Steam Greenlight: 1000 games and counting, more Greenlit every few weeks

MouseCraft looks really cool! I don't suppose you want a Japanese version? ;)

That is awesome! If you ever want to feature any Playism games let me or thetrin know!
We are currently looking for channels who are interested in doing videos for our next game Unholy Heights as it really lends itself to LPs in my opinion.
There are already hundreds of videos on the Japanese site Nico Nico for the game.

I think that would be fun to try out :). You guys aren't on greenlight yet I assume (just checked)?

I've been enjoying Savant - Ascent from Dpad (Owlboy, Vikings on Trampolines) a lot lately. Go greenlight it. Also, it's only 2 bucks over on Humble Store and you should totally support it.

Yeah that game rocks, the artstyle and music is just perfect :). I featured it on my channel if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Bought and got Top-Hat Koala! Yay! Bling Koala was a little out of my reach at the moment.
Gave you a thumbs up on Greenlight too.

Thanks man! ;D It's our first commercial release, here at Crunching Koalas, so we're enjoying every satisfied gamer ;).

voted yes on Mouse Craft
Thanks! Be sure to tell your friends about it, cause' it's gonna be a tough campaign... We are at 26% right now. Don't know if that's ok after 7 days. How do you think?

Oh, we are alright there (even made a special subdomain to remember it better): http://greenlight.mouse-craft.com

I did not mean Mousecraft (will definitely do that one), but I meant Unholy Heights :)

What happens when i vote I'm not interested ?

Does it have negative repercussions on game or just removes it from my que of games to check ?
You mean, when you vote "No", right?

There are different opinions about it- Valve claims it has no effect on the game, but a lot of indies say that a game which has a big number of "No" votes won't get Greenlit.
No votes don't count against people, period. But, imagine if you need 25,000 votes to be Greenlit. Now imagine only 35,000 people are regular Greenlight users. It's true that if all of those regular Greenlight users vote against you, that doesn't count against you, but you'll now need to get all your votes from non-regular Greenlight users specifically drawn to your campaign. And that's not very likely. I think you can agree that if someone clicks through to your campaign from RPS or whatever, they're likely to vote yes. So the source of no votes is going to be people who regularly browse Greenlight voting no to clear their queue. Even though no votes don't count against you, you'd much rather all yes votes because it'll get you to the magic number faster.
I thought I should add to this that I've seen entries on Greenlight that are labelled "this game is disqualified from Greenlight for not matching the standards we set here; please see this FAQ to better understand how to tailor your game to make it" (heavily paraphrasing). These were really early entries, though, and generally looked kinda crappy; I'm surprised they didn't turn into 404s like most of the early shit did. I'm not sure if that's what did them in, or if they got a heavy flow of "No" votes that drew Valve's ire onto them.

No, I don't have an example of this. I found it while reading the first 30 (50?) pages of Something Awful's Greenlight thread, and SA has the paywall up right now.

It wasn't removed, though... if you clicked an old link to the Greenlight page, you'd still get it; it's just there was a yellow banner across the top with a disclaimer similar to what I said.

I really wish I still had the example on hand. :\

Thanks BLunted!
Talisman is currently sat just outside of the top 100 games on Greenlight.

We'd love to get onto Steam, it'll make things like worldwide Talisman tournaments easier to arrange. Please vote everyone!

Thanks.

Outside the top 100? That's almost criminal!

Am I the only person who played this board game as a kid?

Hey man, thanks for posting the news about MouseCraft! My name's Tom and I'm one of the Crunching Koalas.

The game can be easily described as a cross between Lemmings and Tetris, with some crazy cartoon-steampunk style graphics:

If anyone would like to get more details about the game, here's the website: http://mouse-craft.com, some say it's worth going inside just for the falling mouse ;).

You can also watch the launch video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2bQ-Y_h-DQ&yt:cc=on (sorry for the barbaric english language of our Art Director)

The Alpha version is indeed free, you can get it by signing up for our Beta Program: http://crunchingkoalas.com/betaprogram

If you like the game, you can support it's creation and give us as much as you feel the final game is worth: http://get.mouse-craft.com
You will get the full game when development is complete along with all the extra content: soundtrack (composed by our friend who scored Dark Souls 2 announcement trailer)

Also, we are obviously on Greenlight - all the votes will be deeply appreciated: http://greenlight.mouse-craft.com

Cheers,
Tom - Crunching Koalas

As promised I decided to feature MouseCraft on my Indie channel and the result is here.

Also bumping this reply because of the fun puzzle elements in the game :)

I think WayForward might need our help on promoting Shantae on Steam :P anyone wanna make a threadt?
I'd be happy to have it on Steam, but as far as I remember, they weren't updating the Greenlight page and there wasn't really any indication that they had ever even started a PC version. Maybe they could do a port via an emulator or something though.

The 7th Guest? Are you kidding me?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the game itself, but that is not what Greenlight is for. Greenlight should be for up and coming games or recent overlooked releases. Not games that have sold millions of copies worldwide over the course of 20 years.

Put the game on Steam, that's fine. But to do it through Greenlight is nonsense. Steam just keeps finding more reasons for people to be disillusioned with the garbage that is Greenlight.

You mean it's not what you think Greenlight should be for. Because it is what Greenlight is for. Anyone who isn't a regular Steam publisher goes through Greenlight now, even if the game they're publishing was a success. Steam isn't GOG, it's not designed to catalogue and preserve old games, Valve has very few DOSBox games--they only put those that have contemporary appeal.

Steam just keeps finding more reasons for people to be disillusioned with the garbage that is Greenlight.

Seems to me like they've steadily increased the tempo of new approvals and took steps to address issues people have found with the "garbage". *shrugs*

Any idea how long it will take 7th Guest to be released on Steam from this point on?

They can release it basically within a week if they choose. If they choose to implement Steamworks and have not done so in advance of the Greenlight (they can start adding Steamworks functionality well in advance if they want to, the SDK is open) selection, then you might be waiting a while. Of course they might deliberately choose a particular period for release, or maybe they want to market it in advance, or whatever.

I completely agree. It blows my mind how relatively known games would require this service. After seeing Dragon's Lair have to go through it I guess I shouldn't be surprised any of this.

A good batch, good to see Maia get on there. They are really increasing the number of games they are putting through now.

No, the only project on Greenlight from us at the moment is La-Mulana which of course has already been selected.

We are waiting to hear back about the game directly from Valve now.....so we will see!

I don't understand why they don't give us badges for Greenlight. Surely you would get 10 times the amount of people voting if they did.

No no you're doing it wrong. Make it so that every time you vote on Greenlight, there's a chance you will get trading cards.

Because if a developer can't drum up enough enthusiasm for their title on their own to get people to press a thumbs up button, they definitely won't get those people to pay for it.

Valve is trying to judge the commercial viability of greenlight titles, not figure out how much people like badges.

This game looks super interesting

"Krautscape is an action-packed multi-player racing game with bird-like flying cars. The leading player is actively building the racetrack while the chasing players can take shortcuts by flying off the track to overcome obstacles. But the track is needed to score and to get speed – the vehicles don't have any thrusters to accelerate while flying.
The three gamemodes are designed to support nonlinear gameplay and intelligent movement instead of forcing you to drive perfectly. Krautscape is currently in development for Mac, PC and Linux."

That does look quite cool. Thanks for the heads up!

Is there an 'awesome greenlight games' list somewhere?

A good place to start would be Greenlightgaming.com and their list http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=115089158. There are some other places the do spotlights around the web and lots of collections on Steam that can be found here http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?section=collections&appid=765.

Or you could check out my humble collection lol http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=171041981

Good lists ... but they miss

Chroma Squad
Odallus
Mr Bree+
Three Dead Zed
Ballpoint Universe
Love+
Shantae
Gunman Clive
Qasir Al-wasat
Out There Somewhere
Oniken

Gunman Clive and Love+ are made by gaffers

Missing Freedom Planet, too (which, while it might be selfish, is the game I wanna see get Greenlit the most; it was at #89 immediately after the last batch...).

Actually, that Greenlit Gaming list has several games on it which have already been greenlit; The Writer, Maia and BROFORCE, just to name a few. They should probably trim that out.

As for good lists, there's always Something Awful's official unofficial list, curated by the goons of the forums. They're pretty good at separating the wheat from the chaff.

If everyone's okay with it, I'd like to post the Greenlight a couple of friends and I have been working on.

The game's called Wing Rage, and the shortest description for it would be: "a 3D arcade space shooter inside a procedural sphere".

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)
