Sure if you have access to a Japanese arcade

Now I can tell, lol. At first I just thought there was an L there, because for whatever reason my brain was like "That makes sense" instead of reading.

Hopefully the Major Nelson comment is a good one, haha! And we were about middle right, despite getting in the area before 10.

Yeah, it's a good one. I consider Major to be a cool dude, MS PR duties aside.

It's true that WB has nothing to gain, but I think doing a patch for MK would build some good will for the next MK for competitive players. Of course some engine problems can't be fixed as those will most likely require recreating mk9. All the patch would be doing is making a few changes to the cast like bringing Kano back and maybe taking out a few resets.

Chances of this patch happening is unlikely and will have to wait for the next MK, but with Boon said they considered it before and MS not charging for updates anymore why not try to get something going?

As for MK10 storywise I can't wait to see what they do with characters from MK4 onward.

Yoooooo, dat Air Demon. That would have made the crowd explode if it was on the main stage. Chris looked real impressive in that match. Made it seem like a bad matchup for Honda. Didn't know that ground pound could stuff EX headbutt.
His unusual air options seem really problematic for Honda.

It's best not to waste too much energy thinking about the opinions of crazy people.
Pretty much.

You just have to accept that some people are more interested in passing judgement from hearsay and feeling superior about themselves than having a conversation and give them no more consideration than they deserve.

I couldn't watch live due to work, so I'm watching the archived streams for Evo 2013, and holy fucking shit at that KOF final! KOF is really starting to be my favorite to watch in competition. I hope the rest of the Top 8's are this good.

High level KOF is sick. It's also nice to know that, yeah, everyone drops combos at some point in that game.

Much better photos and presentation than EVO's official photographer (Karaface). I was watching her photo editing stream for a bit yesterday. She hasn't really evolved with her esports photos since 2010 and her galleries with hundreds of similar looking photos is pretty cumbersome to browse through. Less is more, gotta curate! Doesn't help that the Polygon guy also has better equipment. Talent is always key, but expensive, pro-level equipment helps a ton

I mostly agree, though in Kara's defense she may be asked to capture as many of the players as possible so that people can have their "I was there" photo. Waiting around for a moment (one that often doesn't even come) isn't always an option.

I agree so much with the call to curate, though ... not just with Kara but with 90% of the tournament photography I see. Nobody wants to look at 500 photos just dumped into a Flickr gallery. But even if you "need" to deliver 1800 photos, at least have a highlights gallery.

(And a protip for anyone taking photos in general: cull, cull cull. Only show the best 10% of anything you photograph and most people will think you're amazing.)

Equipment is overrated, though. Almost everything from the past 3-4 years does usable ISO 6400, especially at web resolutions. Newer cameras just help the "wow" factor of image quality. Even Polygon's photog was using a camera from 2008.

Came across this in a Polygon feature on two Starcaft 2 commentators:

The brothers bought a copy of the game. They took turns playing, one watching over the other's shoulder, shouting commands and telling the other person how they were doing everything wrong. Their internet was slow, and matches were fun but not as competitive as they could have been. Wanting a challenge unhindered by their dial-up connection, the brothers went to a LAN cafe to play.

"I remember there was some guy who was about five years older than us who was basically an asshole who beat us and then talked shit," Nick Plott says. "I think that was my initial motivating factor. I wanted to go back there and beat him again, so my brother and I practiced a lot."

We never ended up going back there because the internet came out."

Connected to the world at high speeds with access to Korean servers, the brothers realized they'd found a love in competitive StarCraft. Like Stemkoski, they fell in love with the game's depth and challenge. StarCraft wasn't just about twitch reflexes; there was strategy at every level, it overflowed with nuance and no matter how good the brothers got, they could always find someone who could beat them. By the time they were in high school, the Plott brothers were entering StarCraft tournaments and consistently winning. Naturally, school suffered.

It's like the complete opposite outcome of what you'd hear from someone who grew up with fighting games, hahaha.

My favorite evo moment was when xian sniped akuma under an air fireball with low ass life from near half screen away. That shit was HAWT

Top 5 hypest moments of Evo is coming up. I really wanted to put me playing KI on stage in there, but it's about the show and not about my dream coming true. There is a slight nod at the end showing how the crowd actually reacted to KI being on stage.

Honestly might be one of the hypest videos I've ever made. ETA 30 mins.
