3DS Streetpass Experiences

I had no idea the range was (potentially) that wide. I suppose having my 3DS in a case inside my bag might reduce it a bit.

Yep, I street pass all the time while playing a game. I think closing the 3DS is a myth. I'm in NYC, so I get a good amount of passes daily.

You do not send or receive passes in DS mode or playing Ambassador games, I believe. But VC, 3DS downloadables, and 3DS retail all let you streetpass while active.

It depends on the game. Some particularly intensive games like Resident Evil: Revelaitons seem to shut off the 3DS's networking functions when it isn't explicitly using them. I had to close the unit or back out to the home menu to Streetpass while playing that.

So... Otakon streetpass.

Yep. Got about half of the pink pieces to the five new puzzles (and completed Skyward Sword!) over the weekend, should be able to finish it all by this time next week.

Saturday was a great day for Streetpassing. There was a gaming tournament event at my town so I got 35 tags. Managed to advance a lot in the new games, and got three purple pieces (Divas, Zelda:SS and M&L:DT). What sucked was this one guy that had two purple pieces for the Divas puzzle and one for Xenoblade, but no one else had them. Hope I run into this guy again some day.

So I ran some tests with my Japanese 3DS at a recent comic-con and I noticed that it doesn't seem to award them my Japan region. ;_; I thought I could help the international collecters a bit but it looks like it doesn't register.

At least they got to see my Professor Layton x Ace Attorney game title!

Oh and that comic-con allowed to finish almost all of my pink puzzle piece collections, I only have a few more left.

Haha, I hate when that happens too.

I'll go to a local meet up and meet 30-50 people and then I suddenly meet this one person on the streets a few hours afterwards who has tons of unique pinks.

Also, I'm going to Toronto soon and I'm wondering where the best places to get a streetpass. I'll be staying downtown and I assume places like Eaton Centre will be good for it. Any other places, Toronto GAF?

Yea, Eaton Centre would be the best place. You can just walk around downtown and get some too.

two guys just moved to my apartment building and both of them have 3DS's...
I getting 2 streetpass a day at minimum now and I think I'm finally beating Find Me 2 =P

Too bad it's a black shirt and a purple shirt... both are fucking useless on Mii Force, haha...

So there are a few doctors and a dentist in my building, and lately there's been a kid coming in for something. I've Streetpassed him three times now. Nothing really to gain from him but each time his most recent software was the Lego LotR demo. His mom sure is getting a lot of mileage out of that 3DS purchase, not having to actually buy any games!

Strange, my Japanese region (Niigata) passes just fine to everyone I meet. I have Hokkaido filled thanks to another friend as well.

Tell them to change their shirt color via personal message. See how that goes.

Sounds good. Now with the Streetpass Relay active, I'm sure I'll get even more passes. I've never had a Canadian streetpass tag so I'm excited to add it to my list.

I only got to be at Quakecon for an hour on Friday and two on Saturday, but that was enough to get twenty pink pieces from the five new puzzles.

JP 3DS just received a new puzzle. I don't see anything new on my NA 3DS.

Huh. Didn't think it was up yet, but literally just got the notification after posting here...

Yeah 3DS range is big. Managed to snag some while in commute which has nobody but me.

Speaking of which, how come some monarchs give me units, while some don't?

I did mine manually this morning but if you don't do you get a notification to tell you to update? This relay thing working is reliant on a large number of people doing it after all, not sure how many normal 3DS owners actually do that based on the number of normal people I see with iPhones and an App Store icon advising there are dozens of updates available.

I got a notification that an update was available when I was at a Nintendo Zone.

There are bound to be millions of people that don't even know what Streetpass is or have never even used online.

Ordinary hotspot here. No update spotpass (I waited for it before doing a manual update).

Looks like tomorrow will be my first tour (I expect 0 passes).

2 months with 3ds and only one street pass

In Brazil if we play our 3ds on the bus or just take it out of the pocket on the streets...we won't have a 3ds anymore. Need to keep it hidden, keep it safe.

Some things

Went to Scarborough Ribfest this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Got about 20-25 streetpasses in all.

Having two 3DSs (mine and my Fiancee's) can be weird as she got somewhere close to 30-40 in the same time! Anyone know if the XL has a bigger range or something?

Nintendo Zone relay seems to take a while. I took both of our 3DSs to a McDonalds last night and we appeared to be the first two at that location as I got hers and she got nobody. But it was a good 10-20 mins before the streetpass showed up (possibly because it had to upload hers first?)

I have three workmates with 3DS's and we all get streetpasses off each other every day. But I stopped getting Mii Plaza from one of them. I don't understand why... I still get Animal Crossing data from him every day, but he just doesn't show up in the plaza anymore. Any ideas?

His Plaza is full

Probably one of these:

1) He has a full queue of 10 Miis on the Plaza and hasn't checked.

2) He took the Plaza out of the 12 game limit to receive StreetPass.

Ah. His plaza being full will make him stop showing up on mine, huh? That's definitely it, then. He doesn't care about the plaza. Cool, I'll just nudge him to open it.

From initial testing, it seems the StreetPass relay does work with "fake" Nintendo Zone APs. My co-worker just streetpassed my Mac-mini. Will perform more tests over the day.

You mean by changing your SSID to "Bestbuy" or "attwifi" or whatever?

I'm trying to imagine what exactly is going on to get this to work. So when the 3DS finds a wifi hotspot while sleeping it probably exchanges StreetPass info with Nintendo, and it gets logged along with the IP of the access point, I guess? Then when another 3DS comes by from the same IP, it downloads the previous 3DS' StreetPass info while uploading its own.

My question is what happens to the first 3DS to pass a specific hotspot (real or fake). Does Ninty have some generic profile set up for this?

My guess is the 3DS sends the info to the Nintendo server. The Nintendo server looks at the incoming IP (or something "unique") and makes a directory based on it (if it already exists it swaps that data in there).

Edit: Ah I missunderstood the question.

first person gets nothing.
Second person gets first person
etc.

I had two 3dses that were 1st and 2nd to mcdonalds

Is streetpass relay as "instant" as normal streetpass or am I going to have to hang around McDonalds for a while?
I really hope this ups my streetpass count a little. I live in a small town and I only sp with family that I see everyday and Gamestop. Randoms are so rare for me. If I can scrape up 1 or 2 by visiting McDonalds now and then, Im going to do it.

Well it just seems like the difference between exchanging information with Nintendo's servers from the free wifi hotspot versus exchanging information with a nearby 3DS. It probably won't take too much longer (maybe faster, even) unless they're getting hammered or the network is slow or something.

I'm positive I got one walking past Argos which is one of my Nintendo Zones apparently on the way home tonight so it's probably just as fast, likely even faster than between two consoles.

Even more incredibly I StreetPassed my first English person today. I live in Scotland and every single day get a train that services two large airports and yet this somehow took eight months to happen. Step up your game travellers.

From my experience Northern Ireland is the hard one to get to complete the UK...(none yet)

I had Streetpass mansion troll me. Got a room set up which would have gotten golden chests were it not for:
A) A green orb taking up one potential space
B) A Mii taking up another potential space (to give me a measly 10 gems...)

I have a feeling my plans in floor 8 are going to have to be scrapped to find the stairs pretty shortly...

I walked by both McDonalds and Starbucks (which are next to each other). Got close and... nothing. Meaning I was probably the first person to bring an updated 3DS to those spots. I'll try again another time.

I drove past a supposed relay station about an hour ago and got nothing
the Nintendo zone stuff pop'ed up though maybe it's not live until after tomorrow's direct?

that makes sense, kinda sucks they don't have a nintendo employee's Mii or something for those of us that are first to pass it to give us an indication that it's up and working

Yeah, I was just about to post something like that.

They could have at least automatically have sent-out a rabbit with a tablet to explain the process.

Do you have to wait to construct the room with one piece, or do you have similar chances getting good stuff expanding an existing room?
Construct the room. Tip. Start with an outline. This is an example.

It should go wooden, iron, bronze, silver, gold onwards (these floors are a bit conjested for me to set up such things plus lack of regular Miis means I don't have a good consistency of colour and large piece selection, I've only been up to silver)

I think expanding just starts again from wooden.

Don't be greedy and understand if you need to find the stairs, either find them or dismiss loads of miis (if you set up a floor of these without the stairs found...)

im in tokyo now and im getting 30+streetpasses a day, probably more if i clear the 10 mii queue more often

gonna break the 1000 mii mark today

nintendo really needs to update the 10 mii queue its really annoying

5 Streetpasses today so far. In a good day I would average 1 or 2. The relay works!

Quick question, I use the time change trick in order to get more coins after 1000 steps; is that going to screw me up when it comes to getting street past tags in any way?
