Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

What's the word on Rocketbirds? My backlog of Vita stuff has been whittled down to Persona 4, Muramasa, and Dragon's Crown, and I'm looking for something that's a little less involved to blow through in between heavy gaming sessions. Besides Machinarium, I think I've purchased and completed every other game I could possibly be interested in. Except, maybe, for Rocketbirds. Is it worth $10? Is it a GOOD game, or just sort of a tepid distraction?

haven't played but iirc - more of an average/good run and gun. I believe VanWinkle played it and posted for a week or two about it when it was first out. he'd have a more hands on impression with it.

If someone was to announce Phantasy Star Online 2, officially, finally, for NA localization, I don't care if Vita never gets another game - I'd be happy with my purchase. For me, that's like limitless play value. SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Same. I'd never need another Vita game again.

famousmortimer's tidbit about Sony ramping up internal teams to help with localizations gives me some hope. But considering games like One Piece and Samurai and Dragons (the latter also a Sega title) have already been 100% translated with nary a peep on localization, I don't have much hope.

Also, are you sure you hadn't already created an EA account for another game at some point? I understand your frustration though, there's another Fasty out there taking all my usernames. Even accused me of stealing his username on YouTube! I've had this nonsense since the dawn of Hotmail I'll have him/her know!!

Welcome to the NFS club. Extremely weird about the name though....but any event, with all these gaffers that got NFS lately, a group drive needs to be organized.

Hmmm, come to think of it, *maybe* at some point I did create an Origin account... but for the life of me I just cannot remember. Ah well, that means I own both LaughingBanana and LaughingBananas, hahaha.

Not a big deal, though, since in the game my name shows up as LaughingBanana anyways.

Also, agreed with Baron; we need to arrange some driving together in Most Wanted sometimes (I suck at driving games though! need practice, hahaha)

I played the demo for Soul Sacrifice and I really enjoyed it. I liked how the missions weren't too long

I think I might buy it

The encounters get longer the further you get in the game. If you are primarily divine you might be spending an hour on a fight if you are playing solo. With that said though the game is brilliant. Tons of content to keep you busy, plus a good load free DLC.

Is there anything i should look out for when buying a cheap third party Vita USB cable? (like this one). The outer plastic is coming off mine at the USB end and exposing the strands of wire inside. It still works, but I wouldn't mind getting a new one just in case it gets work and stops charging, but I'm reluctant to just use a cheap one off eBay in case it could cause any problems? The official ones are something like £8.99 on Amazon though, which is absurd.

On the topic of Gamescom, I'd be happy with a Gravity Rush 2 announcement (though that might be more likely at TGS I suppose) and a price drop on memory cards (preferably with the announcement of larger capacity ones as well), but hopefully there'll be some other nice surprises like Tearaway last year.

wat
15 minutes was like my hard cap, no way
Soul Sacrifice is definitely my GOTY though.

RE: Revolution was supposed to be the handheld RE title and it was released on 3DS.

I still can't understand why Capcom didn't release RE: R for VITA since it runs on MT Framework Mobile, which is already working perfectly fine on VITA with titles like UMVC 3 and SFxT. Their loss IMO.

Wrong, don't you remember? Re vita would have been different from the other and made by slant six(or another western developer), the game was clearly re operation racoon city, not revelations.

It's so incredibly moronic to NOT release the Revelaitons on Vita. My mind, it is boggled. Seriously, you're porting it to everything else imaginable, how difficult would it have been to toss a bone Vita's way. And regardless of its disappointing performance thus far, you're still eliminating, what a couple million people, people who are starved for high quality games. And there's really nothing on the hardware that's quite like RE, unless you count the PSone downloads... Even if you only made it available digitally, how could it hurt? I know this has probably been discussed ad nauseum, but I'm continually flabbergasted by some of the decisions developers and publishers make. These are simple, no-risk no-brainers that people continue to screw up.

Yep. It's confounding that games like Project Diva and One Piece that already have English translations on PS3 aren't being released even digital-only on Vita. Literally peanuts in licensing costs, and zero in distribution costs.

And iOS ports like GTA, Soul Calibur, Deus Ex would make absolute bank on Vita, yet nary a peep despite the nearly identical chip architecture of Vita and iPhone 4S. So much money left on the table, for no one's benefit.

If you are mostly save yeah it can take a while. Sac you can mow through shit.

Level 100 save reporting. Has a lot to do with your sigil choices, I went for a (redundant) aggressive save build. Multi-element lockdown with high level sigils can kill very quickly. Solo defense build would be kind of weird. Hope if they make a sequel it isn't as black and white as defense/attack.

Not really worth it in my opinion. Plays like a flash game (think Shank) but has a really awesome soundtrack. Then again, some people actually enjoyed Shank so wtf do I know.

I've got a question of my own: Ragnarok Odyssey worth getting?

I have SS and I was wondering this too. I was thinking of just waiting for The ACE version.

No.wait for ACE

IIRC, Capcom didn't want to port it over to the Vita due to "you won't get the true horror experience on that Vita's screen, it needs to be on a larger format"

Ahh, fair enough. Yeah a full defense build for soloing is pretty silly. Although it would feel kind of cool being a such a tank.

Implying it was a mistake to make it for the 3DS in the first place?
WiiU Gamepad support =/= big screen?
Resident Evil developers caring about horror?

That excuse makes no sense.

But crapcom is a poor excuse of its former self... Killing all their good franchises with mobile shit

And yet they had the 3ds version of revelations and mercenaries and also the old DS got its own version of resident evil
And the ios iphone versions of resi 4 and its own mercenaries game and degeneration

Yeah capcom, sure whatever

It is just an excuse. The reason is obvious that they have a handheld exclusivity deal with Nintendo. Also no reason for monster hunter on to be exclusive to the 3ds. A vita version will surely make money after all. But that is capcom for you.

I feel pretty alone in my opinion but I fucking love Rocketbirds. At first it seemed like it would be a game full of juvenile humor in poor taste, but drew me in and took a more serious, balanced turn. The use of story, music and worldbuilding is powerful and very meaningful, to me. Solid 2D visuals, it keeps a good sense of levity and humor, plays well... mechanically and stylistically I want to call it Metal Slug, Oddworld and Halflife 2 all mixed together.

Please don't let those name drops oversell you, though. I'm in no way putting it at GOAT status, but it was one of the most enjoyable games I've played this gen, personally, and when I played through it on Vita I definitely felt I'd slept on the original release, big time.

The reason Capcom didn't put RE Revelations on Vita is really quite simple: They just didn't want to.

Obviously they're not just gonna come out and say that. They're not that one knob from Codemasters.

I bought two more Vitas at the airport... They are just beautiful pieces of hardware

Keeping one of each color and selling the others

So glad my PS Vita backup restored perfectly 4 months later. Time to get back to Hotline Miami and order Dragon's Crown!

I picked up at 3G model for $200 today. I love the hardware, and even the OS is surprisingly snappy (though I think the Go Stones icons are silly). The store also is much better to look at than the PS3 ver., but downloading, or anything to do with the network is giving me such a hassle right now. No matter if I let it go to sleep on its own, or just tap the power button, the a download will eventually pause. I've been trying to download Gravity Rush for the past 4 hours. Even when it is downloading its so slow. Ugggggggggh.

Otherwise I want to give it hugs and kisses on the forehead.

I'm about to get Soul Sacrifice, someone tell me why I shouldn't get it

Because it's so good it makes playing other games less enjoyable.
Because you'll slack on more important tasks to play more because of how fun it is.
Because you'll be upset at yourself for ever questioning buying it.
Because you don't like monster hunting games.

I've actually never played Monster Hunter, lol

My Gamescom Vita Bingo-card picks, Over Ambitious oh well

Tell me about it.. I tried to wrap my head around the idea but I can't find any logical reasoning behind it. Capcom have shown the MT framework engine running on the vita so porting shouldn't be that difficult. Its mind boggling. Same thing with NBA2K12 which was released on the PSP instead of the vita.. like I cannot think of anyway pubs could lose in both cases. Its just unfathomable. Same thing with Sony themselves; LBP karting should have also been give the PSABR treatment and ported to the vita but that never happened. GOW: A should have also been a vita game but oh well.. beating a dead horse.

Cautiously excited for Gamescom

I loved the Monster Hunter series. I probably spent over 500 hours on the MH series. I specifically bought a 3DS XL for MH3U (but nothing else on 3DS excites me).

Having said that, I tried out the demo to Soul Sacrifice, but I just couldn't get into the game. So I'll say try the demo first.

i am in the same boat as you with monster hunter. i absolutely love it but soul sacrifice i find to be very good as well thanks to its fast pace and the variety of the offerings you can use. i also love playing online with a handheld which you cant do with MH3U on 3ds

Another game that I think is an obvious fit - Bastion. I know the game's a little long-in-the-tooth at this point, ports of three-year-old games aren't going to sell any systems, but with Transistor announced for PS4 (and possibly Vita), what better way for Supergiantgames to build momentum than to get their first game on the platform. It's a perfect match. I'd love to have Bastion on the go, NOT on my iPhone or iPad. But it won't happen, because it makes too much sense. :(

Will you make your money back on the 4 just by selling 2 of them?

So! Disgaea 3 from US PSN is 39.99 (WTF)

I have someone here wanting to sell me his Disgaea 3 cartridge for only around 22-23 bucks, which is a steal compared to the digital price.

However, it is region 3. Now, considering that from what I heard Disgaea 3 Vita already included all the DLC, I shouldn't be worried about me getting locked out from some DLC from PSN if I get this region 3 Disgaea 3, right?

Anyone can clue me in for this?

There is no DLC for Disgaea 3, so it's safe to import it.

As we are speaking of games we wish to have on the plattform:

What are "perfect gameplay, no-story-games" that you can play again and again and that you would like to see on the Vita.

Never going to happen, but I would literally pay 100 € for a proper Trials HD Port. Velocity Ultra will go in this direction for me I think. But I think there are too less pure&perfect gameplay games in today. Geometry Wars would also be great. Dunno why but I didn't like Stardust.

Same situation on every console, but especially on the Vita, what would you like to get?

The DLC was for ps3 which is part of the actual game now on PS3, so no need to worry.

It was free PS Plus game recently and goes on sale every once in awhile, if you are patient it will come down again, about due.

Beat Dragons Crown with my dwarf tonight
found out it continues on with hard mode with slight story continuation, pretty cool idea instead of just making difficulty changes

So I will probably shelf this for a bit and go into Muramasa or NLKS when I buy them this week or maybe SS from last week. Decisions, decisions. The time keeps ticking down to KH HD 3 weeks away taking up all my time before holiday onslaught. My backlog will not survive after that.

Started playing Dokuro the other day, I must say I'm not enjoying it all that much.

The gameplay feels clunky, looking after another character is always annoying, and the cutscene comics drag on forever and say nothing at the same time...
