To promote their new fighting game, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle, CC2 and Bamco have been hosting ASB League, a CPU tournament showing off the entire cast.

Last week group A & B's matches were uploaded to their japanese youtube channel here

and this week they released showed the matches for group C & D

http://youtu.be/n073PSPe3Wk

Next week I assume they will proceed with the last two groups

Group E: Joseph, Akira, Narancia, Hermes, Josuke (Part 8)

Group F: Cars, Kakyoin, Okuyasu, Mista, Diavolo

and then match up the winners the following week.

Making a thread specifically for the tournament videos, instead of bumping an old one

I am super hyped for this game, but these League videos are a little disappointing.

I'm just going to chalk it up to incredibly bad AI. Some of the characters and play styles look like they have a LOT of potential.

And while the fan service alone should satisfy me, I hope this game has some level of depth or high-level play. (Or, at least as much as the original Capcom fighter...)

So how much of this is legit fighting game (old Jojo game) and how much of it is Naruto Ninja Storm "sort of a fighting game"?

Depends on your definition of a "legit fighting game"

I mean it uses traditional fighting game motions, has a bunch of unique characters and no real random bullshit.(some stage hazards look problematic but that's it)

What more do you need for a fighting game to be good and competitive? It's definitely not the Naruto storm games. The developers have said as much in interviews

If you like Jojo and you like fighting games I don't see what's not to like here. No idea why people are being so negative about this lately

it leans more to the latter, favoring fan service over being technical.

So what? When did fighting games have to be "technical" to be fun and competitive?

Considering Saint Seiya is getting an US release to gauge interest, really hoping the same will be done for Jojo as well, especially since we've gotten previous games & the re-release on XBLA/PSN.

I think they do their job. As long as you're watching for glimpses into movesets and potential playstyles rather than how actual matches will look like.(already decided on playing Jolyne from these videos)

I think this set more than any other set has been filled with characters the CPU has no idea how to use. Like Hermes CPU putting stickers on her body only to get knocked down afterwards and doing extra damage to herself.

Or Mista fighting upclose the whole time. Apparently it looks like he can set his stand up in fixed positions on the stage and bounce bullets off them. A playstyle the CPU didn't even scratch the surface of.(makes me think of Venom or Mu(noel bot) in BB)

Well, for me, it's only been the ASB League videos that have been disappointing, and I really do think that's solely due to the AI. They just seem to be doing random shit. Seemed like I saw Kira just turning Killer Queen on and off, or Gyro constantly jumping on his horse when all he needed was chip damage to win. It's just hard to gauge whether or not the gameplay will be fun with actual humans.

But man, some of these characters look really great, and I'd like to better understand how they work. I was wondering how Hermes would play, and it seems like she can place stickers on her limbs to increase her damage output, but I guess there's some sort of future cost when the stickers expire...? (And I'd like to know what the sticker on her head is supposed to do, seems like it's part of a super...)

And then you have Mista who needs to actually manage all six of his Sex Pistols and his ammo, which is awesome. He just looks really fun.

Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 was the last console game I ever imported, and that was an extremely enjoyable fighter in its own right, license be damned. I just want something on that level for this game and I'll be all over it.

EDIT:

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. And in that regard, it's easy to see a lot of potential. The movesets look really original and creative and fit their respective characters fantastically. It's just that anime fighters (including those in CC2's pedigree) aren't known for their depth, and that's been the only thing worrying me about this game (especially with the size of the ridiculously amazing roster). I'd like to see that fear dispelled before I buy in, but I'll probably need to wait for player match videos to reassure myself on that front...

That's why I'm just watching to see moves. Seeing new things characters have that haven't really been shown off in trailers or famitsu articles and kind of think of how they can be applied in a match against a real person.

and I like what I've been seeing. Of the almost double digit amount of zoning characters in the game, every single one has a unique fireball.(some even more) They also have unique properties that seems like each match will be different depending on the character. Johnny fires multiple nails so he ends up eating other characters fireballs in fireball wars. He also has an extremely low to the ground hitbox so projectiles like hol horse and maybe mista's bullets just go over him. Mista also seems to be able to supercharge his bullets with his stand which give them unmatched durability. He constantly trades with Kakyoin in their match and his red bullets go completely through Kakyoin's Emerald Splash everytime. (Which i'm assuming are like Johnny's nails, with each counting as one fireball)

I've just been watching these videos with that kind of active analytic mindset and I've been pretty impressed with the amount of variety I've seen so far. but yeah these are probably really disappointing for people passively watching just to see who wins.

But man, some of these characters look really great, and I'd like to better understand how they work. I was wondering how Hermes would play, and it seems like she can place stickers on her limbs to increase her damage output, but I guess there's some sort of future cost when the stickers expire...?

From what I could tell Hermes can place stickers on her arms and legs, which then causes them to be doubled when she attacks with them with her stand both on and off it seems. Not sure what new properties this gives her moves though (besides damage I guess) but it seems to be core to her playstyle.

The stickers seem to only come off when she's knocked down. and they do recoverable damage to her when that happens.

(And I'd like to know what the sticker on her head is supposed to do, seems like it's part of a super...)

Yeah it's a counter super.

Yeah I was disappointed we didn't get to see more of him

Caesar and Jolyne seem like the strongest characters just going by what we've seen of their moveset so far. There's a couple other good characters, but those two really stand out.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm not a Jojo's fan but I've really wanted to play a 2D game on a 3D field. I think projectiles and zoning can work in 3D. 2D mechanics in 3D could give the genre a shot in the arm. Hopefully Jojo's is good enough to start a trend.

What about all that hype for Giorno and Gold Experience Requiem? :P

Also, WHY DOES KILLER QUEEN NOT HAVE STRAY CAT??? (Or did I just miss it...?)

If his uppercut functions as a DP then Caesar is straight up Sagat.

and yeah I think Jolyne will be really strong. She has everything.(and favorite jojo bias)

The crazy armor on Requiem is cool, but he's gonna get torn up by Caesar and Jolyne zoning.

Requiem has a move that nullifies all projectiles.(aoe dust lookin move) So he could probably blow caesar up.

but 3 second startup is so long though. and if it only has a few hits of armor it's probably real easy to stop.

Giorno seems pretty unimpressive outside of that as well. I have no idea what the tree even does

I don't read/watch Jojo; is Jolyne the one with the airplane? She seems like she might be right up my alley.

Importing this! Need to get through some more JoJo before it comes out though, almost done with Stardust Crusaders. Want to atleast finish up through Stone Ocean before this drops.

wtf is up with all those character stances....

Hands on hips, to hands above head, i knee up with...idk
males characters stand awkwardly and walk like females, things like this stray me away.

sorry jojo fans, just saying

OPTIC BLAST!!!

Characters (and stage!) look amazing, as always.

But yeah, getting close to release and I'm getting a little nervous. IMO, clearly Funny Valentine and Diego Brando need to be in the game. We also need at least one or two more for Stone Ocean, but I'm hoping for all three of the obvious ones (Foo Fighters, Annasui, and Weather Report).

Honestly, I'd be satisfied at that point. (Actually, more than satisfied, so many more characters got in than I thought would.) The other parts have plenty of representation, but 6 and 7 and lacking.

I'm guessing that leaked roster might be wrong, and it just got lucky with some of the predictions? There's no way we're getting all of those Part 5 characters (although I could see another villain like Risotto or Cioccolata to occupy an Akira-esque position...).

Apart from Vanilla Ice and the extra part 5 dudes (especially Fugo, he was written out of the manga for being too powerful), the leaked list seems great, with the only omissions that bug me being Stroheim and Old Joseph.

Also, this game's music is really good. Hermes, Joseph, Narancia, Gappy, Bruno, Hol Horse, Johnny, and Avdol all have great themes, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Can't wait for the OST.

All I'm hoping for at this point is Valentine and like 2 part 6 protagonists.

but yeah unless there are some announcements in the next week or two, its not looking good for the rest of that list at all. It always kinda seemed too good to be true though

Don't the Naruto games have unannounced secret characters? I don't see why this game couldn't have the same considering Part 4 has more representatives than Part 5, the 2nd most popular part. If Akira can get in certainly Cioccolata should get a pass.

I expect Diego, Valentine, F.F., Annasui, and one or two more Part 5 reps.

Part 5 is the favorite part of CC2's president. According to the leaked list, which I'm clinging onto with my life right now, part 5 has the most characters out of all parts. Diego, Valentine, FF, and Annasui are all part of that list. But what I really want is Iggy, that doge is my SQUEEZE

Yeah, edited my post. I should really learn the rules around here, thanks for letting me know. All I'm waiting for is Diego and ff

HA! I KNEW IT! I TOLD YOU GUYS KAWAJIRA KIRA WAS IN THE GAME!
Oh and if it's a scan delte soon amigo, they're not allowed on GAF ;)

Rofl

you did

Didn't expect this even after Vamp Dio

I guess this is probably it though with all the final bosses finally announced and the Final PV coming out in a week.

Goddamn spoiler list. I doubted you but you made a believer out of me and now I'm paying for it in disappointment

Can. Not. Wait. To see Valentine in action. If the VA fucks up Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap I'm cancelling my preorder
