Persona 4: Revival Announced - Xbox/PS5/PC/GamePass

I still don't understand why Atlus games receive the spotlight in places where their user base doesn't reside..
Microsoft money, plus potential new fans from the Xbox fanbase. Honestly, from a Sega perspective, it's smart business. Nothing wrong with trying to grow your customer base.

Because Xbox is desperate to let people know that Japanese games release on Xbox as well so they pay for the marketing rights and ability to announce them at their shows. Atlus is also part of SEGA which has been a supporter of Xbox since the very beginning.

On the Atlus/SEGA end of things I'm sure they like the extra money from Microsoft on top of the Game Pass money because they will still get the majority of their sales from PC/PS.

So many Ls here it's not even funny.

L title. "Revival"? You had Rewind, Redraw, Reboot, AND ReGilded and you went with Revival??

L showing. Yu's running animation is crazy in 2025. And are you seriously going to hide the other characters as if we don't know exactly what they're going to look like? It doesn't even look that great visually.

L development status. Not even a year is absolutely nuts. This must be pretty early in dev, which is a disaster for Persona 6. If this shit isn't even in the clear for next year, P6 isn't going to come out by the end of the gen. Here I thought we were done skipping whole gens with Persona. Who do Atlus think they are? This isn't GTA.

They showed fuck all in the trailer, but I'm still excited. Loved Persona 4 once upon a time, and I'm sure I'll still love it now. But as a couple people pointed out, I definitely didn't get the gloom I would hope to see from a P4 remake. I'm sure it'll be there - it literally has to be - but yeah. I just wanna see more, dammit.

I hope it comes out sooner rather than later, but I'm obviously buying this day 1 whenever it does finally drop.

i like P4 and i hope P6 will come soon too, but i'm also wondering about SMT VI if they started development for it.

Frankly zero hype for this. I finished recently P4 on the Switch and I don't see any need for a remake.
Noticed it hasn't been announced for SW2 even if all the latests Personas are on Switch, I'd guess they want to let Nintendo announce it in some later direct.

Persona 4 wasn't ALWAYS gloomy and foggy so I'm sure it's still there.

Another remake means that Persona 6 won't be out next year, and most likely not 2027 either. Yikes.
Hate using 'yikes', but this was just needed.
It is damn ridiculous and I can't help but think that the studio is in a creative and a development rut.

Yeah, the future development should have been P6 being developed for last 4-5 years, but it looks like P6 is going to be PS6 cross-gen game at this point.

P4 was originally released on PS2 when PS3 was already out.
P5 was released when PS4 was already out and was cross-gen with PS3. It follows a pattern.

P6 will be the biggest game they will release and it will be easy for them to fuck it up if they are not careful. That being said, remakes and remasters are safer projects.

If P-Studio has a shortage of developers, yes, Persona 6 is not coming soon. But if it is well-managed and Atlus can tackle two simultaneous projects, we may see P6 annoucement in the next few years.

We just got off of SMTV & Metaphor and Raidou is coming. Unless you specifically want Persona, where the protagonist tries to bang everyone all the while the townspeople come to him for all their emotional drama. That and you're probably looking at 2028. You don't really want the first release of the newer persona games, then get rugpulled to play the same thing with the Golden/Royal/etc release. So maybe 2029, 2030. At least Atlus remembered my boy Raidou

Persona 6 doesn't need to be some cutting edge game. It does need to be a creative shot in the arm though. I have no confidence that the correct amount of attention will be going to P6 if they're basically conceiving it in parallel with developing this.

I was trying to tell Mibu no ookami Mibu no ookami and many others that this habit of remaking shit between projects was coming at a cost.

I'm not sure what you think Persona development consists of.

Do you think writers are rewriting Persona 4 over again instead of working on Persona 6?

Do you think art direction is being focused on here? Like, not really sure why you're convinced a simple remaster is this huge burden.

Only 172 people credited with Persona 3 worked on Persona 5. Only 141 on Persona 5R. That's out of 578 people professionally credited.

Looking forward to this since I never played the original P4. I'm glad I waited now.
Happy to get this before P6 so that whenever we finally do get it then I'll be "caught up" with the series by then.

I'm looking forward to this, but I gotta agree: that was a very weak trailer. Persona 3 Reload had an abundance of style in its trailers from what I remember. This one seemed more like showing the bare minimum to prove it exists.

Assuming the released game is actually going to be a banger like P3R was.

Looks either kinda cheap or early in production. In any case, not really interested in anything Persona unless it ends in a 6.

The thing they showed in the showcase wasn't even a trailer. And the small amount of running from Yu seemed off. I believe they are really on pre-alpha stage.

That is interesting because the rumour of this remake is floating for a long time. And I thought they were entered the last phase or at least reaching the last part of middle phase of development. But it seems my guess was far far off.

141-172 too many.

The music still hits hard. I don't think we'll see this any time soon as what was shown in the trailer looks...early...to be charitable. If the rumors are true about the English voice cast being replaced, that's going to be a tough pill to swallow. At least Golden is still easily playable on all modern platforms.

I'll get it if there is lots of new content. But I'm not going to rebuy it just for "Persona 4 but in Unreal".

Same here.

I assumed that the P4 Remake announcement would be similar to the P3 one: Announced with a release date a couple of months later.

Judging by what we saw today, I'd say we're at least a year, if not longer, away from release, unless Atlus gives us a longer trailer with gameplay footage pretty quickly.

Also, most of the stuff revealed today gave either a specific release date or said "Coming 2026." This did neither. Could we be looking at either holiday 2026 or early 2027 for this?

Same. The trailer was nothing but the music... immediate nostalgia!
I played the original P4 on PS2 but have never actually played Golden, despite owning it on PC for awhile now. Really getting the itch to play, especially given that the remake doesn't look to be releasing anytime soon.

Highly likely. I don't hold my breath for earlier than that. It would be really surprising if they release the game early based on what they didn't show at all.

I didn't play the original, just the Golden version on Vita. One of my GOAT. I'd go for it but if you plan to play this new version, then you should wait and maybe dive in your backlog of other games.

I wanted to play P4G again for sometime but after the rumours I cancelled that plan. I cannot play story driven games in short times. At least 4-5 years (or much more) need to pass for me to play them again. This game will probably be released in 2 years time so I'm okay with the waiting.

They recasted the english VA actors. This game is going to be the equivalent of watching Evangelion on Netflix.

Eh. Persona 3 Reload was also completely recast. It turned out perfectly fine. They'll probably get cheaper voice actors who sound similar, the original cast has a lot of famous names now who'd probably ask for much more money, more than Atlus's small budgets for these games.

I'd call that a teaser, not a trailer.

I love the original P4. P3Reload was a good remake so I'm hopeful, but the 2008 original P4 waded into a lot of modern political minefields with its characters.

I'm very interested to see whether those characters and the story will remain true to the original classic or if they'll be sacrificed to please mentally ill political extremists.
