Aren't you the guy who still listens to Sum 41?

I don't understand how strongly opinionated both sides of this are. I think DG are pretty great, but I get that they're super abrasive and not for everyone.

I on the other hand, am not a big fan of them. I think their abrasiveness takes away my enjoyment. But I can see their appeal. Their aggressiveness and in your face manner and such.

See? We're having a rational discussion about music without acting like hyperbolic closed minded shit flingers.

Death Grips? Ha! My music tastes are far too advanced for this. I'll have you know I listen to the likes of Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, and Keith Urban. Yeah, I've been called a hipster a few times... needless to say, this Mr. Grips really needs to learn a thing or two about rapping. His flow is abysmal, and I can't even understand most of what he's saying (which is absolutely vital to any song). Furthermore, his music sounds like a shitty ripoff of Kanye West's groundbreaking album, Yeezus. I don't understand how you guys can like this "band". They're not doing anything new, they're just screaming as loud as they can.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to listening to true hip hop, you know, like Drake, Eminem, and Tyler the Debator.

Good day to you, sir.

What is going on

At any rate I like Death Grips. Ain't for everyone as you can see. Why can't we all be friends

I hadn't heard of this band until today. I really like what I've heard of The Money Store so far, "The Fever (Aye Aye)" being a highlight.

The signature did it for me.

This had nothing to do with age. And what's wrong with spending time discovering new music? I hope I never stop seeking out fresh art and culture. You sound bitter, man.

Haha, I'm not bitter at all. That's just how a saw the thread.

I can't stop laughing at the naruto quote

So they cancelled more tour dates, including the Boston and NYC shows. And the drum kit that was destroyed was a child's kit that the tour manager set up.

I guess it's a good thing that people like what they do musically, because that's all they'll have left when they lose representation, can't get tour bookings, ruin fans' goodwill, etc.

It's like Death Grips are so punk that they don't care about Death Grips.

I think they really just want to keep making music until they feel like they can't progress and then stop.

They already cancelled one tour just to work on an album (No Love Deep Web)

Anybody who knows anything about the band though expects things like this. DG live, is like 60% music, 40% social experiment. MC Ride is pretty new to the game, but Zach Hill will NEVER have a shortage of people who will show up just on the promised possibility that he might be there. The man is a monster. I was lucky enough to see the 4 piece "Devil isn't Red" Hella open up for The Mars Volta in 2005, and have been obsessed with Zach Hill ever since.

And even if Death Grips somehow goes down the drain (never gonna happen), Zach Hill is still signed to Sargent House as a solo artist and with Hella, who haven't toured in ages, not to mention Marnie Stern and a slew of other projects. He will never run out of financial options. He is one of those very few "drum prodigies" who isn't classically trained, yet can play such awe inducing sets that even well established technical guys like Thomas Pridgen flip their shit about it. We call it "X-games drumming" or "trap-kit heroics"

This is fucking nutttttttts. I love that they don't only not give a fuck, they are purposely out to make even their biggest fans angry as fuck.

If Kanye tweeted about them, they must be good right? This is the evolution of 90s backpack rap. Southerners killed off hip-hop, hipsters are nailing the coffin shut. Good for them.

Ehhh using a fan's suicide note as a backdrop is pretty fucking abhorrent and just wrong. Can't speak to their music as I've never heard them.

Zach Hill: Throughout the past year, there's been a lot of disenchantment within our camp, just feeling let down by ourselves and everybody around us. I had been having conversations with my younger brother, who is 26. He's a major gamer; he runs [Dungeons & Dragons] at conventions and has been on 4chan since he was 14. So he's talking philosophies, strategies, different decks you use in Magic: The Gathering, and we started talking about the control deck. I'd been reading about parallel things that were totally separate from gaming: the idea of using peoples' powers against them. I mean, it's an insane notion [laughs]: "control decks" in real life. But I've always been very interested in magic-- more psychologically, like magical thinking.

Anyway, when we moved out of where we recorded NO LOVE, we went to Los Angeles to force meetings [with Epic] and force people to listen to the record. We were walking down Sunset, looking for a place to stay, and it clicked. I'm familiar with Chateau Marmont and what it represents historically. I started thinking about everything that had been developing over the course of the whole year, all these conversations with my brother, my own thinking. [Stefan and I] started talking about the control deck and formulated these ideas on the pavement. We basically moved in there for two months to mirror the people we were working with and learn about that culture, which was somewhat in control of our destiny at that point.

As for that Detroit show, it was staged at the Magic Stick, a venue connected to the storied Majestic Theater. "I think that's where Houdini did his last performance," Hill adds casually, foreshadowing a fondness for magical thinking (and Magic: The Gathering cards), not to mention his band's tendency to slip out of thorny situations with its legend more than intact. Talking with Hill is exciting-- he's a genuine free thinker, someone who can't help but question any and all ideas of normalcy. He might not have the answers, but he's having a hell of a time trying to put everything together. In conversation, Burnett isn't quite as effusive. "I never talk about my art, I just put it out," he told me during a brief chat. "I have never had the desire to explain my actions."
.

I must be getting old because the music posted in this thread is fucking garbage. It's like Brokencyde with better beats, but its still terrible.

I was lucky enough to catch him touring with Team Sleep back in 2001 and have had the pleasure of seeing him live at least 10 times with various groups since then. No matter how many times I've seen him, each show is still mind blowing. I've come to realize that it's an absolute mistake to miss out on any of his shows these days. There's no way he'll be able to keep up what he does now for many more years. No doubt he'll still be amazing though as long as he plays music.

Seriously, watching that guy drum is awful. He can't even stay in time because he's too busy doing extremely sloppy fills, and it has nothing to do with speed because I know drummers who are faster, more technical, more musical, and actually stay in time. I'm really can't tell if this is a joke band or not.

sounds like someone hasn't heard ill mind 5

he totally makes fun of Lil Wayne too, our savior!

Like this post if you're a fan of REAL hip hop like nas, common, rakim, mos def, talib kweli, de la soul, cunninglynguists, and wu-tang clan~

Man I love the song "Beware". How can you not get goosebumps right when the guitar and "yeah!" kicks in. How can you not turn up your volume nob when that fucking wave of sonic bliss comes in, disintegrating your body and soul each time?

I liked the post, but when I scrolled down and found the signature, lol, wow. Great post.

The music sounds vaguely interesting, but I don't like the guy's vocal at all. But then, I've never really liked much hip hop.

Yup, exactly what happened. Came in with an open mind, didn't really dig it, get called an uncultured simpleton. The irony is I know more about musical composition than anyone who would consider this ground breaking or whatever fucking buzzwords kids are using these days. This is like 2 notches higher than dubstep, seriously, enjoy your dreck.

Seriously, get over yourself. You don't need a fucking music degree to like music.

Am I the only one who clicked on the link, hadn't heard of the band before, and actually thought, "huh, this is kind of neat"? I kind of feel like I am based on the reactions in this thread.
