TALES FROM MY ASS IV: A wild German appears! +50 DMG to thread privileges

And he got a press release where Sony literally says "We won't be at Gamescom because we screwed up logistics." which is, according to that post, more or less the translation of what he claims to have heard from his boss?

Right, because that's how press releases are usually formulated.
In the linked forum post it says that the PS4 will not be shown AT ALL. And he literally spells out that it won't even be behind closed doors.

Generyx has not written that text. That was Guy. Hence the whole text is quoted. Generyx only confirmed (see title of post).

Well, I didn't see any PS4-boxes yesterday in Deutz but quite a few Xbone-boxes. But given that Watch Dogs and Need for Speed are huge and given how much technical stuff Sony is ordering from us I don't believe they won't be showing it. Also a collegue is personally invited to a PS4-event with hands-on so...

I seriously doubt this, unless the freight ship transporting the PS4s got destroyed by a Kaiju or something.

He is 100 % legit. He might be kidding though but his second statement doesn't leave much room for that. I can see one problem Sony might have to deal with that would keep them away from the showfloor. If they haven't passed all the required certifications for the European Union their PS4s might be stuck at customs. And due to the holiday season they might have no chance to get the paperwork in and through in time.

PS4 already passed FCC certification in the USA while the Xbox One hasn't. I find it hard to believe the PS4 would have more trouble at the customs than the Xbox One.

This is pretty shitty if true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Europe were Sony makes most of it's money? The fanbase is huge!

If anything thing, the PS4 should be priority in the EU over any other territories.

One of the first responses (after "lol" and "Ohoh") in that forum to the original "rumor" post is "somebody should post that on NeoGAF ;)". Just saying...

The claim in the link is that PS4 will not be present at all. So the distinction between press and public is only of academic interest.

The OP says 'it won't even be shown outside the business center' , I took that to mean it won't be shown outside of the press events, and the link I just quoted was press event list.

My mistake then.

I'm curious why you gave this rumor a shot. What sort of credentials does this poster or message board have?

Don't know much about the original source of the rumor, "Guy". But when "generyx", who works for the games department of Saturn (part of the Media Markt Saturn holding of Metro), confirmed it I became curious. And like I said, having stuff stuck at customs is always a possibility. Happens to us citizens all the time to have no access to our stuff for four weeks because of customs regulations, could easily happen to Sony as well. The summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia (which is where Cologne is, which is where Gamescom takes place) run from 22nd of July to 3rd of September. That means there is only a limited workforce at customs and they aren't known to make exceptions. First come, first serve.

Not surprising really. Microsoft overdelivering on value has got Sony worrying. They've hastily put a meeting together to decide whether to include 2 AA batteries.

Hahahaha

Do you know anything about importing into the EU? Honest question.

I find this very hard to believe.

Still, I don't think PS4 will launch simultaneously in Europe along with the US...

Sigh... "Not confident enough in the visual quality"?
Stop being asshats on twitter, people!

It's actually a deliberate plot from Sony. They lower expectations only so that their Megatons will hit harder. Truthfact.

When I worked for a major electronics company and we had such issues, we flew and had those electronics devices on us.

Of course those were smaller devices so you could carry more, but I'm sure every developer can bring their own PS4 on their personal flight, which means the rumor that no PS4 will be at GamesCom AT ALL (which is the claim) is absurd.

Yeah, with the tweet from the guys behind DriveClub its almost cetrain they'll have the PS4 there. And even before that it seemed strange if they didn't have a playable console there, since there where ones at both E3 and SDCC. So yeah, not going to believe this until I see it.
