Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

sabrewulf ultra is lame. it seems stiff and repetitive. The animation for his spin scratch is awful. he doesn't spin property and rolls don't look proper either. I like jago's ultra though for the most part.

I think those are Wulfs cut off arms.

Nah, they'd be metal if they were.

Probably just early/failed prototypes from his arm-growing experiments. Still, awesome.

'Wulf's theme totally reminds me of Dracula's theme in Monster Squad. So g'damn eerie.

Based on the SDCC video with Ken, he said thunder would be playable at gamescon and into PAX with another tease at TGS and then drive that to launch. Problem is launch would be right around the corner so unless they show off multiple characters at once before launch, we're talking two more characters, possibly three and that's it. If you do the 3 (fulgore, cinder, spinal) as mentioned by an earlier article, that leaves no orchid or tj combo. Basically with that schedule, there won't be atleast 2 classic KI characters.

I hope I'm missing something.

what video?

I don't personally trust that article saying Fulgore, Cinder and Spinal are confirmed. It's from a Rare fan site. I've not seen it mentioned any where else. I would not take them as confirmed.

My guess is that at Gamescom we will probably see the big launch trailer detailing the games modes, features and price (like how Capcom do their big trailers for fighting games). This trailer will hopefully show off multiple characters.

I would be happy with 12 characters at launch. I think it's a good starting base for reviving a fighting game. I believe they said that the game only started development around 15 months before E3. I could see a situation where they launch with 8, but when you pay the full price it also includes 'y' amount of up coming characters being released every 'x' weeks.

I truly believe that those expecting the entire roster to return at launch will be severely disappointed. They have mentioned multiple times that they are treating this as a service and will keep updating the game.

My guess is that the game will launch with:
Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, Thunder, B. Orchid, Cinder, Fulgore and a couple of new characters. A feel that those returning characters in my opinion are too big to ignore at launch (may be add Spinal as well).

To be quite honest I was a bit surprised that Thunder was revealed. But I could see him possibly being converted into a Grappler character. They have spoken a lot about how they want to get the traditional fighting game archetypes in the game.
Jago - Balance, Sabre - Rushdown, Glacius - Zoner. Sort of makes sense that Thunder is a grappler to show diversity in their demo builds.

Yeah, I think his Ultra is a bit anticlimactic. I like it at the beginning where Sabrewulf crosses up his opponent multiple times, but the ending is a bit disappointing. Really like Glacius's.

Glacious and Jagos Ultra have those ends that you don't see in normal combat, Sabrewulfs has just his special claw move - would like to see getting it spiced up.

The information from that article is 100% legit. I know the owner and he was at E3 speaking directly to the developers. That isn't to say that plans got changed making what they told him not true anymore.

Here is the article by the way again:

It was on the Gamespot stream. I don't think it's archived yet.

I think 12 characters is just as unlikely as 30 at this point.

8-10 seems realistic, considering everything we've heard so far and the timeline they have to get it done.

I think they'll have the full KI1 roster at launch with maybe a couple characters left out and released as Day 1 DLC / CE bonuses. This gives them a handful of characters to release during the "Season" before they have to start creating from the ground up.

I also think that you're dead-on about Thunder being Grappler'ized. I don't think they'll take it all the way though as a pure, Zangief playstyle doesn't really work with the combo system.

DH seems to like the idea of every character being a Rushdown/??? hybrid.

There is a YouTube mirror of it somewhere. I'll try to find it.

Yeah, I'm not expecting a Gief character. I would not be surprised to see something may be Alex inspired.?

Thunder is def the grappler character. Makes sense that they're showing all types of characters first and the remaining one is grappling. Bank on it!

I could see a grappler in their system where grabs will do a grip of damage by themselves but will also be your openers, linkers in-between doubles, and enders. I guess kinda like King's chain grabs from Tekken but with doubles between everything.

Damn, that makes total sense. I can't believe I didn't put that together.

His cFP even kinda looks like Thunder's headbutt thing, IIRC :P

I'm sure that's exactly what they'll do. Especially considering that DH has said before that Third Strike is a huge inspiration for them.

I have never played a Killer Instinct game but this looks really good for some reason. I haven't played many fighters but I use to love Soul Calibur, Tekken 3 and Mortal Kombat for the Sega Genesis.

Yeah, I could see it being chain grabs, but with the auto-doubles being punches/knees whilst holding the opponent.

Another idea is to change how openers, linkers and Enders work for Thunder. Make the Enders be throws only (Heavy punch/kick special moves). Have the linkers and openers be different attacks (instead of openers, linkers and Enders being the same attack with different effects). That could be Thunder's unique combo mechanic.

Yeah, that was another thing I was thinking is make all enders throws that just do a huge amount of damage, depending on how mobile they make him I could see him being able to do like 40-50% meterless if it is hard to get in with him, where as the other characters usually have to spend a bar to get that sort of damage.

I mentioned this in a smaller KI thread, but didn't get any answers really.. only like 2 guys chirped in.... long story short,

On another site I took a ban bet of 6 months... another guy jumped in and wanted the action so I took it, and now the ban will be a Year for me... Anyhoo...

The bet is, they say that KI is from a sucky team, and DH has never made a good game, so they say after 2 weeks of reviews scores that KI will be 79 or under on Metactritic (no user reviews).

I say... NO! It will be 80 or higher!

What say you people that have either played the game, or know some about it, or are just a fan or foe of the game. Who's going to win this bet? Me or them! I say I am... and every day that passes and new video or info shown from KI just puts it that much higher above 79.

I'm guessing from an 83-85... I could get shocked and see it hit 89! Anyway...

Very interesting what he said about three different types of characters in fighting games

Rush-down
Grappler
Zoning

When I think of the original KI most characters come to mind as Rushdown. I guess they decided to follow the SF rule of thumb for types of characters and had to make at least a few zoning characters so I guess that is why Glacius is who he is. Who is going to grapple?

My money is on tusk

My money is on tusk

My money would have been on Glacius. He got even bulkier in KI2. Bulk him up even more for some puddle teleport bodyslams. I just don't see tusk losing his sword. I am thinking Riptor or a new character.

it's thunder. bank on it.

Damn...

I've been looking at the KI1 roster and giving myself a migraine trying to figure out how to adapt each character into a unique playstyle without completely ruining their original feel.

I don't envy Double Helix at all; this is going to be hard as f*ck to do without pissing people off.

Which reminds me...

Dear DH,

Don't mess with Spinal! Skulls and Skeleport or bust.

Please and thank you :)

I think the instruments change based on the character as well.

Amazing.

I don't like how the announcer shouts, "ULTRAAA COMBOOOO" and then just cuts out.

I prefer the other audio bit with "ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Just needs to be longer like

ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

for 10 seconds when the hit count is 90+ or something extreme.

Watched that Gamestop SDCC video. Ken even makes XB1 match making sound awesome. This dude should be at press conferences for MS.

I love Klobb but, honestly, he's probably a little bit too passionate and outspoken to handle big crowds... :S

If an audience member happened to boo or something (like EVO), I can totally picture him charging into the crowd and dropping a righteous roundhouse followed by a Tiger Fury uppercut.

If anyone here knows hockey, Ken Lobb totally reminds me of Don Cherry.

Is it just me or is Ken Lobb slowly turning into Carter Pewterschmidt?

dying .

I can't really see Chief Thunder being the grappler. I see him as more of an aggressive, rushdown fighter as well as a projectile fighter due to his tomahawks. I think Orchid would more suited as a grappler.
