Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

How come pretty much all of the Nintendo games so far lack AA?
It's kinda annoying, is it really that hard to implement?

Only many 3DS games and Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. Every other Wii U game has AA AFAIK.

Smash Bros and MK8 don't need AA since in motion it won't be noticeable.

AA takes up a lot of resources.

Edit: Whoops, wrong thread. Still, do we have our new Young Link?

I'm going to take a wild guess for new characters and predict that before the end of the year we will see Diddy Kong, Peach, Zelda, and a new Pokemon character revealed to go with all the upcoming games. Also Yoshi despite being one of the longest running veterans in the series, will be skipped until next year to drum up excitement for Yarn Yoshi / Yoshi's New Island.

Hmm so I just saw the news. Luigi looks great, he's one of my favorites in Smash, I'm just disappointed we didn't get a newcomer :/

Maybe Friday ;)

Pretty much for first party characters. We might have a chance to see Sonic Direct for Lost World and His reveal?

Looks like this shot must have been really tough to stage. Dear lord.

Have luigi in frame with olimar off frame throwing pikmin and then have villager quickly jump out of frame and have it all work.

That or he cheated and placed everything there using dev tools, but I like to think he stages all of this stuff by just playing the game.

Never thought about that, but now I like to think, too.

Pretty sure that's accurate. And yeah, I had the same thoughts. "Holy crap, how did he manage that?!"

Hey thanks for that!

The life of the game creator. Like anything you create and put your heart and soul into it's tough work, and many people only see the final result and don't realize what went into it. Could you imagine the developer drama that has gone on behind the scenes with each Smash title?

Also I love the picture of the day with Kirby and Olimar. I like how Sakurai acknowledges their cannon sizes as well. So the 1 inch guy is taller than the 8 inch guy huh? Ridley usually being depicted as a big character is not the issue he faces as a potential playable character. Ridley deserves a shot!

Yeah it's nice read and I'm surprised that no one would discuss further with it. I do understand how Sakurai felt when some people don't really appreciate his hard works.

However the article made me concerned that Sakurai might set first 20 characters for SSB4 and go from there to there. I'm concerned that we might get 35-39 characeters again and seeing many characters getting cut.

Wasn't there an article (or interview) stating that all the Brawl characters were in? Not sure if that includes Snake since his presence in Nintendo consoles is next to zero and his addition to Brawl was a mere personal favor but you never know.

But yeah overall whoever thought they would include a lot of new characters were kidding themselves.

7 new characters is my guess with WFT, Megaman and Villager being the first three

Random theory time: while the tree can obviously only be planted by the villager it might be able to get knocked down by anyone, for example the yellow pikmin got lobbed into the tree and it toppled over.
Granted my theory kind of falls to bits when I consider which direction the tree is falling, unless the yellow tore right through the tree instead of bouncing off it.

Nah, wasn't ever confirmed, just speculated for a bit.

Sakurai finally achieved to play with 4 pads at a time, all by himself?

So any consensus on which version people are more excited for? Personally, I'm loving the look of the 3DS version. The Wii U style looks stale in comparison.

He totally cheated c'mon.

Irrespective of their graphics, I'm more interested in the Wii U version because it's the one which will allow me to play Smash Bros. the way I always have: me and a bunch of friends staring at a TV screen all day (and sometimes all night).

Having said that, I'll probably be getting both.

3DS for me. The idea of playing a legit Smash game whenever and wherever I want is too tempting. The art style is beautiful too!

He clearly cheated, don't be silly.

Both look great, I'd probably play the Wii U one more but having a portable Smash Brothers sounds fantastic. Only issue I see is all the smash attacks won't be super comfortable on the 3DS, as seen from KI:U.

So Luigi is in.

Would really like if they named more then one vet at a time.
Yeah, Luigi was a big yawn, of course he's in, they wouldn't remove any of the N64 characters. I wish they would just tell us which veterans are and aren't in the game so people can stop worrying if X character made the cut or not.

Whenever I picture SSB4 I always imagine the WiiU version. The more I think about the 3ds version, however, the more excited I get for *it*!
I think I'm looking most forward to the 3DS version, if I had to choose right now.

Dude, today we just learned that Luigi for the first time in Smash history will be a starting character. This is the biggest veteran update so far

What makes you say that?

While Sakurai could break precedent something awful, all characters revealed pre-release in the dojo were the starting characters, IIRC.

Plus, it stands to reason that this would happen, since Luigi has another new game, and has a year dedicated to him by Nintendo, which includes a Luigi costume in Rayman Legends, a Luigi mode in Mario Golf (I think it was Mario Golf, anyway), a Mario & Luigi game that uses him as a centerpiece, etc.

A solution to please both parties. Luigi unlocks as soon as you turn on the game, it would be like when I turned on Melee for the first time and was informed that i'd unlocked Mushroom Kingdom 2 by doing absolutely nothing, turns out Pidgit was my starting trophy thus solving the riddle.

But really they might as well just throw him in from the start.

So...you're saying you have no actual evidence, then?

You really think Megaman will be a starting character? Neither Sonic or Snake were starting characters in Brawl.

Even if Luigi is a starting character, I wouldn't consider it a big deal. I was more relieved to know Olimar was returning.

For the first three games, the only hidden characters revealed before launch were Brawl's third parties (for obvious reasons). It's safer to assume that Luigi's a starting character than an unlockable until we're told otherwise.

So...you're saying you have no actual evidence, then?

First off, if that was an acceptable response, then half of the discussions that take place in anything Smash-related pre-release would end with one reply.

Second off, the fact that Sakurai has never revealed an unlockable character pre-release save for "big deal" characters like Snake and Sonic is precedence that he wouldn't do that again, which is evidence. I mean, Sakurai is a person right now who doesn't want to reveal too much - why would he reveal a character who had to be unlocked (third party rep aside)?

That's why I don't say a lot in this thread, actually.

It's not really evidence, though. Especially if Sakurai is involved. I've learned not to trust him on most things, so I'm not going to bother getting any hopes up until the final product is in my hands and I can confirm for myself.

It's also the season of Luigi (2 games + a DLC expansion is as much a year as 3 prawns is to a galaxy), so there's also that.

That's great if really true. It was bothering me so much in his other screens. His tunic just looked odd at times.

Why would it surprise anyone that they'd fix graphic glitches like this? The game is still a year away from launching... they're going to get a lot of fine tuning done between now and then.

It's like whenever a developer shows off early stuff people forget it's a work in progress and just assume it's always going to be a certain way.

Where is that Luigi taunt from, anyway? Does it have a history outside Smash Bros.?
Not directly, but I think it's based off his swimming sprite in Super Mario World -- the same sound effect plays when he does that taunt after winning a match.
