Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

This is one of stupidest looking walking animations this gen.

It's a shame about the October 1st thing. I was looking forward to free roaming with friends after playing some singleplayer but I guess that will have to wait 2 weeks.

I absolutely love what I am reading:

If your buddy stiffs you on your share of the profit, you can either chase him down and steal it for yourself or keep your hands clean by hiring a hitman to take him out--it's your call. The game even tracks who your rivals are and lets you know when they've come online so that you can exact a little vengeance.

Instead of protecting cars, you'll be able to engage in a bit of lighthearted market manipulation by investing your money in a car manufacturer and running around town destroying every one of those models you come across. Suddenly that company is going to be pumping out a whole lot of new cars. Nice time to be a stockholder, eh?

Beyond little touches like this, you can use your apartment for more practical uses, as well--like getting your friends together to go over the details of a heist in your planning room or keeping a watchful eye on your 10-car garage using a closed-circuit security camera feed. Hell, you can even take a shower to wash off the blood after a particularly brutal mission.

The fact that this is a standalone game, indicates to me that they have had a dedicated team/division on this, which is fucking great.

I know this is free with GTA V copies but will they sell this separately? That'd be so great. I have a few friends who aren't big into GTA but may play the multiplayer. It's looks so good, I can already see myself spending so much time in this.

I somehow fear right now, that we are in a RDR situation where we won't hear from the PC version again - when was the GTA IV version announced? After the console release?

This looks awesome! Looks like it won't be beaten by other open world games for a very long time.

As a GTA fan, I'm struggling to think of any genuine competition.

Heck as a gaming fan I'm struggling.

TLOU? A month ago we were all talking about how nothing could possibly beat it as GOTY...

Don't get me wrong, I hope this is amazing and as deep as the trailers make it, I'm just saying getting too hyped can be a dangerous path.

Love that Rockstar will give us time to play the single player first.

Yeah. I actually kind of like it, even if it is an intentional delay or not, it will be nice to play a good bit of the single player and get to understand the mechanics and discover sweet locations you will eventually want to travel to with friends.

That was the one thing about RDR, I kind of spoiled a lot of the open world playing the multiplayer free roam while also tackling the campaign. The "mexico introduction" didn't have as big of an impact on me as it did for people who went into it fresh.

I hope they bring back "Hide your blimp" feature from GTA IV multiplayer.

You would only show up on the radar if you were in the vicinity of other players. Makes for some great sneaking fun.

This just looks amazing and I can see myself pouring hours into this multiplayer. Now they just need to confirm work on a next gen port and the ability to transfer stats. If they are going to keep expanding upon this mode I don't want to have to keep going back to the PS3.

I assume that private lobbies are still possible? IS it confirmed anywhere?

Otherwise it's going to be a griefer's paradise, fucking up someone elses carefully planned out race or mission.

TLOU? A month ago we were all talking about how nothing could possibly beat it as GOTY...

Uhhh... who said nothing could possibly beat TLOU as game of the year, knowing that GTA5 was coming out a couple months later? EIther people who have zero interest in GTA5/open-world games or somebody who didn't know GTA5 was coming out.

TLOU is my game of the year so far for 2013. But... I wouldn't ever think that it "couldn't be beaten" by anything... Especially with this bomb being dropped in 4 weeks.

Holy shit the content in GTA V is insane. And not to mention now the Online mode is even MORE insane. Oh wow, how did Rockstar manage to do it? It's amazing!

But since now GTA Online is a separate game from GTA V so does it means that it functions like a online MMO or something? I hope that we can access our character or profile in any platform but doubt it's happening though =/

On concern I have (though I'm only theorising, we have no idea yet) is that they will simply pump out the SP and leave it as is, while GTA online will continually get all the new content.
Loved GTAIV's episodes, so I hope this won't be the case.

That feeling when online looks awesome...then the crushing reality sets in that you're more than likely to be playing with 13 or younger year olds screaming into mics, sabotaging things you've set up while your actual friends have conflicting schedules.
