Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

16 players has disappointed me. Maybe I was expecting too much. I was expecting a MMO like experience with tons of players on line.

You can't expect that from a console generation that is 7 years old at this point. Especially not with the amount of physics that is going on in a GTA game. I still remember how janky GTA 4 (PC, didn't play MP on console) was, only with 3 players in the same game and with <50 ms latency between each player. If you were in a car that was driven by another player there was often a lot of sliding around (clientside prediction stuff I imagine).

I'm a bit disappointed regarding the release date. We already dealt with one delay already but at the end of the day, its just two weeks.

So play the single player while you wait those two weeks. Unless you think the whole game has been delayed by two weeks, its not. The mp launches Oct 1st.

Man, that draw distance and image quality on some of those shots looks like it would make a ps360 melt. What is the consensus here? "Bullshot" type stuff running on a PC/PS4/XB1 for pretty trailers or that is how it will actually look on ps360?

If it was any other developer I'd say no. But Rockstar have a good reputation with this stuff.

Well I don't think we have the proof yet. It would not surprise me at all if they ended up adding transactions to this. GTA is the biggest money maker they have but they have to wait 3-5 years to make that money each time. Continual revenue is the new way to do things and I think we will see it eventually

I think what they're doing is acceptable. You get the free open world with Los Santos and like Benies said in his interview, they'll expand, which is where they'll definitely charge money for a new locale. They'll add new modes/features and make bank.

All this talk in the trailers about "activities" and "stuff to spend money on". Man its like the GTA I was expecting after San Andreas and didn't get with 4.

I'm in.

October?

A game delay or the service?

The GTAO service is launching then. Plenty of time to get the story done, learn the new mechanics, etc.

If the online component isn't playable until a couple of weeks after the release date, then would it be logical to assume that there aren't any multiplayer trophies? Because that would be ace.

I highly doubt it. I'm sure there will be the usual MP trophies and more(probably lots associated with buying cribs, cars, outfits, etc).

Looks neat I guess? As long as GTA Race is back in with the "classic" modes, I'm on board. Easily the best thing to come out of IV's multiplayer.

"In truth, the visuals look a bit less polished than the trailers have led us to believe. Not hugely, but it's noticeable when viewing a guard from distance - they're not as hi-res. To be clear: GTA V and GTA Online look fantastic for PS3 / 360 titles but this is the reality of seeing a game in action, not its manicured trailers."

If players are streaming in and out, like in the Test Drive Unlimited games, it won't feel like there are only 16. I'm not sure if that's how it will work though.

No but it is usually the case. I can't think of a time a developer showcased the weaker version of a console game.

But how do we know we're not seeing a PC or dev kit version? None of the clips I've seen are advertising a specific version so couldn't they even use PS4/XBONE footage if they wanted to?

I'm just being pretty skeptical that it's going to look like that on current gen consoles.

I think it's going to be exactly like in Red Dead Redemption. So yeah, if you're in a public "lobby" then people will be joining and leaving all the time. But you can also be in a private "lobby" where you need to invite other players.

Okay, let me rephrase that. Will they include multiplayer trophies needed to obtain the platinum? Because I just don't see them having trophies in the main list that aren't obtainable from the very start.
We'll figure that out September 17th (or whenever the trophies leak).

Probably not for the reason you said. But then again, this could have its own trophy/achievement list! : O

I just wonder what the reason is for it. Are they not ready but need to get it out by September 17?

Yea, seems like a questionable move.

Personally, I'm alright with it simply because it gives me time to complete the single player without the fear that I'll jump into the multiplayer after everyone has mastered it :D

Not to be that guy, but I really wasn't impressed. So it's basically an alternate campaign, where you create your own character, can play with 15 other people and modify race checkpoints and weapon spawns for death match.

Give me a real, massive, persistent online/MMO GTA l. This an improvement from IV but hardly revolutionary or game of the year/gen/forever, ect.

Do people like you get paid to be so aggravating?

From the interview:

Leslie Benzies: With a lot of these things, we don't see the problems until we actually sit in a big session and play. We've got a thing called Passive mode. If you're spawning and being killed immediately, go to Passive mode - it means you can't shoot people, but they can't shoot you. So you can just kind of hang around and get to grips with the game

I'm curious to see how they handle the lobby system/party invites. Will it be like RDR or something more instanced with event lobbies(like you walk up to an event, it shows a browser, you select the room and then it loads seamlessly into it).

Also, how are they going to handle inviting players into your "world"(ex: two people owning the same crib)?

Man, I’ve got so many games in my backlog and September is stacked for new games, but holy hell are all those other games gonna get bulldozed away when this hits! NOTHING will be in the way of this game!

I love Rockstar games (usually), but a total pet peeve I have is their trophy lists and the huge emphasis they place on playing online modes that I often feel are very... tacked on. If GTA V avoids doing this then I'll be a happy bunny.

"Grand Theft Auto Online is a dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players that begins by sharing gameplay features, geography and mechanics with Grand Theft Auto V, but will continue to expand and evolve after its launch with new content created by Rockstar Games and the Grand Theft Auto community."

So does this mean rockstar will add more detail & locations to GTA Online in the future?

Its a travesty that this isn't coming to pc at launch (or next gen consoles ever)

I predict May next year for PC/PS4/XBO. Or at worst, May PC and Fall PS4/XBO.

I personally don't want to wait that long though and will gladly double dip on a PC version at a later date.

God, I hope we don't get another 'Wanted' (reach the highest rank in multiplayer) trophy/achievement.

It was kind of a nightmare to get and took sooooooooooo freaking long to finally unlock! **shudders**

Yes, they have already said they're going to continue expanding and supporting it after launch. There will be more locations, more missions, more activities, more content, etc. Everything. They'll be paying attention to what people do with the game, what they like, what they don't like, and shaping future content that way. It's an ongoing service.
