Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

the Sly Cooper Vita port really disappointed me. The game looks very nice on the PS3, but it looks fairly shitty on the Vita imo.

Note: Not directed solely at you, just musing here:

For a PS3 to be running on VIta, it was fine. You can't expect the same level of graphics; a Vita isn't a portable PS3. :lol
This reminds me of the "Mortal Kombat looks like ass!" sentiment that gets kicked around.
Reminds me of the sentiment earlier in this thread lamenting that the "Vita wasn't powerful enough to do the Gravity Rush concept *justice* and thus a sequel should be on PS3 or PS4." Ugh.

The most disappointing thing about Sly Cooper 4 on Vita was the loading, the draw distance, and the 30fps (max) framerate. There are parts where the draw distance and the framerate drops make it kind of frustrating.

With that said, I spend 90% of my time with the game (working toward platinum(s)) with the Vita version. It's definitely playable and a good effort from the dev. Keeping that in mind, I highly suggest anyone with a Vita and a PS3 buy the PS3 version and take advantage of the cross-buy. Switching between console and Vita is a godsend with this game.

Store update is live, Fruit Ninja can be yours for only $7.99!

Downloading Totori right now only 178 minutes to go... these PSN speeds suck :/ at least the Vita didnt lock this time.

edit: seems Vanwinkle beat me to the exciting news :D

Fruit Ninja released overpriced on Windows 8 as well. But the funny thing was that they had a demo version on the store at launch which, if downloaded (for free) got converted to the full version because they overwrote it with the full version.

I don't know why people buy it even at a dollar. It's super repetitive and boring.

VitaGAF! Has this happened to you?

Its still charging but Im afraid one day it'll stop. I take good care of my cables, I dont know how it just frayed like that....

Im thinking about taping it up some but should I be buying another cable just in case??

Just noticed the same thing on mine today! Bought a replacement cable from monprice for less than 5$.

No. The only cable that ever broke like that was the samsung galaxy tabs 10.1. That cable was so cheaply made, broke off in 2 weeks. Taping doesn't really help.

how do i transfer my save from a cart to a DD version of a game?

Just download the game and the bubble will overwrite and should keep your save, I think.

Ridiculous on the $8.
I'm going to note how long Totori takes for me, if I buy it.
I'm betting it'll be <60 minutes.

purchased Katamari

was hoping that marvel deal was up today. clearly not

Katamari is good.
UMvC3 was clearly marked as next week with Muramasa, etc. SFxT was today, but it moved. :P

Yes. I taped it up good! Still works like a charm.

I'll consider getting a new cable down the road.

Yep. I have the exact same problem. They seem kind of scarce on amazon right now, too... at least if you want free two-day prime shipping.

Guess I'll tape mine up like others have said.

Also yeah, lol @ $7.99 for Fruit Ninja... even I won't buy that. Little tight right now, and I didn't even enjoy Draw Slasher, so I'm sure I won't enjoy this too much.

A digital download of a game should just overwrite the card install, and retain the save file. I've done it a few times with LBPV. There's always the PS+ cloud save, to be on the safe side, if you have it.
Marvels cloud save is weird. If i dont have the cart in, I can't upload it to the servers, and the vita also says I can't earn trophies for it either. As soon as I slap it in though, everything I just said goes away. Same deal with Shinobido. Save copy protection or some jazz?

Woo, just grabbed TMK, I might try to grab Totori Plus. but I want to know what GAF's views on it are (well besides Robert's view)

Ungodly large filesize (like 3.1GB), was physical in Japan and not here, you miss out on the launch-bonus bikinis. Good games though.

It's cause the save is on the cart, not on the memory card.
It was a pain in the ass.
If you have PS+, you can upload to the cloud with the cart in -- get the digital game -- then download the cloud save afterwards.

Not a big loss anyways. Heh.

Well, Totori is great as long as you don't expect deep story..sorry maybe plot is a better word or mind cutesy nature of the game. Vita version looks, pretty much the same as the PS3 one and frame rate is good.

No man. Dat framerate increase.
But really, the crippling 3.1GB stops me from having anything else on my card. Stigma against DD-only localizations aside, that alone is reason enough the game should not have become DD-only. I'd say just pick up the PS3 version.
Also (originally) full-price DD-Only localizations are BS to not support. You will never own this:

On Fruit Ninja;

Dude: 'Hey boss, lets port to vita'

Boss: 'alright, sounds good. We could tap into a new market'

***
Dude: 'sir game is ready to be released!'

Boss: 'alright make sure you overprice it so suckers buy it. That way we can get more money from less people instead of selling more copies for less. If it doesn't sell well... we're already making millions from iOS and we can blame it on shitty vita sales'

GEINIOUZ

Having a shitty story is fine with me and I don't mind the weeaboo look, but is the gameplay actually good for a JRPG?

Heh, even I don't wanna stare at Totori in a bikini suit for 40 hours, it's not evena good bikini! Plus, you can unlock other constumes.

there has never been any mention of any Tales of... games on vita right?

i've always wanted to play some and i think vita would be great for them... that said i do plan to buy that combo pack thats coming to PS3.

I think there are Tales of... games for the Vita in Japan, but knowing Namco, we probably won't get them for another two to three years or we just won't ever get them
:'(

There are already remakes of Tales of Innocence and Tales of Hearts, but Baba's not interested in localizing them.

Just gave the demo for Open Me a shot, it's actually kind of cool. The gimmicks on the third and fourth boxes were pretty neat. I'm tempted to get the full version.

Tales of Innocence
Tales of Hearts R

Won't see them in the US for a long time .. if ever

I wouldn't call the story shitty, it's just not plot heavy. No saving the world, etc.
word weeaboo is making me cry heh

Well as far as gameplay goes, lot of gameplay involves travelling around the over world map, exloring locations to gather ingredients, often figthing through monsters to get to them, and then using those items to make something using the alchemy.

Combat is pretty decent maybe a bit basic, party of 3, turn based, special abilities, items (although only alchemists can use items.

Many actions like travelling, gathering, alchemy and fighting will take certain amount of time (days or just parts of a day), so the game time always moves forward. You get 5 years in total as far as I remember.

If you want my opinion then the gameplay is great but it may not be everybody's cup of tea, I dunno.

Well, Namco is being kinda nice lately. We have Xillia (and it's Multi-5 in EU), and they are going to release Symphonia HD (it's Multi-5 too) and Xillia 2 in 2014. And they bring P4G to Spain. Hopefully they can get some help for Sony and bring their games here. The Vita really needs some good JRPGs and I personally love Tales of... (specially their battle systems)

WOW. I haven't even bothered downloading it on my phone for what I'd assume is free (or close to it). Who are the people who are willing to spend that much on a crappy phone game?

i REALLY hope a vitaGaffer doesn't post saying they bought it. a little bit of me will die and i'll lose some faith in neogaf.
