I honestly think this is to soon...Microsoft will eat them during the Holiday Seasons if this is the case. They might gather some of us early but I think the mass markets will wait. I would imagine that this has to do with supply and allowing them more time to manufacture models for next year. Though it's just a theory.

Actually i think its a good move. All consoles will sell out for both companies on launch day. If PS4 launches in october, they will have a month to stock shelves of the second wave. if microsoft launch in november, they will not have as many consoles to sell come black friday

What reasoning are you using to come to this conclusion?
What units are available for either console this holiday will likely sell through as quickly as they're shipped. However, whichever console comes out first might swing a "day one!" purchase or two one way or another.

First of all, you didn't see the rest of my reasoning and highlighted only what you thought to be a biased attack on the PS4. This isn't against the PS4. This is just stating a theory. Though as someone already pointed out if PS4 is targeting Black Friday to undercut Microsoft this would be interesting.
Can you elaborate on your theory then, I don't quite get it.
Also Sony can target the exact same date as Microsoft and will undercut them if both launch at the announced MSRP.

Is this your first console launch? Launch isn't about mass markets- it's about early adopters and scarcity.
Both Sony and MS will struggle mightily to keep boxes on shelves through the end of the year regardless of whether they launch in October or November. Preorders have been closed for a while for a reason.

A late October release is to get a second shipment BEFORE Black Friday, dude... This maximizes the sales for the holiday. The only possible downside from this move by Sony is that first party devs now have less time to work on their games, which could seriously hurt a game that looks as unpolished as Driveclub.

Exactly!...ill take it a step further...Both Sony and MS will FAIL to keep boxes on shelves...these things will be sold out for weeks(months even) no matter what the launch date is...though being just slightly first (whoever it ends up being might be an advantage imo...
Whoever is first, if they can start to get second shipments of consoles into stores as the other is launching they might have a shot to steal some walk in sales...
But really your chance of walking into a brick and mortar and seeing a PS4 or an Xbone just sitting on shelves waiting to be sold between now and Christmas is very unlikely...
Well at this point your in luck...if you have not preordered a PS4 by now you're likely not to see one that is available for you to purchase for some time after launch...that should help...a little lol

October release would be a bit odd since that's before Watch Dogs and AC4 and CoD Ghosts and Battlefield 4 (among others).
What the fuck is it going to launch with, Killzone and Madden? I can understand Sony wanting to beat Microsoft to the punch and release first, but if they do an October launch it'll have the shittiest launch lineup in history.

We'll all see the state of the launch games at Gamescom.
Killzone: SF certainly is and has been on schedule for months and they have been playtesting and polishing it. DriveClub is obviously further behind but there is a completely new demo at Gamescom in a new location. Can't wait.

It's not like the world would end if a couple titles were releases a week early.
Whether it's October, November or December, you have to realize that they already have to have been manufacturing and boxing the consoles since at least July to ensure decent stock for retailers. Which means the hardware is done, OS ver. 1 is done (since it has to already be installed on the units being boxed now), so the games are the only thing still in development for day 1. Internally, they have to know what the likely target dates are for launch and should be projecting to have their games ready by the earliest date.

If you read more of the guy's post, he specified the week of October 21st. So that's anytime from the 21st to the 27th. BF4 and AC4 both release on the 29th, and Watch Dogs next-gen version is specified to release as a PS4 launch title. So... there's no real wait for titles to come out. Coupled with all the digital F2P titles (especially hype for Warframe) this is an extremely solid launch line-up. Some people really forget how terrible launch line ups usually are. Both PS4 and XB1 look to have some of the most impressive launch lineups ever.

This is going to happen. It's a goddamned perfect storm.
The 21st is odd in the United States. I can see shipments starting on the 21st to launch on the 24th though. Typically unless you're Nintendo, you launch later in the week to make sure all shipments have arrived. You don't want these shipments sitting in warehouses too long in case someone finds out and wants to be a dick. Shipping starting on the 21st to be arriving by Tuesday/Wednesday and launch Thursday/Friday would make more sense to me.

I don't think it has to be as early as June. Manufacturing, yes. Assembly, packing and shipping - probably August so it's happening right now. I know it's a lot of units but aren't those people at Foxconn or whoever is producing PS4 now ready for such events? I think we will see the OS 1.0 at Gamescom but, of course, the first thing I'll do after unpacking the console will be connecting it to Internet for the newest FW. Launch day electronics always has birth pains.
Regarding the date. Sony repeats that "PS4 is coming this holiday". What's your understanding of the word "holiday", US-GAF? I think October would be a bit early, wouldn't it?
Holiday shopping starts right at the start of November typically hitting full stride the week of Thanksgiving/Black Friday. For sure the system will be out before Thanksgiving.
Tretton explicitly called out October, November, December when asked what "holiday" means.
Also for those that missed it: The rumor that it will launch the week that starts on the 21st.

Sure, manufacturers are "ready" but there's always an initial ramp-up with new silicon. Initial yields will be low until the manufacturing process is optimized, so that will impact the volume during the first month or two.
No doubt there will probably be a day 1 firmware update, but v1 will have to have gone gold by now.
Retailers in the US have increasingly been pushing Christmas-related marketing into October over the past several years. Plenty of people start their shopping then. Suffice to say, October counts.
