Pretty disappointing that they didn't even try the multiplayer for Pikmin, I don't know where Alex was checking but I was under the impression Bingo Battle was pretty well-received?

Also, sort of frustrating that he misrepresents the basic premise of the game that's explained in a minute by the opening cutscene.

Alex playing pikman
Both hilarious and frustrating.

What more visual indicator do you need that the giant boss will attack you?
*Boss opens pincers from across the screen, lifting front up then lumbers forward
*Alex bravely stands his ground, rotating the camera.

That gif would be even more accurate if we couldn't see what was going on since Alex's camera was always in the fucking forests because he moved it about three times in total. It's not that he just sucked at the game but he also lacked any logic at all. How about aim the camera where the object you're aiming at is?

I'm pretty much never bothered by any of them struggling to play a game unless they go on about how the game doesn't explain something after missing obvious prompts and indicators.

The only time I was ever bothered was during the Chrono Trigger ER were the game kept telling them that only a certain type of spell would damage a particular enemy and they just kept ignoring it.

Random question:

I watched the 2011 GOTY video last night where in between each game they are all dressed up really weird. Was that an inside joke to something or just them being incredibly random?

In Alex' defense, he is using the gamepad which is almost unplayable.

I still don't get why they didn't put the pointer on the right stick and the movement on the left stick.

Seriously, it's one of the worst gameplay decision i've ever seen... and since i'm not going to play the game with a wiimote, this game falls kinda short for me

Wasn't that the year that they were making fun of FMV games like Mad Dog McCree?

They just wanted to do like fake FMV game style presentation.

edit - They had done a QL of the Mad Dog McRee rerelease in 2011 and Wavy Tube Man Chronicles came out earlier that year.

So much hate for how he played Pikmin 3. He did say before he started playing it that he barely played any of the game. I took his bad playing as him not knowing much about the controls since he's played so little of it so far.

Brad was right in that Brothers QL - it was totally a bug. There is a cut scene missing when they get to that room. The troll looks at the guard and the camera zooms in on the key making it super obvious what to do and then you just go and grab it. No rope or bone or anything.

Shame as I was hoping they just missed something obvious, would have been funnier.

Watch the video till the end

I enjoyed the Pikmin 3 QL - never really played those games and I think the game looks sweet - and I would probably paly like Alex - did not see anything wrong really.

Hope the Powerbombcast doesn't bury modern wrestling. I have faith that Jared might watch New Japan. If he doesn't he might be the one we can convert.

Alex has been good in the quick looks and podcast this week, good to have him around.

Yep. I got to the first boss and had to switch to the Wiimote because it's downright unplayable (I probably could have beat the boss, but it's a very frustrating experience). I really don't like using the Wiimote, though, so I haven't played the game all that much.

I don't get the hate for the Pikmin quck look. It was fine and really sold me on the game. These guys are pretty much always bad at games. It was entertaining. Drew had me cracking up.

It's good to have Alex back. His opinions on games are great. He just needs to tone himself down a bit, like Patrick did. Hope he sticks around.

Drew's "Go gettit!" were perfect, he is always so enthusiastic when he likes a series.

You can lock on to the boss... I played through the whole game just fine with the GamePad (I started out using the Wiimote) and I didn't find any problem with controlling the character or the cursor.

Nah, I don't think we will. From the discussions Alex and I have had, it was decided that now was the best time for the podcast while modern wrestling (and especially the WWE) is actually enjoyable again.

My favorite show right now is NXT, so I have plenty of reasons to be excited for the future of the company. And while I don't actively watch NJPW, I do try and keep up with the current events and watch matches when I can. Do you have any favorite resources that kind of stuff?

Pikmin looks absolutely incredible, I love the kind of tilt-shift effect they have going there. Wish I could play it. Gamepad controls look pretty frustrating though.

Maaan, the Pikmin 3 QL was painful to watch as someone who has completed the game. I wish they had tried out the multiplayer, because it's pretty fantastic.

came here to say this, lol

it was SO hard to watch D:

It was entertaining as far as Quick Looks go, and I do love Drew. Still, the ignorance and misinformation was difficult to tolerate. :p

I also don't think Alex was aware you can touch the GamePad screen to pause the game & get a bird's eye view of the whole area, which would've been rather helpful to him.

I'm not sure why you don't want to play it with a Wiimote... but my advice is you should play it with a Wiimote!

If he's going September 5, wouldn't he have just left Seattle after PAX Prime, which is the prior weekend?

No, they bailed on PAX Australia. It was confirmed very early on that they were still going to Prime.
I know Jeff confirmed he was going to prime but I remember before Ryan passed the conversation on the bombcast was that they wanted to take a break, especially after some of the stuff the penny arcade guys said.

Is the first podcast going to jump straight into current events? It would be cool if we could also get some background/history of the guys on the cast in terms of their wrestling fandom. When did they start watching, favorite wrestlers/feds/shows growing up, etc.

Gabe saying he considers transexuals with penises still men or something, though I don't remember it being brought up on the bombcast.

There was a game that was designed to help teach women to masturbate. Some people were asking why the game was biased against women who didn't have vaginas. Gabe made a comment that he felt that a woman should have a vagina.

Add into that a very controversial description of a panel at PAX Australia that appeared to make fun of people who crusade for social justice online, and people began to get very angry. Gabe, in his usual method, doubled down on being a dick for a while before writing an apology and later a pledge that he would donate $10,000 to a charity dedicated to trans issues and said he would be more mindful when speaking on the issue in the future.

Some people however feel that the apology was hollow and that supporting Penny Arcade by giving them money shows a lack of support of the trans community and supports bigots. The developers of Gone Home especially publicly denounced Penny Arcade and announced that they would be boycotting PAX.

We discussed it in this thread earlier. I know that Patrick chose not to submit a panel idea because of this, and he's expressed concern that they're even attending but feels that he can't deprive fans of the opportunity to directly interact with GB. I don't recall anyone else from GB talking about it.

Oh man, Brad kept his cool through that situation much better than I would have thought, ha ha.

Hell yeah, any NXT love is good by me. I actually make an effort to watch NXT every week which is weird because I don't do the same for Raw and rarely watch Smackdown.

TL;DR ahead.

NJPW: There's the usual torrent sites but New Japan actually run internet PPVs now, broadcast on uStream. Lots of independent promotions are trying them these days but they're almost always godawful due to the technical issues. New Japan has had no such problems. I'd recommend checking them out if you can (they stream live and have video on demand for like a week after). Alternatively, the shows turn up on YouTube really quickly. I'm currently watching the G1 Climax tournament on YouTube because they're streaming all 9 shows for $150 and I can't afford that.

Here's a few choice matches with a bit of backstory to each, might be worth passing around the guys because Japanese wrestling isn't for everyone. The commentary's usually a divisive issue but I love it. Don't speak a word of Japanese but their enthusiasm's incredible.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Minoru Suzuki: Rated five stars by the Wrestling Observer, the first NJPW match to be awarded that since 1997. Really weird match if you watch a lot of New Japan main events because they tried something a bit different stylistically and it was kinda awesome. Japan's known for its abuse of finishing moves and nearfalls as the match builds. Count the number of nearfalls in this one.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada: The most recent major title match between these two. Tanahashi is New Japan's current ace (despite whoever holds the main title), Okada will be the one to succeed him unless something goes very wrong. Another of the few matches awarded five stars by the Wrestling Observer. Fun fact: TNA had both of these men on their roster at one point. They used Tanahashi on Xplosion every now and then, they made Okada the sidekick of Samoa Joe in a Green Hornet parody. They kinda fucked up.

Hirooki Goto vs. Katsuyori Shibata: These two had a match before this that ended in a double knockout, a finish rarely seen in Japan but it totally works when you see how it plays into the sequel here. Shibata and Goto used to be training partners and best friends, Shibata being heralded as one of the new "Three Musketeers" of NJPW alongside Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura. Unfortunately he quit NJPW and tried to become an MMA fighter. He didn't do so well at that but returned to wrestling this year and has been awesome since.

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi: Ishii is basically a career jobber. He's been around since the 90s, never held a major championship, he's short, stumpy and until a few months ago was a low ranked member of a heel stable. He's suddenly gained a massive cult following due to the heart he's showed in his matches when he's stood up to legit main eventers, so here he gets a main event match against Tanahashi. Tanahashi's a legitimate modern day Hall of Famer. The match also takes place in Korakuen Hall, a venue that loves a bit of Ishii and is sick of that pretty boy Tanahashi.

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Katsuyori Shibata: Dave Meltzer described this on his podcast as "the Frye vs. Takayama of pro wrestling". It's just two guys beating the absolute piss out of each other. Keep in mind this match occurred two days after the Ishii vs. Tanahashi match.
