I really hate the NCAA, let Johnny cook
him and the infinite number of college athletes that make money for the NCAA is crazy.
Except, they had plenty of exposure.

Just as a sample. And if you want to leverage some metric for what constitutes "exposure" we can create a giant list of players who went on to be stars who were given insane amounts of exposure.

The NCAA really doesn't get a lot from football. They make their money during March Madness as they actually run the tournament, etc. Outside of football and basketball, there really isn't money to be made in general - so the other sports probably should be thanking the NCAA... and title IX.
The BCS and bowl system is what gets the football money by running their own postseason format.
We should compare the exposure of someone like Matt Barkley to Mike Glennon. Except it would make your argument look silly.
Except you clearly don't understand my argument, based on this. Not sure what the issue is, so let me try again.
Matt Barkley would've made more money off his celebrity than Mike Glennon. But that does not mean that Glennon would not have made any money off his talents. Barkley already went to a bigger school. This is not something that can be fixed - some schools are bigger than others. That does not mean that the smaller schools do not have their fans who would be willing to pay for memorabilia or local appearances.
I never said they couldn't make anything.
I said the larger , more exposed schools would have even larger recruiting advantage, which they would.
meanwhile the NCAA officials are living large in part pimping his likeness and fame. fair trade uh.
Except there are players that break through from smaller schools all the time. I'm still not convinced this is an argument. The system as is clearly fucked up and obviously the schools paying the players would be exactly what you're talking about. Seems that putting the opportunity solely on the player to leverage his own name as he seems fit is the best solution.
The thing is that basically any player of minor note would heavily benefit from being on a team in the SEC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc. Just by being associated with those colleges they could use their own name to make tons of pocket money.
It definitely would tilt the scales even more toward the larger schools in recruiting. That's not really debatable.

Problem is most AD run at a loss so once you are paying players good bye to Olympic sports. Also, these kids are getting a free education, food, boarding and coaching which can be worth 60-70k a year. I don't feel to bad for them.
Also, Manziel was allowed to trademark Johnny Football and make money off of that I believe

This is indeed the reason.
People seem to want college football to basically pro football for some reason, however.
If we start giving college players money can we give Reggie Bush his Heisman back?
Why do we have to fund Olympic sports by not paying college athletes?Problem is most AD run at a loss so once you are paying players good bye to Olympic sports. Also, these kids are getting a free education, food, boarding and coaching which can be worth 60-70k a year. I don't feel to bad for them.
- It's an amateur game filled with 18-22 year olds. Of course the level of play will be different vs. professionals in their field. Why not? It already is pro football in all the worst ways, but none of the good ways.
- Shit level of football even compared to pre season.
- NCAA Greed makes the worst NFL owners look like Saints.
- A hilarious way of determining who fights for the title.fr
I read the original ESPN story and was laughing when it said he did it in a room filled with people. Dude is like, "Fuck it, I won the Heisman. Kick me out, I'll still go pro." Probably won't amount to anything, but TAMU is basically a cult.. he is set for life regardless.

The NCAA and Manzeil are perfect for one another. It's a competition of who can be more stupid and egotistical out of the two.
1. Manziel can't make a dime off Johnny Football right now. He can't make a dime off anything, actually. There was a guy who got in hot water with the NCAA for posting a rap video on Youtube with advertisements.
2. $70k a year is a 95% discount for a guy like Manziel. Texas A&M has made millions of dollars selling him out and he gets none of it. Would you sell your services to an organization that is paying you 5% of what you could make?
3. $70k a year could be a decent amount of money for someone, though... but he or she is not allowed to negotiate for it. That's the screwed up part. They can't negotiate. How would you feel if you could only take your skills to one job that paid you one rate you had no say in?
4. Olympic sports are nice but I'm not about to say that this exploitation is okay because we have swim and track programs.
This country has lost its fucking mind with athlete and celebrity worship. I cannot believe that people are for college athletes getting paid. Ridiculous. It's almost like people have forgotten what universities are and where the priorities should be.
A single school can decide not to pay athletes, when practically all of them do that it's textbook collusion.Dont like how the NCAA operates? Dont play in it, they can go play football in other places and skip college and get paid.
Football is popular and it makes a shitton of money, you really don't think the athletes should be compensated? This country has lost its fucking mind with athlete and celebrity worship. Also, you really underplay the role of colleges in the future earning opportunities of football players.

Is it better for that money to go people who do not play the game (which can be quite dangerous)?
He hasn't been out of High School 3 years yet. Would have to wait till next summer to get into the NFL. That's the NFL's rule.

Dude, who do you think you're talking to?! Of course I am aware of that. He could still play CFL or something for a year or just work out independently and start cashing in once he's ineligible. He clearly has checked out.
The NHL and NBA players play in the olympics. They don't play for free.
I think the rules are fucked up, that's the point.Im not underplaying it, if you want to play in the NFL college football is pretty much a must. So its either play by these rules, go play in Europe/Canada, or go get a normal job.
I think the rules are fucked up, that's the point.
It's fine to argue that the rules are fine, but you should defend them rather than saying "well those are the rules".
I mean shit, at some point not letting black people play were "those are the rules".
