Persona 4 Arena Sequel Announced [Japanese arcade-only update for now]

I sympathize with his feeling, but it's dumb.

I mean, it's just a downer if you're not interested in Arena because even though it's not the Persona Team (Although like I say, Soejima will have spent - what, a few weeks at least? - working on it), it's a new game that isn't the one you want, but it's close enough that it still stings.

When you've been waiting for something for a long time, and someone says "HEY! HERE IT IS....N'T" then it's pretty demoralising.

Lovers arcana, game constantly pairs you two together, she takes his death the hardest in The Answer.

There were hints during P3 that she was the "girlfriend". Like at
Yakushima beach and she's also the default choice for the summer festival and Christmas.
And Aigis didn't even have a SL or dating option in the original P3, prolly cause the idea of being in a relationship with a robot was too weird.

Also her behavior in the Answer really only makes total sense in the context of her being the "canon" girlfriend who was dating Makoto. Or at the very least just very in love with him.

I always go with Yukari, but I know if I picked Mitsuru or Fuuka as the gf, I would have been kinda disappointed by their reaction in the Answer, since they didn't seem as affected as Yuka-tan. Yukari (and Aigis, obviously) just seemed the most close to Makoto.

I don't know, it didn't seem like the game built any sort of a relationship between them unless you made the game do it whereas Aigis' relationship was built regardless. Also Lovers Persona doesn't seem to mean anything in the context of the games.

Aigis' relationship with MC looked more platonic to me, Elizabeth seems the most canon to me, she's still trying to free him. And

Its implied we do some naughty things at the end of her requests

Elizabeth seems like a decent candidate for canon love interest, this is why I questioned Yukari but not your other post.

Much like the Persona 4 anime and Persona 4 Arena, I don't think there's a "canon" love interest. Elizabeth, Aigis and Yukari (and maybe Mitsuru) certainly had certain dedication towards him, but there's nothing official.

Yeah it's not so much that I think Aigis is the canon love interest (Although I think she has the strongest argument in her favor, with Elizabeth being a close second) or that I think there even necessarily is one. It's more that I don't really get why people would think it's Yukari as the game doesn't seem to suggest it at all unless you do her social link.

I never finished Persona 3, but I see people saying that Junpei's motivations and reasons redeem his behavior... what's there to redeem? In the hours of the game that I played, from the instant he was introduced he was the best character!

Yukari looks a lot like Ms. Toriumi
Yeah, her new portrait makes things even more suspicious. When I was playing P3P I was convinced she was secretly Ms. Toriumi's daughter or something, lol.

Yaaaay more Persona! Guess P4A must have done well sales wise. I hope this means Persona 5's announcement is imminent...

His redemption and maturation goes full circle in The Answer, which most people didn't play.

You might not have played enough to see him become a very jealous and angsty person towards the leader of the group. What makes him mature past that is part of his redemption arc.

I still have this crazy idea that all the trailers released so far are a bait and switch and that the movie will be about the female MC instead. :3
;_;

She doesn't exist.

That is such a cop out though. She is also an interesting character brimming with personality.
Such a shame to have such a cool character go away to be able to reborn a blank slate that was not that interesting in the first place.
Maybe the anime will change my mind, but still, I would say he is the worst Persona MC, maybe Pierced Boy of P1 is a little bit less interesting.

Well he's a silent protagonist he's whatever the player makes of him
I saw him as myself so that's probably why I like him
but to each his own, and of course I don't want Liz to just die something has to build up with her to that point she's clearly loyal enough to MC to do it though, and whether it be the anime or him making a come back I'm sure he'll get some sort of character development.

That's fine. Proper logic would be to analyze the situation and understand why. There's no point in knocking on Arc's door with P5 queries and ditto Atlus holding them back because Hashino's team isn't ready.

This would be the best bait and switch ever, but pretty much everything in the Persona universe is hetero-normative to a fault.

I never play the Persona MC's as myself, I play them as characters. Not saying it's wrong though, its just how I do it. I do play some of the other Megaten MC's as myself. I played the Strange Journey MC as myself, and the SMTIV MC as a long lost relative to the SJ guy, even though he actually has a canon name, Flynn.

It's not about understanding why. The game only came out three months ago here, it's a surprising "feeling" to hear about Arena 2 already when you've been waiting for Persona 5 forever, not much more to it.

Nobody is knocking at Arc's door.

Actually I rarely do it, P4MC is Yu Narukami and all SMT protags are by canon name (including Flynn), I usually decide that on whether I want to connect with the characters in that game more personally.

Some of the whining in this thread is dreadful. Got damn son I can't believe dudes expected P5 out of a fighting game clearly made for fan service.

Yep, having the facts straight is completely irrelevant. You should just allow your feelings to be colored on a dime and ignore reality. Sure.

Nobody knows what P5 is. What happens if the story of P4A 2 is a lead up to P5 or this is just the beginning of announcements to come.

It's not about understand why they have to release Arena 2 that's irrelevant to my first feeling.
I have nothing against Arena 2, my "initial reaction" was disappointment that it wasn't info about Persona 5, yet it was a sequel to a game that came out three months ago. That's all the facts I need for a quick reaction post.

What else is there for me to understand? I don't care about the business side of Arena 2 and so on, that's irrelevant.

Euuughh I give up.

*shrug* You mentioned logic, so that's where I took the debate.

Your logic is about defending Arc.

My logic was about my initial feeling = Disappointment that it's news about a sequel to a game that came out three months ago, rather than a news about a sequel to a game that came out almost 5 years ago.

You're just posting your gut reactions and incorrectly throwing around the term "logic". I don't care about Arc. They've made one game I actually own: P4A. I'm asking you to think about this logically, because when you do, it makes perfect sense why this has been announced before P5 and it comes down to one simple detail: ASW is not Team Persona.

Come on now.
Yeah, I know, "Euro bullshit" and all, but saying P4A was released "three months ago", come on...

Nah. Pink Ranger son (never played P3)

It is Phoenix Ranger Featherman R. It started in P2 and had some story significance there. It carried over into Persona 3, 4, 4 Arena, and now this game. It is one of the many small, neat P1/2 and 3/4 connections that only people who played both know about. Small, but awesome that they are still going! Every party member has a Featherman outfit in Persona 4 Golden.

Back to the more important things - Mitsuru > Yukari.

My reaction was logical based on being disappointed about getting this news before Persona 5. Yeah it makes sense that Arc is already planning another game, it still doesn't mean I can't be "slightly" disappointed that we get this news before Persona 5.

Let's hug and pack this up already.
Edit:
Sure thing. Simple misunderstanding.
Yaaaay!

I have a headache now lol.

I live in the UK, it was released three months ago.
I live in France, and the game was released a year ago on consoles. IN JAPAN.
This is a japanese announcement, right there, so it's normal they care about japanese release dates. The euro debacle is sad and all, but you can't just take the release date that helps your point the most.

Yeah that's pretty cool. Thanks for the trivia

Dantis on suicide watch.

I actually think it will. Did you not read my thoughts on the Community Thread?!? ;)

I think it will be indirect though. I think a sequel to Arena proves what most of us already suspected: That Hashino will do his own thing.

My point was based on my POV, it was released three months ago here, so because of that "Arena 1 was still fresh in my mind", Arena 2 wasn't even on my radar. I was expecting any sort of tease from Persona 5 by now at least (I thought for sure we would get something last year even). Arena 2 info makes it painfully clear that I still haven't got any info about Persona 5 after all the waiting = disappointing feeling.

We should get Persona 5 info soon anyway, might be before TGS or at TGS (mid September, only 1 month away)
