Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS: Info Collection - Dojo, Mega Man and Trailer! 2014!

I honestly think the word is just a part of Smash's "rich" terminology. :l It doesn't have to be a negative thing though. It's ok to have similar characters. Ken, Ryu, Akuma etc, blah blah blah, it's the small difference that can make a character. And I want a large roster dammit so I don't care if SOME characters are similar are this point.

I never really paid much attention to Mario or competitive Brawl in general, but weren't most of Dr. Mario's tweaks rolled into Mario himself in Brawl?

I'm probably wrong on this either way, I just remember he felt closer to the Dr. than he did his Melee incarnation.

As a Dr. Mario main, I can say no, not at all.

I think the only thing he got from doctor Mario was his f-air(when it doesn't meteor smash) and that was no where near as strong as the doc's version. Heck dare I say brawl Mario was weaker than melee Mario lol.

There are nearly limitless changes that can be made to both Ness and Lucas, seeing as how almost none of their moves reflect the actual abilities they had in their games. And if you think two is too many to represent the Mother series, you are what is wrong with the gaming community.

A completely Poltergust-based Luigi is just plain silly. It may be a starring role for him, but it's just one small series out of his diverse history, play more Mario RPGs please.

Wow I don't know how I missed that Nintendo direct with the extra in depth look at some of the characters. The graphics really look improved especially looking at Bowser.

Every time Ganondorf shows up in one of these games without a completely unique moveset I get angry. The primary villain from the Legend of Zelda series, second only to Mario in Nintendo prominence, is a ripoff of fucking Captain Falcon. It boggles the goddamned mind. There is SO much potential with that character, WASTED!
Totally agree.

Didn't Sakurai give an interview once where he said he couldn't de-clone Ganondorf now, since at this point some non-insignificant number of players expect Ganondorf to play like he does and would be disappointed if it just changed?

Not that I buy that, exactly, but it makes sense I guess.

The next character on blast:

Oh how far you've fallen, Fox. Let's take a look back on better times:

Fox in Melee actually looks like a badass. A character that was once a campy stuffed animal on a box became cool. How did they do this? Again, a lot of it comes down to proportions.

The most obvious difference is his head shape. Melee Fox has a longer snout and it takes up more space on his face. It is very close to what you would expect from a matured canine in real life. New Fox's head is more cartoon inspired. He's got a tiny little snout dropped down to the bottom of his face and a massive cranium. This styling (possibly unbeknownst to the artist) makes him look like a baby/much younger animal. He's goofy looking, not cool or imposing. He also has the build of a young boy, maybe pre-teen age. Melee Fox appears to have a more muscular build, wider shoulders, properly fitted clothing (dem shoes). Compare their head to body ratios. New Fox's head is massive, possibly even bigger than it was in Brawl.

It's unfortunate that Fox will look like this for a second time because of a poor redesign. I mean, just look at the old Fox. Dude's just standing there and he looks like he could reclaim a star system without breaking a sweat. Teenfox looks like he's runnin' off to clown college.

I prefer the Brawl/SSB4 look of Fox save for his doofy clown shoes, not really sure where they're going with that. Star Fox is about goofy cartoon animals and is at its best when it doesn't take itself completely seriously. Melee Fox feels out of character of the who series.

I'm just disappointed that they left Fox more or less unchanged in SSB4 period. I was kind of looking forward to a newly redesigned Fox after what they did in Brawl from Melee, and instead we got the same damn thing.

His head is the only thing that looks weird to me. It's like his forehead is humongous compared to the size of the rest of his face. That and the weird eyebrow things that doesn't mesh well with the dark fur; at least they sorta blended it out in Melee Fox. Oh and his tiny ears in proportion to the rest of his head. And those psycho-eyes thing he has going on.

Yeah I prefer Melee Fox lol.

I don't think Ganondorf keeping the same moveset is a big deal. It fits him pretty well. They could just give him a magic projectile or something and he'd be perfect.

Fox is based off his awful "Command" design, but they should have taken his much superior "Assault" design.

These are the problems that come up when Nintendo forgets to make a new entry in the series :-(

I was really hoping they'd base him off of his SF64 3D design... That was the best Fox IMHO.

Yeah I feel the same way. However, I still prefer the Brawl design over the Melee design.

If alternate costumes are in the game, then maybe Fox and Falco will get their 64 3D designs as alts. I'm expecting the Assault costumes though.

Since 64 they've positioned Fox as the "cool one". His taunt "heh!". I agree it's out of character to the series, but hey, if they're gonna keep running with it he might as well look the part.

He's gonna fit right in with his Google Glasses.
I don't mind the scouter. How will he know Wii Fit Trainers heart rate otherwise?

you know, sometimes i think people take video games far more seriously than i do
I'm not that bad, surely. I'm just comparing one thing to another and giving my opinion. I do have an artistic/3D modeling background so for me it's fun to analyze these differences.

Mutha fucka look like a corgie. He don't even look like a damn fox. He got corgie face man, he went full corgie

Melee fox is terribad.
Corgies <3

Yeah, I actually prefer his Brawl design too. His Melee design was too serious looking.

I was trundling around the ACMI yesterday and they had Smash Bros up on a giant wall projector, and then I was playing Smash 64 at PAX AU this weekend... I dunno man, I like to consider the vibe I get from the game overall rather than focusing down on minutiae. Fair cop if you like it, it's just not my thing.

Perfectly fitting then as I hate him in the game.

I don't like super fast assholes and he looks like the red fox that tried to get my cat.
See. Fox looks like a fox confirmed. :p

That sounds awesome. Unfortunately I don't have many people to play smash bros with nowadays, here's hoping for a great online mode.

Brawl/Command Fox looks like he was made of play-doh to me. I would have taken Assault, Adventures or of course, Melee again. Actually, I thought Melee was the best. I do like N64 fox, but I don't see how it could have worked with the higher poly count.

Yeah, that's why I was kind of hoping they would base his design on SF643D. It's based on the 64 design but reworked a bit to match better visuals.

Adventures looks cartoony

Assault looks terrible

everyone else turned out ok,

Sort of , He looks like bolt.

Nah he looked fine in Assault, just less "detailed" vs Adventures.

With that said, they don't look cartoony because Fox looks taller and less awkward in proportion.

I like that Assault Fox looks like a fox. Definitely my favorite of his recent looks.

I'd prefer they just draw from the original design though.

That actually looks pretty good. Isn't this the SNES Fox (which was ironically redrawn for a cutscene in Command)?

It is, and it makes me wonder why they didn't just use that artstyle for the game. Well, aside from creepy Slippy, weird beak Falco, and saggy Peppy.

Fox, on the other hand, looks amazing.

Um, have you played any of the Zelda games? I don't see how kicking people in the face copying Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch fit him at all. He doesn't even use his sword!
