Giant Bomb Thread #5 - We love you, Ryan Davis

I got a twitch alert that Jeff went live yesterday at 4PM, but I can't find an archived video (and there don't seem to be any mentions of it here). Did Twitch just goof?

He probably went online and then went, "ah fuck that."

Twitch's new interface is such garbage. I tried again and now there's a video. Unfortunately...it seems to be him testing his Vita capture kit again or something. No audio, just video of Tokyo Jungle and the Vita's interface. Bummer. I saw the alert and thought there might be jar time.

Mystery solved.

"Wow Scrooge McDuck sure sounds like a voice actor who's aged 20 years since I last heard him"

*googling*

"Holy Shit!"

edit: ...also this

'I did not see the show. It seemed terrible.'

Jeff Gerstmann, for those still wanting to hitch onto this anti-Yoshi's Island agenda.

I had almost the same experience as Brad that Ducktales hit when I was just the right age, but I'm a little older so I never liked Darkwing Duck, but know younger folks who love that show.

Am I the only one who thinks that the 3D objects in the ducktales remastered game looks like complete shit?

Like the jars, ice cream cones, treasure chests, jewels etc. etc.

And the actress who voices Magica De Spell is 95, so kudos to Wayforward on getting them in the game, but of course they are going to sound old and tired!

EDIT: Looking into it, they brought back all the original voice actors from the show for this game (even Launchpad though he sounded very different), except for the ones who had died of course (like the actress who voiced Mrs Beakley and the actor who voiced Gyro).

EDiT2: I'm older than Jeff and I really enjoyed DuckTales. Apparently the show debuted in September of 1987, so Jeff would have been 12 then.

Isn't LoL still more popular than Dota2? Why does it feel like the zeitgeist is more about Dota? Maybe just the exposure I get to it from Giant Bomb.
I think partially it's a cultural thing. Dota is bigger in the western world, LoL in asia? I know so many people that play Dota, and only one that played LoL. He doesn't even seem to like it.

LoL is more popular everywhere. Both the East and the West.

I am genuinely slightly pissed that I haven't been following TI3/DOTA2. Feeling like I'm missing a somewhat important cornerstone in the history of video games.
The International 2013 was absolutely incredible.

Probably the best esports tournament I've seen. Amazing play, rock solid production values, great storylines. Good fucking shit.

OK, it's cool that Ducktales Remastered has the original voice actors and all that, but not having a "skip cutscene" button is a massive "fuck you" to fans of the original who just wanna get on with it.

edit: wait, never mind, I just got to that bit :lol

Seems like he liked the game as far as nostalgia goes, just not some of the remastered bits.

I don't think Jeff remembers what Ducktails sounded like in it's prime. It's all the same people doing the same vocal inflections.

The ability to turn that stuff off not being there is a problem though. For a game that's routed in nostalgia like this one, the ability to play it like the original NES game is pretty important.

I think people forget how hard Ducktails was. I know this new version has been eased up dramatically, but Ducktails was never an easy game.

Doubt it, they'll probably put out one or two more games that nobody wants any more.

I wish they would show Doom 4. I was getting ready to play Doom 1 with the Brutal Doom mod this week and it got me thinking about how Rage came out and nobody really gave a shit.

Duck Tales seemingly has the same problem of flat, plodding dialogue that Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion had. I guess this is what I should expect from Disney games nowadays.

I mean...that's how it was.

I think that Castle of Illusion remake they're doing will be more telling, but yeah. These games, save for chip and dale, were never super fast.

Really like the morning show. Scratches that itch of GB either blowing past news or simply not covering it because it's stale by the time the Bombcast is recorded.

I was surprised they didn't mention the ages of the VAs. I mean, of course they're exhausted, but the fact that they even agreed to be a part of it was pretty awesome I thought. Crashing aside, I think the game looks pretty awesome. I definitely plan on nabbing it at some point.

Just listened to the wrestling podcast. It's pretty damn great. Jared did go a bit too far with his impersonations a few times, but everything else about it was pretty on point.
