Maybe SCV would have sold more than SC4 if more casual fluff was added to the game and didn't need to compete with other fighting games releasing in the same time frame, but how many fighting games even reach 1.7mil+ in sales?
It's funny when I see people on here say that SCV received no support because I saw the support Namco gave SC4 which was non-existent. I wish people didn't take the support that Namco gave to SCV for granted, or even the support from people like MarkMan for granted. I'd love to see Namco do more, but to say that they've done nothing for the game is wrong, and money doesn't grow on trees. But on the competitive side, alot of support was given.
I don't get the people who say that they hate the changes to SCV when there weren't that many people who played the previous games seriously. You need to make changes to attract new players, and I've seen more new players come into SCV than I ever did in the 4 years I played SC4 competitively. Japan didn't even take the game seriously for years and now they're constantly having offline and online tournaments for it. That's huge.
Hell, I never seen a successful side tournament at EVO take place for Soulcalibur, and we had people who stepped in to organize it and ComMando to stream it on Saturday and MadCatz have top 8 on their stage. Even Fuudo and Itabashi Zangief who just took 1st place at SEAM 2013 and is one of the top players in Japan for SCV participated.
Of course I would love infinite support, but the game has been out for a year and a half. It is what it is. But I don't see anything about SCV to really be down about unless you're looking for a non-popular character or fanservice that's not currently in the game. There was plenty to be down about SC4, so when I see the complaints people have about SCV, I laugh because they're silly. And the characters that aren't in SCV, nobody played in SC4 except for a handful of loyalists because they were garbage.
But what's important is how the game plays competitively and online which they both got right on. If you like SCV, great. If not, there's other fighting games to play. It's not the end of the world.
