Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

I'm trying not to buy into the hype but, damn, that trailer is making it incredibly difficult not to. This game needs to come out on PC though.

So can someone clarify is this a download that comes with GTAV? Or a separate retail product?

"Access to Grand Theft Auto Online is free with every retail copy of Grand Theft Auto V."

Also:

'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing." Access to GTA Online will come for free with every retail copy of GTA 5.

The four-person team head to the factory, scoping out sentries from afar. The scope for teamwork and co-ordination is impressive. "All clear. Let me know when you're in place", whispers one player. "I've got a guard here", says another, "I'm going in close and personal". He creeps us behind the guard, sinking a knife into his neck - presumably a new close-combat move. We also see some new clambering animations, plus a 'shin slide' down a ladder. GTA Online detects how noisy you are, so you could shout or open fire to distract a guard while a friend sneaks by.

What is real-life, if not GTA V.

Why has nobody done this with a microphone before?

There's no Wii U version.

I don't get all the people who say "please let it be next gen, please let it be pc, please rockstar don't make me buy a ps360 version!!" the entitlement of some of you gamers is insane these days. it's pretty simple: the game has only been announced for ps360, if you want the game, buy it for that console. not trying to attack you guys, but really, this mentality makes no sense to me.

Even though the hype seems warranted here, I hope all you guys that hated GTA IV and are now salivating over this remember than when GTA IV came out it was just as ambitious, if not more so than GTA V. It also had a ton of multiplayer modes that generated an insane amount of hype. I loved GTA IV, and even though this does look better, when a lot of the hype settles I think they might be more similar than some of you guys might think. I’m worried about this being GTA IV all over again when it comes to backlash – mainly from the people that didn’t like GTA IV and are loving the looks of this. I don’t know, just something to keep in mind I guess. Then again I could be completely wrong and this really could be the GTA that everyone wants.

TL;DR: Keep your hype under control and remember what it was like the month before GTA IV landed.

Nope. I have checked GTA IV trailers and all were based around Niko and his mission, without much about the open world aspect and activities.

I mean if we only had the GTA V trailer 1 and 2 then I would agree, but that GTA V gameplay trailer that shows the activities, content and the open world aspect is something we didn't get for IV and shows how much this game offers.
I can't find any IV MP trailers, but to me the MP was, and still is, amazing.

This is just on a different scale.

Is this confirmed?

No, but his reasoning is exactly why companies like MS and Sony pay for their logo to be shown. Because it causes people to think that's the best version.

But I refuse to resub Gold ever again so that makes the PS3 version the best one for me.

I remember the exact same levels of hype for GTA4 and that turned out a disappointment for me. I'll wait to play this one before crowning it. For everything GTA gets right, it's always the wonky stuff that kills it for me.

Is this confirmed?

No but it is usually the case. I can't think of a time a developer showcased the weaker version of a console game.

I think Sony might have just paid R* to show it on PS3 since all the GTA V ads only have the PS3 logo on it.

Yes but they also have a 360 logo...
And I very much doubt Sony paid for them to showcase only the PS3 version. People said the same thing about BF3 and DICE responded by releasing 360 footage.

Not to be that guy, but I really wasn't impressed. So it's basically an alternate campaign, where you create your own character, can play with 15 other people and modify race checkpoints and weapon spawns for death match.

Give me a real, massive, persistent online/MMO GTA l. This an improvement from IV but hardly revolutionary or game of the year/gen/forever, ect.

Wait so this is a separate game to GTA5 but included in GTA5? So they basically made 1 single player game and 1 multiplayer game. Right? That's fucking cool.

It could just be this is the starting point. And that Rockstar will work towards an MMO experience. With of course a F2P model with loads of micro transactions. It makes sense to me.

But it would probably have made more sense to release GTA Online on PS4, Xbone and PC. And release GTA 5 on the current platforms. That way they could expand and update GTA Online for years to come and keep releasing singplayer 'packs' alongside of it.

I'm still pretty confused by the direction Rockstar is going with it I must admit.

.
Yeah, the biggest question mark I have is 'what's in it for them'

I'm not sure from the description if this will be different than just multiplayer but if this is a expansive and connected as they are hyping it as then it took a shitload of time and money and it's free...
So I guess I'm waiting for the hook in this bait.

I really loved GTA4 MP I played lots of it and it was good, stupid fun. So, I'm interested in what they can add to make it a more full experience but as I said every time a GTA comes out R* tends to over talk what they have.

Will the character customization be as broad as Saints Row or is it only White, Hispanic or Black gangbangers that we can create?
I doubt it'll have as many options as Saints Row, but I'm pretty sure I saw at least one female player character in this video (crossing the street during one of the heist scenes I think).

Looks like their making up for what was GTAIV.
I didn't think it would ever be possible but it looks like they just might make it.

And that would be huge achievement, it's all up to the execution now.

Why has nobody done this with a microphone before?

Rockstar did in the past with Manhunt, you could use a OG Xbox mic or PS2 headset and distract/yell at guards by talking into the mic.

Its sorta awe inspiring that GTA V has as an element from Manhunt, that's dedication.

What exactly do they mean by persistent world?

Can I create my own world for a bunch of my friends and then it is always running whenever any of us want to get online and mess around in GTAO? Stuff we've done in the past is always there and has occured? So like an apartment I've bought is always there... even though I might not be online at the time?

Is this confirmed?

From what we know, everything they've shown to the press behind closed doors has been PS3 builds of the game. So either the PS3 is the lead platform or there is no visible difference between the two versions, because they certainly wouldn't want to showcase an inferior version to the press even if Sony paid for some kind of deal (according to some people's theory).

Yeah, Rockstar always seems to apply the past to newer games (like the shooting mechanics from MP3 in GTAV)

I wouldn't be surprised if the tennis mini-game is similar to R* Table Tennis.

The other thing (and the last thing I'll say on PC version, at least for tonight) is that Rockstar haven't completely ruled it out or given us a timeframe, they haven't said it'll be out next year or within a month or anything, which means those of us who would rather play it on PC are stuck in limbo of whether or not to wait. Sucks.

Well we only got story trailers for GTA IV like the character one's for GTA V, and they were pretty similar, but I agree with your general point of view – I just know some others probably won’t.

i wonder how long before the mp is infested with hackers....

I never had a problem with hackers on any console game ( except from COD on the 360), put well over 400 hours in IV MP on the ps3 and 360 and never ran into any.

PC version on the other-hand... it's pretty much stupid to play the MP of IV on the PC without the trainer since everyone has it ( only need it for god mode mainly, or else you are fucked but if someone has the "evil mod" then good luck)

Well, if the PS3 version was inferior, and ran poorly, RockStar isn't going to show it, PERIOD. So I think it is pretty safe to assume the game is running fantastic on PS3 and that is why they are showing it, not because they were paid.

Wait so this is a separate game to GTA5 but included in GTA5? So they basically made 1 single player game and 1 multiplayer game. Right? That's fucking cool.

Pretty much, but I prefer to think of it as a multiplayer world. The scope here demands that it is it's own thing that is going to grow with all of the new content from Rockstar and users alike with the content creator. We are getting two ridiculously packed games with more content to come for the price of one.

Considering all of the footage they've shown is PS3 and free online MP, yeah, for sure. No plans to renew my XBLG anytime soon.

Thats my tentative plan but I'm concerned my BC launch PS3 will burst into flames if I play this as much as I plan to.

Completely with you on that.

I think the DLC we see will probably be for GTA Online. Really wouldn't be surprised if they extended this to a touched up Liberty City from GTAIV as DLC in 6 months.

Thinking more like Mexico or Vegas. Card games, hookers, etc.,
