- Ken seems to suggest that KI will be cheaper than the $60 standard at launch. (!!!)
Yeah, they alluded to it several times. Good news if true :)

"no fucking way is this a free to play game" - ken lobb

great panel
Haha!

Yeah, it is a really long panel but if you have any interest in KI check it out for sure. Really good info in there.

What's you guys thoughts on Eyedol and Gargos being included? Have them as playable characters, or reserved for more powerful boss enemies only?

I never cared for either as characters, really. I also don't really think Fighting games should waste time on "Just Boss" characters anymore. Give them hyper powers and a "new mode" for endgame, but don't lock away all that character work to a single player-mode-only use.

Same way I felt about watching a lot of the story sequences of Injustice: for example, there's all these Green Lantern Constructs that look cool, but have no appearance or use in game. Why not? Toss them onto alt costumes or something, don't just use them for a once-seen cinematic...

I love how PS1 Soul Blade actually made the characters who appeared in endings (Like Mi Na's father) playable in game, as well as any outfits that appeared in endings (such as Sophitia's bikini clothes). It really made it feel like none of the models were wasted, and that in-game item creation was the first priority, as it should be for fighters.

I think they should be in. I think they whole cast from both games should be in and it shouldnt be too hard. It is only 15 characters including bosses. How many do Tekken, SF, Soul Calibur and MvsC have? They must be pushing between 30-50

I think I would be happy with about 20-25 (not sure if its realistic though.)

All those other games you mention have a lot of iterations on modern hardware, or had games that let them "prototype" the ideas (such as MK9, and TatsVSCapcom for UmVC) first, Arcade releases that allowed extra money to be earned (SFIV), or multiple iterations this gen (Soul Calibur),

KI is closer to BlazBlue, and even BB still had an arcade release, pre-console, to allow time and money for balance updates, and additional characters to be created.

If the idea of KI selling for cheaper than $60 comes through, I'll look at it, personally, like an early arcade release (Much like as with SFIV), that eventually gets the content of a Home console release later on, through it's season pass / additional characters / balances / etc.

I'm quite fine with this, as I feel that's what fighters have ALWAYS been like, ever since consoles started to be able to match the arcade experience. The first release was to get the core gameplay and characters right, in the arcade, and then the home release was the time to add some meat onto the package.

I wouldn't mind seeing a different team with better character designers take on a reboot of that game myself. To Be honest Kakuto Chojin didn't seem that horrible either. Sure it wasn't as good as Dream Factory's other fighter Tobal no 1( now there is a fighting series that needs a reboot), but it was still pretty decent and looked good graphically as well IMO.

I thought Tao Feng and Kakuto Choujin were pretty decent, but Tao was too MK like with it's movesets (damage on characters and the stages were VERY nice, however), and Kakuto just had awkward designs, that felt too derivative, and not unique enough. I love the presence of many of Tobal's systems though (like the Just-frame combos), and I really think the game had some great lighting for the time.

Watching now!

Nice stuff Max! A good start to what's to come!

One thing I liked seeing in this video, that I don't think gets brought up often... is that I quite like the look of the "leveled up" enders in the game. I wish they'd give a few more for something like Humiliations or No Mercy, so that players could choose between crazy ULTRA COMBOOOOOS, or a quick, yet satisfying ending that would also be meaningful.

who was the guy again all the way at the far right? really knew his shit spouting off frames for virtually everything. also, looks like trevor moore from The Whitest Kids You Know

So Ken Lobb speaks on Saturday. Do you think that is when we will get the full Chief Thunder reveal?

http://gematsu.com/2013/07/microsoft-announces-comic-con-2013-schedule

wont they also have playable stations on the floor? i imagine it will be like evo, where glacius was playable and the actual developer panel with insight came later.

thanks for posting though, hope there are some surprises. this is also likely when they'd show their next character teaser.

Dave Verfaille.

I think he's the design director on KI at DH.

He's the guy that usually walks people through the systems in interviews and stuff.

EDIT: This guy.

I played as much as I could on Friday and Saturday of Evo. Lots of new game systems in place, and both Jago and Glacius feel solid. I do think Sabrewulf is underpowered though.

When I expressed to multiple people on the dev team about Sabrewulf being lackluster, they gave me a bunch of ways he's not... but none of them really worked as they described. I actually felt the Glacius/Sabrewulf match-up is 10-0 Glacius.

After going back and forth with the devs, and having most of them continually tell me Sabrewulf wasn't bad (I think KLobb was the only one who agreed that he needs buffs), I finally got Rich to play against one of the other devs in a Glacius/Sabre match. Needless to say, Glacius pretty much owned Sabre.

I expect to see some adjustments to Sabrewulf in the future, but overall I really, really like the game. If you guys have any questions on the new systems or how the characters played at Evo, I'd be happy to answer them.

Something i found in the DH forums:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CxhmpD0Jir8

FUCK! I think i know the guy at 0:14 !!!!!!

Ha! That's me playing in the beginning. I had a 16-game streak the first day, then I realized Sabrewulf was severely underpowered compared to Glacius and Jago. lol

so the sdcc xbox booth opened at 9:30 am today with KI playable. where the hell is my impressions/footage?

I don't think this has been posted yet so...

Full Killer Instinct Panel from EVO 2013 (IGN)

Sorry, no youtube version yet :(

You cannot deny their passion and dedication. Fuck the console wars, this group of developers and producers are exactly what a fighting game fan would want working on one. I mean if the work-in-progress gameplay vids aren't doing it for you just yet, this video will comfort you into knowing that it's in good hands.

While we wait for Max's next clip, let's speculate on price...

Here's what I've been able to put together so far:

- Free Jago-Edition w/ additional characters available as DLC
(Based on the DH team frequently saying things like "If you just want Glacius, just buy Glacius"...it sounds like chars will be sold "à la carte" rather than multple character bundles.)

- Multiple editions of the full game. (via Max's interview with Mike Willette)
This is fairly vague but I think he's likely referring to:
1.) The full, base game at launch. (Day 1 roster only)
2.) The full, base game at launch PLUS Season Pass. (All DLC characters released during the first year(?))
3.) The full, base game at launch PLUS Season Pass PLUS KI-Edition Madcatz TE2.

- No physical disk (at launch...) (via EVO Panel at 1:01:55)
The panel reiterates that KI is meant to be a constantly evolving, digital only release.
Although, Ken later hints that Killer Instinct will get a disk-based version once the "First Season" has run it's course (a year?). They'll likely never confirm this because it could potentially cannibalize their early sales.

- There will be a Collector's Edition bundled with a KI-Themed version of the new MadCatz TE2 Fightstick. (via Gametrailers E3 coverage)
Obviously, this could change but based on the quick reveal at EVO, the stick just looks like the new, standard TE2 with KI art.
Most notably, the joystick is ball-style rather than the bats that were typically on the MK-clone Killer Instinct cabinets.
Likely going to cost at least the $149.99 standard for stick bundles.

- KI pricing will be in-line with XBLA releases. (via Evo Panel at 1:02:41)
Ken (possibly?) suggests that KI -- at least, sans Season Pass -- will not be a $60 title.
I'm thinking $40.00 for the base roster and $20 for the DLC pass seems to fit, given what we've seen other season passes sell for lately.

- Full release and pricing details to be outed at Gamescom. (via Evo Panel at 1:03:04)
Gamescom runs from August 22nd, through to August 25th.

What does DH's focus on digital and a steady stream on new content mean for the launch roster?

Can we reasonably expect there to be more than 8-10 characters? Is this actually a bad thing?

Is the lack of a physical disk a deal-breaker?

So, what do we think?

Hell yeah!! They come as a bunch of dedicated fans doing this out of real passion and that really enjoy it and not only as developers doing something for hire.

Hell, they seem most genuine than Skill and i love that guy for his dedication to the FGC.

Yes.

Ken Lobb is like a 4 year old kid on Xmas anytime he gets to talk about the game and Mike & Dave from DH seem far more "plugged in" to the FGC that I had expected.

It really bothers me that a lot of people are sh*tting on KI based on the E3 trailer and Double Helix.

I seriously want to lock them all in a dark basement and just force-feed them Max's youtube channel and Ken Lobb interviews for a week or so...

@DrDogg

Some people think the combo breakers are too easy to perform (Max mentioned this when referencing Glacius).

Care to comment?

Yeah, I'm wondering if they're going to change the mechanic of it or are going to stick to encouraging players to utilize the counters for them.

This is the first time I've seen Sabrewulf's stage in detail, looks awesome.

Because of how professionals play, I think they should just give different tones for the announcer (especially Combo breakers). Having said, the game looks really fun and nice looking!

It's like a secret society in this thread.

It's a very healthy thread. Practically void of trolls. And always informative. I know. It can be weird for a thread to stay on topic.

So far, I love the gameplay. But maybe I've seen so much of it, I need something fresh. Can't wait for Thunder to show up.

This is so much fun to watch. Some really good fights.
