Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Has anyone been playing Brawl lately in anticipation for this? I've been getting back into it and it'd be nice to play some online matches soon if anyone's interested.

I think I'm attracted to WFT. She's so... Mysterious.

..and wears yoga pants. :3

Thanks for that interview.

When I read his criteria for new characters it gives me hope for characters like Ridley over things like Dark Samus. His body type, his behavior and attacks in the Metroid series lend themselves to something fairly unique to Smash. I guess his closest comparisons are Bowser and Charizard and more guys like that or a cross between the two would be a welcome and unique addition I think.

Even when it comes to DK characters, I love K Rool but I think Dixie Kong has so much more going for her as far uniqueness goes. She'd probably run around just like Diddy Kong(something Sakurai seemed to be pretty proud of) but the helicopter spin, using her hair like a whip or 5th limb is pretty unique in and of its self. Yes Diddy uses his tail in Smash but no way Dixie's hair would be relegated to the equivalent of Diddy's cartwheel and repeated tail attack. Dixie is all about the hair.

Despite all that I look forward to at least 3 semi clones.

yep, Sakurai has his own criteria for new characters. Im a bit worried because he mentions just how much work it is to add characters so I don't know what to expect. I'm also OK with characters being somewhat similar

The reason DK isn't getting his roll attack is because Namcos rep is going to the The Prince from Katamari whose whole move set is based on rolling.

Sweeping it under the rug by making Super Mario 3D World?

Yes, it seems a goodwill token, but I feel they're going to reference SMB3 all over again, I expect to see that raccoon tail again.

You mean besides this one?

That move is there since Smash N64, I'm talking about a general item from SMW introduced in this smash, given the New Super Mario Bros series and the two Galaxy games as late evidence, they're adamant to propose again SMB3 material avoiding the defining traits of World

Brawl's had it's run with me and I'm happy to put it to rest, losing the disk didn't hurt either.

That being said I have been playing Smash 64 more though. I've even been thinking of picking up a copy of Melee and trying to learn that.

1. Mario got the cape move in Melee. 64 didn't have side special attacks
2. Mario Galaxy 2 is full of World references including many song references and the fact you can ride Yoshi.

  1. My mistake, I've not played the N64 one so I wrongly guessed
  2. Not enough, even in NSMBWii there's Yoshi but is incapsulated in two-three stages, with no chance of getting out. Also the koopas lost their variety of color and the effect of their shell (fire breath, wings, super weight). I appreciated the music though

Also 3D Land is SMB3 3D version, i remeber an interview where the director said that they wanted to reintroduce the Cape then Miyamoto opposed to this in favor of the Tanooki Suit. And even in 3D World i keep to see animal Suits and huge colored blocks with bolts on the edges (characteristic traits of SMB3 overworlds).

Weird. they are different on miiverse and smash page.

AHA i figured it out, her feet are clipping in the one, but not the other. Wonder if they caught the mistake before posting to miiverse and recreated the photo.

I wonder if the mistake was because of the Gamepad streaming tech.

Sometimes when I have uploaded a picture into miiverse notice that the Wii U gamepad its like a frame or two ahead from the TV.

Well, of course they haven't brought the cape back since SMW, it's a horribly broken powerup. The squirrel suit in NSMBU is essentially the cape minus the brokenness.

If Yoshi's Final Smash doesn't scream Super Mario World then nothing will. I was so happy that someone at Nintendo realized how much we loved Yoshi with wings. Why have we not seen a Yoshi with wings in the regular games since?

I'm not too opposed to Rayman, though he doesn't really scream Nintendo to me. Guess that doesn't matter much since Snake got in though.

I miss the rainbow coalition of koopas as well. Those yellow koopa troopa were insane.

In easiness and lackluster level design? :P

World is more likely to kill you than anything else in the series that isn't SMB1 or 2J.

In my extremely humble opinion World 8 in Super Mario Bros. 3 contains the hardest platforming in the series not counting Super Mario Bros. 2: Japanese Edition. I love Super Mario World but that games awesomeness doesn't stem from its difficulty.

8-1 is kind of dangerous and the air force might get a few wrenches in, but the rest of Dark Land isn't anything exceptional. I guess all the autoscrolling can bore you into losing focus.

8-1 and 8-Fortress are devil levels. If I don't beat the game on a play through it is most likely because of one of them.

I associate Rayman with PlayStation more than Nintendo, would be a better fit for Sony Smash Bros. than Super Smash Bros.

Take my Snake, Please.

Sony can have that garbage too.

Hey GAF, first-time poster but longtime lurker here. I recognize a couple of you -- especially IntelliHeath from early MVC3 threads. Has anyone claimed the White Pikmin sprite as an avatar yet?

I'm flattered, so thank you. I can see that you already found the answer. :P

I have been playing Brawl and Project Melee lately. It's still fun.

Yeah, I found it very interesting. His statement about cutting characters and how hard it is to make new characters made me concerned all over again.

After all these years? You kinda suck at Mario 3, don't you?

And lol at calling Snake garbage. I think i know all I need to know about you.

My dislike for Snake and inconsistent SMB3 skills define me as a person. You are correct.

don't be hatin' on solid fuckin' snake

But it's WHO I AM!

Heh, SMW is one of the easiest 2D Mario games by far.

While SMW does have some great levels like Cheese Bridge Area, the majority of levels are pretty basic: http://www.mariomayhem.com/downloads/mario_game_maps/super_mario_world_levels/

I think Super Mario Bros. is easier than Star Road which isn't saying much.

I like the balance of exploration and platforming in Super Mario World but I would agree that it does make some levels seem more open and less difficult.

every game ive seen of rayman have all been on nintendo console, only one or two i dont think isnt and this is what i think btw, is the old 2D rayman games, which was also on PC, i know cause i had it on PC rayman's pretty agnostic otherwise

Disgusting opinions that make brains vomit.

NOW Gamer article said:
We’re really hoping Snake, Toon Link and the Pokémon trainer still makes the cut alongside the Nintendo regulars (Falco, Lucario and Lucas, we could live without) – but the issue for Sakurai seems to be one of time.

Terrible.

*picks up mic*

Snake is stupid.

*places mic back on stand*

I wouldn't be too broken up if Snake gets cut, but he's fun, and Metal Gear is absurd enough for Smash to begin with.

Heh, SMW is one of the easiest 2D Mario games by far.

I've spent the last couple weeks playing through most of them again. SMB3 has trouble getting any hits in (which makes even 3J's more punishing damage irrelevant), and the NSMBs are all trivialized by their comparatively slow pacing and abundance of powerups. World's the only one from 3 on where the enemies have a fair shot at killing you occasionally.
