If we had a real Xbox One AMA

Those are good questions OP.

A lot more useful than knowing if my avatar is in HD.

But far LESS useful than knowing if you can earn achievements twice playing the same game on both platforms... amirite?

Oh Microsoft... why can't you just use things the way they're intended to be used? Oh, you like Java... here, have our J++. Oh you like Flash... here, have our Silverlight. Oh, you like Google... here, have out Bing. Oh, you like Reddit's AMAs... here, have these answers to preselected questions virtually nobody's asking that we're going to attach the label "AMA" to, making it seem like someone, somewhere got unfettered access to ASK ME (YOU) ANYTHING and chose those retarded questions as the questions they would ask you if they could truly ask you ANYTHING... smh

1. Will there be a way to turn off specific friend notifications? ie. Online, Started playing a game, sent you a message, etc.

2. Will the Beacons be removed?

3. Will there be a way to prevent friend request other than blocking everyone individually? This could get very annoying for popular people with a 1000+ friend limit.

4. Will the new "Challenges" be separate from the achievements similar to the Awards now? Or will they be integrated into the achievement list?

5. What is the current max gamerscore for Xbox One games? Is there a max?

All of the OP questions shit all over what we got. Link phishing IGN for the loss.

Hopefully some of those get answered over time and before launch.

When you decided to respond to customer complaints about restrictions on retail discs (inability to directly resell, internet connection required), you also removed features related to non-disc downloaded game sales, such reselling these games through authorized partners and family sharing. Why couldn't these features have been preserved for downloaded purchases?

Microsoft, why do you continue to insult our intelligence with meaningless buzzwords and misdirection?

heh

Do you plan on bringing back the online sharing/all digital approach that you dropped as an optional feature?
Are you planning on releasing an all digital version of the One without a physical drive?

God thread btw

Mostly everything

So you're telling me I did something right.

Holy shit I am working alone in a room with a glass door, and everyone is staring at me wondering why is he laughing so?

- Will the offer for 2 free games every month continue in XBOX360 after the launch of XBOX one? Will it continue on xbox one as well?

- How about the rewards services? Will it still work for Xbox 360? is the service goin to continue?

When will MS points switch to real currency and can you use that currency to purchase physical games through the MS store?

Will I get a full refund (console, games and accesoires) after Microsoft decides the draconian DRM will be part of a mandatory update?

Do you intend to return to your original launch plans once the systems has sold 10 million or more units?

My question:

Can you clarify the multitasking capabilities of the system? Can the Xbox One run 2 games at the same time? Can I play Forza 5 and switch instantly to Ryse and then back to Forza 5 instantly?

I got a mail from Xbox Rewards shortly after E3 saying that they were depositing my remaining MS Points on August 7 and then changing to real currency, haven't connected yet, but should have already changed to real currency, since on September 1st they were announcing the new Xbox Rewards...

Or something like that...

No

Some of these questions (which are good questions) were answered in what was basically a Reddit AMA back at E3 when all the shit was going down. Major Nelson was the one answering them and he got visibly frustrated over some of the legit questions. Going so far as to say that problems with the cloud going down in the future and you losing your digital games is something "we certainly would not do, that's not the way the system is designed, it's designed for flexibility."

I'm interested in the specific hardware questions like what their solution is for supporting the One controller on the PC, but a lot of the software questions it seems like no one is answering. Sony hasn't given the kind of details I want either. Specifics just don't seem to be a big thing this generation when it comes to the UI. How much you can upload to twitch, what exactly the friends list is going to look like, how customization the front end is etc are probably late to get polished and they aren't going to show them til way late.

Excellent thread and excellent questions. If only IGN came to GAF for the AMA instead of letting Microsoft pick and choose.

Will the "games previously known as XBLA" still have an obligatory demo ? And what about the other digital games ?
Is it possible to "wake on LAN" the Xbox One ?
Will the SDK "for indies" include kinect support ?

Great questions. The Wheel one is especially important to me.

The funny thing is we really don't know much about either system at this point outside of some specs and screenshots of the UI (WIP) but I feel MS has a lot of ground to make up after the DRM debacle and it wouldn't hurt to reach out to the community some. Word of mouth is a powerful tool and MS could easily look at a thread like this and just have somebody in the community answer some of the these.

Is there any size limitation on External Hard drives?

IIRC the X360 has an external hard drive size restraint smaller than the PS3

Could be amount of power to the USB ports but I don't think so

Always remember my 500gb 2.5" external would work fine on the PS3 but wouldn't be read by the X360

Pretty sure I even tried one of the Y USB cables I had to check if it was port power

Maybe they changed that in a newer firmware though?

Would suck if X1 externals were limited in size as well

Will the console function as normal at all times even if Kinect can't detect a user?

What type of games do you see taking advantage of Kinect?

Have you seen Titanfall?

No, one of the PR people confirmed it's only one game at a time.

Great thread, but doesn't it seem pointless on Microsoft's side to even do the ask me anything if they can't answer any question for whatever reason? It just seems pointless.

I want to know WHO thought that having Kinect negates the need to have a headset included with the box. That person has never played an Xbox Live game in his life.

I'm pretty sure that's partially how they got into trouble before... having random people answering questions poorly.

That's why I wouldn't want it to be random. But have somebody in the community that knows what is what.

I think the reason it doesn't happen is because they just don't know. They aren't sure what the final function of the system is going to be and while I understand the silence (it's not like Sony is dishing out info either) I think MS has more ground to make up than Sony does.

Fuck! I have to mute EVERY SINGLE ONE MUTHERFUCKER who has all of his room being coming screaming over my ear buds through their Kinect mic, god please, I don't want to hear your dog bark, your mother shout, cousin chat anything beside how you are doing to help us over come this hell of online battle.

I know they'd never do it, but I'd like to know what they were thinking when they designed it. What they were actually thinking, not some neutered PR version. Not in a 'who designed this shit' kind of way, but in a, 'I think it would be interesting' kind of way.

I live in a country that is not listed on Xbox Live support -- will I be able to use US or other supported country Gold Live account to play multiplayer online? What about purchasing digital content?

If anyone can answer this now please feel free :)

Will Live allow pre-ordering and pre-loading of digital games?

Will Day One editions of digital games include the bonus content?

Will there be a Family Pack (not family share) alternative for the Xbox One?

You forgot "what were you thinking?!"

Seriously though, I would ask about the leaked document from an alleged Xbox one engineer that said they were aiming to have a steam like service. If that was the initial goal, then why not say that at the outset? In all likelihood the document was fake and what we've seen from Microsoft interms of its actions kind if backs that up, but if it were true I would love to hear why they didn't just come out and say " we're trying to make steam for consoles."
