Yeah, definitely get the RollerCoaster Tycoon games while it is on sale for 11 more hours.

Pick up the Alone in the Dark titles as well.

It's not like they've stopped posting classic games, they still have like 1 a week.
That may be so. But old games have significantly less emphasis on the site. Out of the 10 games in the new releases section only one of them is an old game. Whenever I visit the site the front page is always cluttered with new games being featured.

I'd second the RCT recommendation, at least as far as the first two games go. Never played the third, but I might pick it up just in case. But those first two games are gold. Incredibly addictive, fun games.

Is Total Annihilation also on the way out? Realized I didn't have the Kingdoms expansion, so I picked that one up this morning.

The third one is pretty cool and it has some unique aspects (rides in first person view and custom fireworks shows for example), but the charm of the original is hard to top and the gameplay in the first two is unequalled.

They are all worth checking out for such low prices, honestly.

Trying to start working on my backlog of 100+ games. Played a bit of Tomb Raider 1 earlier, and just played some Nox. Both are quite fun.

Old games? Have an old game:

Tzar: The Burden Of The Crown.

I don't think it has cards.

Holy shit. I've seen this game once before when I was like 5 or 6. It has dragon units right?

Edit: Yep. Wow, never thought I'd see it again. Describing an old 2D RTS where you can build walls and has dragons would give too many answers. But I recognize the map with the water.

Edit #2: Edit, wait, I wasn't 6 years old back in 2000. I was 11. Not the right game.

I read that as "Burden of the Clown".

I'm not sure that bright cyan and magenta is the best color to paint your troops' armor, but I must admit seeing primary colors used like that reminds me a lot of PC games I used to play, so I'm good w/ it. (Not interested in the game, though, not my genre.)

Maybe you are talking about Seven Kingdoms (nothing to do with Game of Thrones stuff).

Lots of solid adventure games, but I wish they could be had cheaper like in one of those summer sale bundles or a "buy x, get y% off" as GOG has done before.

Still, very nice promo.

24 Hour Classic Gem Promo: Krush Kill 'N Destroy Series. 60% off ($2.39) individually, 70% off ($3.58) if you buy them together. The offer lasts until Tuesday, July 23, at 9:59AM GMT.

This continues the GOG trend of doing even more extreme sales on things that were just on sale. These were just in the Atari sale, who knows what the DRM situation is going to be there once the Atari IP is auctioned off. This could be the last time you see them on GOG, or not. If you have any interest in these, I would pick them up now.

Were the KKND games actually good? I remember seeing them in the store when I was in 4th grade, but that's the extent of my knowledge. Which is to say, I have no idea.

Brütal Legend (aka help fund Broken Age) is out on GOG now, sans multiplayer. What I played of the 360 version was fun, but I didn't make it very far before getting distracted and later seeing it release on Steam, so I'd probably just start over on PC when I return to it.

Why did I miss this :(

You know about how it gets more & more rts-ey as you go through right?.

I think I'll wait for a proper sale, I was pretty disappointed with the 360 version.

Brutal Legend starts off as a so-so action game then it suddenly becomes a pretty bad RTS.

GOG,

We give you permission to release Homeworld, Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 on Thursday. Or today. Whenever, really. Just get it done.

Signed,
Gearbox's lawyers

24 Hour Indie Gem Promo: Spiderweb RPG Epics. Three games from 70%-80% off based on how many you buy/own, $7.37 (80% off) for all three. The offer lasts until Thursday, July 25, at 9:59AM GMT.

Geneforge 1-5 - $2.99
Avadon: The Black Fortress - $1.99
Avernum: The Complete Saga - $2.39

* Listed prices here are at the full 80% off.

Unfortunately, these were just in a Humble Weekly Bundle alongside most of the other Spiderweb Games. This is still hundreds of hours of excellent classic isometric style RPGing though. I paid $10 for Geneforge 1-5 alone back when it was first released on Steam and thought it was a great deal.

Hmm, Avernum complete pack for $3 (I have the Geneforge games, and Avadon on Steam, so it would be a 75% discount), or wait for a sale on Escape from the Pit?

Do the original games run well on Windows 7/8?

Not to sound like a broken record, but again Amnesia is one of those games that has been DRM-free in a bundle or two.

I'm glad these games are coming to GOG but I can't help think they would be better off focusing on old classics. Release the games people can't get anywhere else, not the games that have been in multiple cheap sales on Steam, Amazon, etc.

If I wanted Amnesia DRM free, where else can I get it right now besides GOG?

Amazon, for example.

I'm not saying I don't want people to buy it from GOG - I hope they do. But a significant number of people who would want Amnesia DRM-free already have it so through HIB.

Yeah, I see what you are saying. I really don't mind these updates though as it gives me and many other another option to pick something up that might have been missed.

Stuff like this seems to be low effort in between the licensing deals and compatibility work that has to be done on other games.

Speaking of old classics, is there any reason GOG doesn't have the old SSI Gold Box games (the Forgotten Realms Archives, plus the Dragonlance games that started with Champions of Krynn)? I wouldn't think there's a rights issue, after all they do have the Baldur's Gate games, Torment, ToEE, etc. And since they have games as old as Ultima I...I'd really like the "Gold Box" games out there. Is there another service that already has these?

SSI is owned by Ubisoft so you're entering into another licensing/rights mess if you want the Gold Box games, and this time it's for games that are mostly far less in demand. There are some old collections out there that have all the Gold Box games but I don't think they've been reprinted in a looooooooong time.

Thanks...I had thought it was just a simple natter of the D&D license itself. I don't know about these being far less in demand. There's a lot of people who remember these games fondly.

I do actually have the Forgotten Realms Archives - Silver Edition, but it only works on my older desktop, which is having issues these days. That's why I'd love to see this on GOG at some point...

I'm most surprised that Eye of the Beholder hasn't put in an appearance. While, sure, there's not going to be a *massive* audience for, say, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, EoTB was *huge*.

I never knew you could vote for upcoming games you want to see on GOG. I voted for a few so hopefully other platforms catch on to these games as well, barring licensing/IP issues.

They've got some other licensing nightmares worked out, they really should with those as well -- the SSI Gold Box games are really important.

In an optimal world, sure, but given the choice between spending man-hours getting this in place or getting, say, LucasArts, I'd pick the latter every time.

(Of course now that LucasArts is forever impossible, maybe Gold Box would be a decent quarry after all...)
