Is it racist if you aren't attracted to a particular race?

Yo Is This Racist? covered this perfectly last week.

sunshinestatic asked: Is it racist if someone doesn’t find a certain skin color very physically attractive? I mean, it’s not like they hate the actual race. They are just more physically attracted a certain color more than another. So does that really seem racist?

First of all, do you know how fucking stupid you have to be to be “attracted to a certain color"? You ever notice that people who say stupid shit like that are always using it to justify their racist beliefs about what certain races look like, and to reinforce the racist-ass standards of beauty set forth by our shitty culture? You’re not fooling anyone, go hump a piece of construction paper if “color" is what gets you off, you fucking shithead.

I'm not typically attracted to Asian and Black women, though I have plenty of friends of both races. I'm not saying I haven't been attracted to women of those races but in general I'm not, I can't control who I'm generally attracted to.

It's not racist in the sense that you're not making a conscious decision to not be attracted to a certain class of individuals. But it is racist in the sense that people are becoming so conditioned by society and the media that they are incapable of being attracted to individuals based on their skin color. If the culture and society that make something like that possible isn't racist than I don't know what is.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with skin colour in this case. If it does... yes it is racist.

This is an honest question to you and people who share similar beliefs. Does this mean you wouldn't date an Asian/Black/etc. woman? Ever? Just curious.

No one would ever fault someone for having a taste in music, or a taste in food.

But taste in people? Noooo I must be a prejudiced monster :(

No, although it might be if its not just non-attraction but "eugh, all X people are ugly"

Which isn't what I think you're talking about

No/Yes. I'm not even sure how to articulate my response in a way that makes sense.

I don't think its right to point blank say I don't date X race. I understand if there are certain attributes you're attracted to but for most (within my vicinity) its just a point blanket statement that is fueled by preconceived notions about that person because of the stereotypes about their race. I've gotten the "You're cute for a black guy but I don't date black people." So that tells me that I am least attractive but I've been eliminated before they have gotten to know me simply based on race. It makes me laugh really.

I've not met many black women that I was attracted to, in fact I can only think of one, but if that one girl had a personality to match her looks I would've dated her. I'm just not generally attracted to some of the facial features black women are likely to have.

Absolutely.

There's a difference between preference, ie. liking something more than something else, and outright discounting a person because they're of a certain ethnic background.

Not at all. I'd date a girl who was either race. I've been attracted to a few Asian and Black women but for the most part I'm not.

Growing up in Minnesota and in a town with a ninety nine percent white population, a ton of people were just not attracted to people of color. I never really blamed them since they had never been exposed to anything else and it's not like TV helps. Never considered it racist but not being white myself couldn't understand that.

I think its racist.

I can see how someone can have a preference. Like say you like white women and generally arent attracted to black women. But to outright say 'Ive never found a black woman attractive,' I'll be wondering if you dont find them attractive because of their race.

It's about as racist as it is homophobe not to be attracted to men..

I personally am almost never attracted to black and Asian women, at least not at the level that I am to caucasian women. Matter of preference.

Having a preference for white women is not the same thing as only being attracted to white women. Not all black or asian women look or act the same way.

Well, I can probably count the number of black women I've been attracted to in my life on one hand and, for me, to find an asian attractive they have to be a strong 9 or a 10 so maybe I'm short sighted or racist but I don't really think I am, its just preference.

Mixed race is where it's at.

This is really where its at though. Oh my god, I love love love whenver I see a white/asian mix. Had some fun with an italian/japanese girl in high school. Awesome.

Well in my experiences, most people who say this kind of shit are either being straight up racists OR they're fetishisizing someone's race/ethnicity which is really gross.

This is an interesting question.

My answer would be I guess it depends on how you aren't attracted. If you aren't attracted simply because of darker skin or whatever, then...maybe?

On the flip side, is it racist to be MORE attracted to a particular race?

I don't know man.

I think of it like the gay/bi self-test.

Look at a hot naked dude. Do you get aroused? You are gay/bi/bi-curious. If you don't, you're straight; your brain is just not wired to be turned on by a particular physical appearance.

Is it really discriminatory if your dick doesn't respond on its own to another set of particular physical features (darker skin, lighter skin, small breasts, hairy bush, plus sized, etc.)?

Obese women don't turn me on. Does that mean I am discriminatory towards heavy women?

It can be.

There are extremely wide variations across racial groups, so any opinion you might form because of your limited exposure to certain individuals in a particular racial group is really a very broad generalization that likely doesn't apply to all members of if.

I have to imagine that peering out of that sort of bias might foster some racist ideas, or preconceptions, but it is hard to know without an example.

With personal interactions, is always better to deal on the level of individuals, than trying to lump groups into categories like race.

The more you try to treat x race a certain way, the more racist you're probably (unintentionally) being as a result.

This reminds me of when Alexis Texas said she won't fuck black dudes. Like, really? You fuck everyone.

Im not really attracted to black women, being a white guy. Of course there are exceptions. Halle Barry is hot as hell, but she is lighter skin. And im the opposite of racist. A lot of people i know are racist and it upsets me.

There's too much variation within each race for a person to be able to make the blanket statement, "I'm just not attracted to people of [insert race]."

Everything else is just justifying your preconditioning.

There's nothing inherently racist with not finding something attractive, but it would be odd for someone to find every single person of a particular race to be unattractive.

Personally I have absolutely no preference for race. If I'm interested, I'm interested.

Maybe/maybe not, but consider this: Is there absolutely no chance of you ever being attracted to member of x race? Not even a little bit? Not even (super attractive person of said race)?

If the answer is "no chance in heck, not ever", then I say look into why that is, or why you'd think so. In any case, it's not something for someone to casually mention like it's no big deal, because it's not exactly a thing you should be happy/gloating about - it is kind of racist on some level...
I listened to an episode or two about this, yeah.

I guess I'm a monster. You probably need to re-educate my eyes.

Thanks for answering the question (and to the others who answered it). I guess that's fair. I just have difficulty relating because to me, beautiful is beautiful. There are a large number of attractive people of any race and I honestly wouldn't say I prefer one over the other when it comes to looks.

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with skin colour in this case. If it does... yes it is racist.

I was just trying to distinguish between where the source of the conditioning was coming from. I'm assuming this discussion is purely about subconscious/biological reactions because the alternative is so obviously racist it hardly bears mentioning

I don't really have a preference. I guess I'm generally not into black women, but that's not to say I haven't been into one.

I guess if you find yourself attracted to them, but wishing they weren't black/asian/white/etc, then I can see where that might be racist.

If you're attracted to someone, and reject them based on their race, that's racism. If you aren't attracted to a physical characteristic, there's nothing you can do about it, that's just how it is.

I agree with that.
