Ratio for PS4 orders in Netherlands exceeds Xbox One by 3.5:1, how about elsewhere?

Aiii

So not worth it
So, several Dutch retailers have had word last monday how many pre-order units they will get from Sony for the PS4 and had to stop taking pre-orders for day one release. This seems to be mostly a combination of day one demand and Sony not willing to sell all day one units via pre-orders.

Now, what's interesting is that two retailers have released data about the number of pre-orders they have received so far for PS4 compared to Xbox One. One has a 4:1 advantage for PS4, the other a 3:1 advantage for PS4. (as per insidegamer.nl).

Given how significant this number is, this has me wondering if this just a local thing confined to The Netherlands/Europe or if this is a worldwide occurence. And more specifically North-America, given the higher succes of the 360 there compared to NL.

So, to check if that ratio holds up elsewhere, I have made a little survey, just three simpel multiple choice questions. Namely will you buy a PS4 or a Xbox One respectively and what region are you in?

So please fill out the survey here:

You can view the real-time reactions at any time, here:

I will make per region reports later.

there's no answer for "no. not buying one".

it sounds like i'll eventually buy one.

Just choose the 4th option. Nobody can say, "oh I will buy one in 2015" or "I will never ever buy one" because you don't know:
1. Which games will be out.
2. What support there will be from all parties involved.
3. Pricing at that point.

That's why I didn't include it. It's just about the first year expectations based on what we know.

I'd say it's a good rep of day one/early adopters.

I don't know, maybe. I still think a major portion of the gaming public that will jump on a new console day one are underrepresented here. I took the survey anyway.

I'm from the US and currently have a PS4 preordered, kind of teetering whether to keep it for launch. I have no plan to buy an Xbox One.

It seems to me that asking GAF members to fill out this poll will not be representative of the general public. Did you somehow make this poll known to non-GAFers? Through facebook and google+ perhaps?

NeoGAF is a really bad sample for a survey that is intended to represent the general console buyer.

The survey is intended to measure pre-orders, which are almost always hardcore gamers. Seems accurate to me.

See above.

I have not, solely because I hardly do social media, and adding 100+ Dutch people to the mix would really not add that much value.

You're welcome to share with whomever you want though, go right ahead.

Well, of course we're a small country, but for what it's worth, the 360:PS3 ratio is only very slightly in favor of PS3 right now.

You missed the slightly obscure joke about Microsoft categorizing Japan as a "Tier 2" country ;)

These statistics are rendered completely pointless where I live. Whatever tiny amount of launch machines the local shops are going to get, they are either already reserved or will be gone within day one.

That means Sony will immediately sell all 200 or so machines they are shipping over and MS will sell all 150 they are shipping over.

It's really isn't that surprising considering that outside of UK PS3 sells more than X360 in Europe. Probably similar ratio around the Europe.

I preordered an XB1 today, guess I have a thing for underdog consoles.
Xbox One is not an underdog, it is an undermanatee!

Still, I hope my pre-orders for both consoles are good, provided I submitted those only a month ago. Not so sure I'd get the Launch Day Xbox One model now...

Sorry, assuming NeoGAF is representative of the "hardcore" or "early adopter" set is the faulty assumption here.

If you want to base your results on popularity of these respective systems at NeoGAF, this is a good poll, otherwise, your wasting your time.

Here in Australia my local EB Games has taken hundreds of PS4 pre-orders and only a few Xbone pre-orders. This was a few days ago and the news of the PS4 pre-order stop has sent everyone into panic mode. Everyone is scrambling now. The 1st batch of PS4's in Australia is gone. People are signing up for the 2nd batch now.

So, standings as recorded up to some odd 15 minutes ago (just NA and Europe, as other regions have low response right now)

Europe:
PS4: 13 people have no intent to buy, 12 people will buy one before the end of 2014. 63 people will buy one in 2013.
Xbone: 75 people have no intent to buy, 1 person will buy one before the end of 2014. 12 people will buy one in 2013.

NA:
PS4: 6 people have no intent to buy, 6 people will buy one before the end of 2014. 51 people will buy one in 2013.
Xbone: 45 people have no intent to buy, 10 people will buy one before the end of 2014. 8 people will buy one in 2013.

So that means for 2013 only, the ratio's are:
Europe: 5.25 PS4 to 1 Xbone
NA: 6.4 PS4 to 1 Xbone

If we include 2014:
Europe: 6.5 PS4 to 1 Xbone
NA: 3.2 PS4 to 1 Xbone

it'd be interesting if we did a poll on neogaf about a month before launch. or maybe a thread with a linked quiz so that we could say which country we live in too.

Two dutch shops from the sony nl preorder page list the ps4 as 13-11-2013. (toysXL and Foregames) If not true i said nothing.

I don't like any console failing, I do hope X1 makes enough profit to keep an interest in their console + gaming in general, enough to push Sony for good healthy competition.

I don't know about anyone else on this tho, but coming from owning an Xbox360 the Majority of the gen (PS3 For exclusives, now PS3 exclusively :D ) : seeing their lack of support in games, Studios owned and emphases on anything other than shooter, combined with their X1 Launch PR disaster, last but not least their pursue off an entertainment box and putting "US" gamers that supported them to the back seat with decently inferior hardware to their competition.

My opinion on the Ratios sold compared to PS4, with the above paragraph in mind: F**k em - I hope they learn from their mistakes, they made their bed so they should Lie in it.

Nice this survey is awesome. Xbox is not winning lol XboxOneDayOne!

Sometimes I like to make my browser window really narrow so I can't see the member status of all the posters in threads like these. Then I read the posts and try to guess which ones are made by juniors.

I gotta say, I'm getting pretty good at it.

Interesting extra facts:

- MediaMarkt also listed November 13th on unofficial branding in their stores, around two months ago.
- When asked about it, they said they copied the release date from bol.com
- Bol.com said that they based the release date on a guess

So either toysXL and Foregames decided to jump on the "random guess" november 13 bandwagon, or it actually is the release date for the PS4 and bol.com tried to protect themselves by saying it was just a guess.

Another interesting fact:

- Game Mania says the second batch of PS4s will arrive in December. So the first batch (the launch day batch) will be available either in November or really early December, depending on how long it takes for Sony to ship out new units.

People who follow the enthusiast press and post regularly on a videogame message boards are the epitome of hardcore gamer normally, as well as the early adopter.

Neck and neck!

There's nothing stopping this survey from being shared elsewhere, with other groups. Which it has.

Hey! Thats gotta be some form of internet discrimination, we cant all be painted with the same brush :)

Didnt they say that there is a pre order stop, and if you pre order now you will have the console before december 31 2013.
I cant find that they said the second batch is delivered in december.

Preorder before June 24: guaranteed Day One PS4
Preorder between June 24 and August 7: get the second batch, estimated December
Preorder after August 7: No console guaranteed in 2013

It's on gamemania.eu/ps4

You can still preorder an xbox one but was told no chance of getting a PS4 on release. My only hope is get to a Big W or K mart early.

As long as you see MS keep doing 180s before they even launch the system you can bet that pre-ordes are not so good.

I have learned over the years to give MS the benefit of the doubt when people try to use ratio numbers to put them in a tight spot. Remember that GTA IV thread where damn near everyone was getting the PS3 version of it and it still ended up selling more on 360. Same thing with NPD for months and even years.
