake DLC?

Add me on Steam and I'll gift it to you. Addy: EatChildren

Ran through Zodiac Tournament and started Year of the Snake yesterday. I don't know what happened to me but I had way less trouble than Vinny did when Giant Bomb did their QL of Zodiac, I think I died exactly once--and that's despite the fact that I forgot half the moves, though knowing exactly what to do during the penultimate mission was really handy and probably saved me a lot of deaths. Took me about an hour. I'd call it skippable but for a buck it's not bad.

Year of the Snake is pretty cool so far, but I wish it made you/facilitated playing more like an actual police officer. For example, most of the time you'll end a mission without a car. You can't call in to get a police cruiser, so either you'll have to run all the way, find a garage, or commandeer someone's vehicle for "urgent police business," aka "I'm lazy and want to drive to the next mission like I have the entire rest of the game." I do like how United Front changed the animation for hijacking a car so you actually act like a police officer instead of a street thug, though (you actually stop and show your badge instead of opening the door and ripping someone out of the driver's seat).

It's also a little weird how you don't have a partner like most cops do. But I guess that would make it a more involved piece of DLC than Square Enix was willing to fund. Anyways, still fun, definitely worth two bucks!

Buyer beware.

The store page appears to be wrong. I checked the properties and DLC tab (I bought the DLC Complete Pack too). There are 27 items listed which includes Year of the Snake.

Edit: This is what I see:
