Was the sword designed to cauterize wounds? If not, it makes sense it was only used in the air and underwater to avoid splattering acidic kaiju blood around populated areas.

Otherwise, rule of cool.
It does spray a ton of blood around. Never thought of that.

The carcass was in the "throat" the whole time, but then I don't understand why the explosion broke the throat since it seemed to be on the other side of the portal.
The alien place where the jaeger exploded was maintaining the rift.

I apologize if it's been asked before, but how were the escape pods supposed to get back through the portal without Kaiju DNA?

For what it looked like the whole corridor was in the same watery miasm as the alien world, and maybe that is enough for letting you exit, while to get back the alien DNA is a must.

When I build interdimensional portals to invade other planets, I only want to stop them coming through to my side. No need to protect the door going the other way.

If this was a video game the last level would have been breaking havok on that alien world instead of just exploding. Beating a boss battle against the clock and destroying the alien facility in the process to end up in a series of QTEs

Am I the only one with an addiction problem?
I'll probably be seeing this film a 4th and 5th time over the next weekend.

The final boss was so disappointing in design, I was getting hype and then saw a load of tentacles. Knowing Del Toro is a fan of lovecraft I thought we was about to get some cthulhu mix of all the previous kaiju with wings and stuff.

You guys have probably already mentioned it but, the Jaeger in that Jesus pose just before it exploded was a reference to this, yeah?

Yeah, was my thought also.

Just saw this and really liked it

hey guys did you know, those two open ports on both sides of Cherno's head is actually a weapon known as "The Incinerator" you probably didn't catch that because they didn't fucking use them in the movie.....not only did the not use them, they didn't even mention that's what they were, or did you know the fist were actually charged with electricity, probably not because there was nothing Tesla about either of those fist

Or did any of you guys know Crimson could kick

I've realized this movie would have been 1000 times better if Gypsy Danger was the only Jaeger ever built, a collaboration between the world to fight the Kaiju threat, that way they get to flesh out the only Jeager they obviously cared about without having to treat everything else in the movie like a bastard step child you never wanted but was forced to look after, it would have also freed up more of the budget to put in more action scenes in the movie

I agree. Though I love when a movie does something like this.

I thought How To Train Your Dragon was great because of the final boss.

For me Pacific Rim has been one of the few films to actually wow me and the first in a very long time to leave me amazed at the CGI and special effects rather than just being ho hum. Was sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time really.

Also, Mako holding Raleig in the end, with him saying, "I can't breathe. You're holding me too tight."

:p

i saw the movie yesterday its a okay movie(story and character), the fight scene were cool but i was disappointed at the final monster its died so fast and why did guillermo kill the russia and china mech :( so fast

No the movie would be 1000x worse. One Jaeger couldn't protect the world so there wouldn't be a collaboration between the world.

only in this movie one Jeager DID protect the world so wrong.

remember this movie marked the beginning of the double event and who killed BOTH of them, who killed the Cat. 5, who finished off a Cat. 4 by cutting it in half.......TWO TIMES!! who collapsed the rift

If the title of this movie accurately represented what we saw it would be called Gypsy Danger fucks everything up and everyone else either dies or dies later......

One Jaeger to rule them all, One Jaeger to bind them, One Jaeger to bring them all into the darkness spite them

this is that one Jaeger

Really wish they had thrown an additional fight in the middle of the movie to break up all the exposition. It was quite heavy, and would of been a good way to show some of the other Jaegers actually fight.

Favorite moment of the movie: Dragging the cargo ship like a samurai sword.

Read the prequel comic book. Only really good part was
the detailing of the first Jaeger battle ever using Yukon Brawler

There may have been one Jeagar left standing before it exploded and saved the world, but that one Jaeger sat in a scrapheap for years while dozens of others saved the world one kaiju at a time.

This movie would be 1000 times better with introductory fight scenes of Cherno and Crimson kicking ass.

I agree. And Pentecost soloing the three Kaiju at the end after ejecting Chuck. This movie needed that "I'll handle this - you carry on!" moment, ala G-Gundam.

Still my movie of the year. Probably my movie of the next couple years.

Yep, especially when the kid's father who is presumably his best mate did that "That's my son you've got there" line. Didn't make sense that no one else ejected when good pilots are so hard to come by.

At the moment all the deaths feel a bit pointless. You get the feeling that Gypsy would have handled it on its own no matter what; the plot could have started with it being the last Jaegar in existence and progressed pretty much the same way.

yeah... weird that marshall didn't save the aussie son. He even promised.

Well i guess he needed him there to activate the nuke... someone in R&D didn't think this through.

Use both your hands, Stacker! GODDAMMIT

That would've made it so much better if he had forced Chuck to evac against his wishes then solo nuked

But it would've given away the evac stuff I think so that's why they didn't do that

Oh well, next time apologize, Chuck!

Also would have preferred to see Pentecost take them in single combat instead of nuking. He didn't get nearly enough time to show off his badass skills - less time than the Chinese and the Russians, even.

we never saw the extent of the blast but it was a fairly large nuke, its probably he just would never have gotten far enough away in time. plus the kaiju are aware of the pilots, ejecting could have just gotten him eaten.

having gypsy be the only Jaegar would have taken away a lot of the weightiness behind the movie and made the kaiju seem completely ineffectual.

I thought he didn't evac him as the nukes shockwave would've killed him anyway.

Seeing this again on Sat for the third time. I would keep going back to see it if I was able to as for some reason I just love this movie. Wish we could have seen more action from Cherno though she looked like bloody beast.

I don't know why that needs to be saved as a surprise. Just felt a bit odd that the only time they thought of evacuating was at the most critical part of the mission and from the alien world, as if they were saved only with a potential sequel in mind. I wouldn't have minded if they died as well and be more like
Sunshine

Yep, as much as it pains me to say it, we needed fodder mechs to hammer home the point that the tides really had turned.

The son knew he likely wasn't coming back, with his goodbyes to his father and the dog and all that. One thing GDT did well was convey that the odds were so stacked (no pun intended) against our robot pilots. It was a monumental struggle and sacrifice for them to even get Gipsy into the breach.

How could 1 Jaeger protect the whole world? It can't be everywhere at once. If its stationed in the US it would take some time for it to reach Australia or Russia if the kaiju attacked there. And let's be real, if there was only 1 Jaeger it would be stationed in the US.

I understand the frustration, I share your complaint about the other Jaegers being misused. That said, I think the movie would have been lesser for their absence. They really lent the movie a sense of global urgency that one mech probably wouldn't have been able to convey.

So now I lay in bed each night thinking about giant robots. Is there anything else you guys can recommend that feel similar to Pacific Rim in terms of fights where the mechs and monsters actually feel huge?

I've already seen the following

Big O
End of Evangelion
Gozilla Final Wars
Giant Robo

Yep, as much as it pains me to say it, we needed fodder mechs to hammer home the point that the tides really had turned.

Yeah, I get what you mean, but there's also a side of me that just wants to see other mechs in action. Maybe they could have put up more of a fight before getting taken out. Make it more desperate with more back and forth keeping us in suspense if they were enough to win, then finally have them taken out just when it looks like they won.

nope it would stationed on a mobile command center which would be sort of a Jaeger in an of itself (a giant sea turtle)
