Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

I have plus and downloaded 2 purchased games this week.

I think each game hung at least 3 times (full power on/off each time)

Oh is that what a dl hang is? Man I was getting worried it was my Vita, it seems just about everytime I go to dl something it
freezes and I have to do a hard power down. I am begnning to worry about long term damage to the vita. I may just dl to my ps3 then transfer data, or do you think I'm being paranoid?

The only fun SSB clone(that includes original game as well) was the FMA one, and just because I was a huge fanboy at the time, I rather play some shittastic fighting game than that crap, that basically rides on fanservice to obscure how mediocre its gameplay is.

Right, I've come back to my Vita after a few months away (4-5months). So what's new, what do I really need to play. Recommend me some stuff, I will literally turn my hand to any kind of game.

theres a quite abit - off the top of my head:

guacamelee
muramasa
soul sacrifice
dragons crown
sly cooper 4
jak and daxter

thomas was alone
velocity ultra
pixeljunk monsters
limbo
jacob jones
dragon fantasy
hotline miami
rocketbirds
mens room mayhem

all quality games but some are much better than others - but you can figure out what you think you'd enjoy.

and upcoming:

Killzone ( which has a phenominal closed beta going right now)
Tearaway
Ys Celceta
Batman Blackgate
FFX/X-2

and a sh*t ton of awesome indies....spelunky, terraria, etc.

I've never had an issue with Soul Sacrifice, but the frame rate in Dragon's Crown does drop noticeably when there are a lot of spell effects and enemies going on at the same time. The game never becomes almost unplayable.
Thanks for your input! If anyone else has any experiences of the framerate in "Dragon's Crown" multiplayer on Vita to share, I'm eager to hear about them!

To be fair against "Soul Sacrifice", my memories of that game's performance might be slightly tainted by the fact that lately I've mostly been doing endgame bosses in 3-4 player multiplayer. 2x Illecebras jumping around and lots of different flashy spells going off all the time. It's not entirely representative of the game. In more normal multiplayer fights, like 4 players vs Cerberus, the framerate was noticeably worse than in singleplayer but it didn't really affect gameplay at all.

Daym. Better get busy then.

Off topic -- it doesn't matter if "it looks all that much better". It matters that it runs at a consistent framerate. :P

I never meant it that way. Personally, Dark Souls (on PC) is one of the best-looking games I've ever seen. (with DSFix of course)

I meant it like this: Dark Souls SHOULD be able to run well (because the technology isn't that impressive), but it's a bad port. If Dark Souls II has nearly the same technology but is a good port, than it should run fine on lower-end systems like the Vita.

Trust me, I'm all for performance over visuals. I love 60 fps to death.

for titles on ps3 and vita, how do you decide which system to get a game for?

i'm debating which one for dragon's crown, and i'll probably stay undecided and end up never getting it...

All personal preference really.

As long as the Vita version is solid, I opt for that one. I really enjoy the pick up and play that the Vita offers thanks to its ability to suspend games. This adds a lot to games where they are better taken in bite sized portions, rather than longer sessions expected with consoles.

For Dragon's Crown, the very nature of it seems suited for the Vita. I have yet to get it since I'm waiting for the AU release, but I will be getting on the Vita.

If Sony would have released that Island game on the Vita as is it would have been 'lol Sony' all over including from me.

I'm getting both!

....I realize that's not much help.

My only worry on Dragon's Crown is I'm hearing about these framerate issues when it gets busy. Otherwise, I'm all about the Vita version if it's solid, just like you.
The ability to just grab the Vita while I'm on the couch, not have to turn on the PS3, not have to focus my attention solely on the TV... that's preferable to me... makes me wish the guy who did that PC streaming app would have perfected it and put it up on PSM... I'd play a ton of my steam library streamed to my Vita... (or if Sony would fix PS3 remote play).

Generally speaking, Vita > PS3 for me, unless the port has problems and then I hope the game is cross-buy and I just switch in the problematic parts. For games where it's just borderline unplayable (R&C FFA), that's a no brainer to go PS3.

It's not until late November/early December
12/03 is the date you need to worry about
when it comes to how the game ends.

My only worry on Dragon's Crown is I'm hearing about these framerate issues when it gets busy.

I have yet to actually see a video of how bad the frame rate drop is, but I can probably tolerate it. Shinovi Versus had a pretty iffy frame rate when a ton of enemies were on screen and that didn't detract too much from my enjoyment.

Yea EU only for now
Another game not on the Australian store I wanted :(

I almost always opt for Vita, but Dragons Crown was a small exception with me wanting to play multiplayer with my friends that don't own Vitas and DLC being region locked. Still though, with that said I'll be picking up the Vita version of Dragons Crown when it comes out locally.

It's really handy that most cross-platform indie games are cross-buy as it allows me to enjoy both without having to pay extra.

The Vita version does have framerate dips during lots of action going on at once, but it's been a non-issue for me so far when playing. The dips sometimes even help me do combos with harder to chain together attacks a lot easier!

I really would like to see video of it before I plunk down $40.

You call these people your friends? Son, it's best that you stop associating with such seedy people.

Converting now PC-only gamers to a Vita is no easy task, but I'll get them to buy a Vita one day and join me in that OLED screen gloriousness.

I'm gonna go sit in my corner with my Vita alone now

Man. A native res Uncharted Golden Abyss would have looked amazing. :(

Here's to hoping the next Bend game will be.

It's easy. You go up and smash their monitors with their keyboards, while strangling them with the cords of their mice. After associating PC gaming with such a traumatic experience, you comfort them with the allure of a sexy Vita.

You mean you actually have friends who own Vitas? Half of my friends have never heard of the Vita before I showed them mine.

...I never said that.

;_;

I actually sold one of my friends on the Vita and PS3 even though he's a PC gamer. Sony should just hire me already.

Ditto, I'm really hoping that now that Bend have had more time to get used to the Vita hardware their new title will be native res.

Seems like a friendly way to introduce them to the Vita.

Imo the next uncharted for vita will be native res with graphics that are equal or even better than golden abyss... Am i too optimistic? :)

If they're PC only, they won't be playing DC with you unless you let them come to your house. At that point, you just tell them "No entry without a Vita". ;)

Nice.

yup - most people ask if it's a psp.

:lol
I've had this happen.

I still think Vita is very poorly utilized. Maybe developers are concerned about the lack of space in the cartridge or the battery life. I think it can yield much more.

not sure how logical it is but hypothetically if a developer uses up all the space on a card, they could make you download a remaining "patch" or content as well - can play it off as free DLC hah!...

Good catch. Friends don't let friends not buy Vitas.
So much this.
You mean you actually have friends who own Vitas? Half of my friends have never heard of the Vita before I showed them mine.
Two friends at my work ended up buying a Vita after they saw mine. We usually try to make a weekly get together to do some MP, whether it's Wipeout, NFS, Unit 13, or even those AR games. Two other friends outside of work I know have Vita's, but both are new dads (within NB-4 years), and don't have a ton of free time, but they LOVE the Vita because of it's ability for those shurt burst play sessions. This is far more people than the number of people I knew with PSPs. I am aquaintances with 2 other who have them, and they are on my friends list, but I don't talk/see them much.

All my other friends say, "I want one, I just don't want to spend the money on it." *Sigh.* So I send multiple links from Craigslist to them, or let them know of good bundle deals I find. Sadly, still nothing.

Once I waited for someone in the lobby of some hospital and a doctor, well over 50 years old, came to me and asked what I was playing. I played Wipeout and he told me that he sucks at Wipeout :D Apparantly he was a Dr. Vitabro.

After seeing Killzone Mercenary I'm sure its possible.
I am also pretty sure that we'll see what BEND was doing the past 18 months at Gamescom.
Another Uncharted?
Infamous Vita?
GodOfWar Vita?
Something new?

so now that Killzone is coming out... beautiful might i addd - are there chances that other studios will utilize their engine or techniques and we will be seeing nicer looking games across the board down the road?

BreakQuest: Extra Evolution Freemium
Price: Free
Free my ass.

It's a timed demo, with a timer that starts when you've downloaded it.

I installed it yesterday, wanted to play today, all my lives are gone.
I didn't even get it to play it once.

I wonder how I should set my gamescom expectations? I'm not really sure what studio is working on a vita title now.

I don't have any expectations for any gaming events like E3 or Gamescom, or Tokyo Game Show, etc.

I just look forward to them for what interesting things they may show, but I don't get swept up in the hype of them. I advise you to keep them low to non-existent, personally. But I'd say that for every console, from the PS3/4 to the Wii U and Xbox One, etc.

I have yet to be disappointed by one of these gaming events because of it.
