Clearly only the best race is allowed to tame the mighty Sleipnir.

So true. Only the Lalafell are cunning enough to find a way to ride that horse. If they ever add in that mount for players, it really should be lalafell-only. ;)

----

@Scholar pictures - looks really cool. Can't wait to try out that healer. I really hope they give us full control over what abilities the fairy will use and doesn't make it automated or just lets us change stances (like the chocobo companions). Pleaseeee do this right, SE.

Finally able to bench and set up my character for launch.

She's pretty short for a shorty. As for my bench:

Aww, she's really cute. Good job!

One simple question.
The "early acess" that comes with the preorder with MOG CAP and CAIT SITH DOLL MINION is the phase 4 beta?
If i'm in the beta now, do i need the early access???

I wish Sleipnir has the correct number of legs.

Also, I like it in FFXI when Odin shows up they're like "There are reports of a giant man running around on some monster called 'a horse.'"
They've stated a couple of times that horses are a known thing, but they're barely around because nobody use them, as chocobos are much more adapted to Eorzea and all around work better... so I guess lore wise Odin is the one with a gimp mount, lol.

My final batch of characters (made for fun, open for grabs):

If someone likes some of my designs I can share it.

Very nice designs, I like the red head in particular :)

You can use the controller (urgh).

It also supports wired/wireless keyboards.

No idea on voice.

It also supports wireless mice and you can click on the interface just like on pc, which is amazing and the only game on ps3 that allows you to do that, as far as I know.

Think I'll pick one of the servers that has where everyone starts fresh, seems like the best experience.

Also, does Open Beta mean you can make characters on the fresh server? Or just on previous servers with your old character? Seems like it'd be kind of weird to have a fresh server with people playing the game really early before release date.

I second this question. Didn't even know there were going to be fresh start servers.

Yeah, there are and you can start on them for Phase 4.

Phase 4 is pretty much the actual start of A Realm Reborn's life; unless shit hits the fan and they have to wipe, everything except PVP and housing stuff will carry over to the "official" release. The only real catch is that you'll miss out on the Early Access period between Phase 4 and Aug 27th if you don't preorder at the correct retailers or weren't qualified for the Legacy program.

Otherwise, if you want to lock in a place in the new economies, have your Monsters and poop socks ready for the Live Letter on the 8th in case they turn on the servers right after.

Please halp with more kitty design, GAF!

I've settled on Moon kitty, but I've been experimenting with hairstyles,

Hairstyle 1:

Hairstyle 2:

Honestly, I'm leaning towards hairstyle 1 even though it's so common. It just looks better on my kitty.

#1 was by far the most common one in FFXI, least as of 2008, which was the last time they did race and facial stats in their annual census.

However, in XIV at least there are dozens of colors, where in FFXI it was white or red.

This hair certainly seemed very popular looking around during the betas.

Can someone please repost the algorithm for choosing the right digital/physical standard/deluxe edition that I saw on this thread some weeks ago? I can't find it anymore :(

The amusing thing is, if you look at the history of the FInal Fantasy series, horses only ever show up as horrible man-eating monsters. They appear all the time, but only as enemies. You have those horse monsters from FF VIII that throw their horns like boomerangs, the ones from FF XII from the plains and underground with the head-tentacles, and demon horses in FF III. They were found as monsters in the area surrounding the first town in FF 1. Final Fantasy horses are mean. So in most Final Fantasy games horses are probably sen as vicious hellspawn.

The only good ones are Sleipnir and Ixion, and they still count as summoned monsters. An Ixion Primal would be cool to see, thinking about it.

I got some questions. I don't know if this has been ask before.

This link: Playing multiple characters at the same time

Does this mean I only need 1 subscription or multiple? And I'm registering each version (PC + PS3) on separate service accounts which mean the account service with pc registration code can only be play on PC and vice versa for the PS3 version?

Thats correct, but because its on a seperate service account you need to pay the sub twice to play multiple characters at the same time. If you don't pay the sub then the account is suspended after the initial trial time. Also correct that PS3 code is strictly for playing on PS3s and PC code for PCs.

Thanks, I guess I won't be playing with my sister. Guess we'll be sharing an account with multiple characters.

Only 1 subscription on PC. They basically ask you to buy several copies of the game to play with one more character. Basically register several copies (in the same account).

I'm not sure about the second one, even if you register the PS3 version under a diffrent account, you should be able to log on PS3 with the PC account...I think.

Wait, you can play multiple characters at the same time (e.g multiboxing) with just 1 subscription?

EDIT: after some research apparently not, still 2 subs for 2 characters at the same time.

GPU is underpowered, but if everything else is in good working order it's a decent rig. Especially if it has a readily accessible pcie slot for.a new GPU.

You can build a better one for about the same price. The GPU alone isn't really worth it.

Why did you do that

Because there was a GMG sale and I was like 'oooohhh better act fast' and completely forgot that I didn't have to re-buy the game.

Oh well. It's the CE so at least I'll get DAT CAIT SITH HAT.

Edit: Wait. I may have fucked myself. What is this shit about not being able to register a PC CE key overtop my existing Windows account?

for 650$ you can get a better system, seen this thread a couple of days ago on reddit, heres a link to the build/discussion http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1jddnh/the_ffxivarr_machine/

Nope you can't, need PS3 version to get Preorder bonuses on same account, need digital upgrade/PS3 version to get CE items on old 1.0 account. Ask for a refund before its too late.

Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh. Prices for PS3 CE are ridiculous.

How does the job and class work? I namely played FFXI 10 years ago and I loved playing as a bard. How does it work in FFXIV to be a bard. Are you a fullfledge bard instead of a bard/archer when you have got the job as a bard? You just run around and play some tunes on your flute or harp, instead of shooting arrows at enemies? Do you have to start over as a bard at lvl 1 or are you at level 30?

Bard in ARR Is a damage dealing job with situational aura buffs (songs). It is a full-fledged bard in accordance with the real-life-influenced lore of the game described by YoshiP (I wish I had the link on hand but I don't). When you unlock bard as an archer, your bard level will be equal to your archer level so the lowest level a bard could be is 30. Your bard levels always equal your archer levels.

It's a lot of fun.

It's also nothing like bard in XI and never will be, thank the maker.

A job modifies the base class. When you equip a Job's Soul Crystal, you change from a level 30 Gladiator into a level 30 Paladin, for example. You lose access to some of the base class's abilities and options, and gain access to the Job's unique abilities. Leveling up one will level up the other.

As such, the Jobs are still built on the same basic framework of abilities as the base class.

FF XIV Bards do shoot arrows as an archer does in addition to their bardic abilities. Their signature weapon is some kind of bow-harp combo.

I'm pretty interested in the game after looking through some videos. If I download the beta client now, would I need to re-download the game when it releases? I'm really excited to try out the beta in the upcoming weeks.

So correct me if I am wrong here. A Bard in FFXIV shoots arrows at enemies and also play songs in between?
