Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Totally get you.

He needs to find his own niche. He's Man's apprentice, and it shows. He'll be fine, I think.

i think when he gets his own following and settles in he'll be fine.

i did watch baertaffy's run last night (daily event). man that guy has his strats down pat.

over 1M on the daily, #1 spot.

BUY SPELUNKY OR ELSE!!

A co-op mode that's supposed to be a lot of fun, too. I'm not 100% but I think it might be only adhoc, though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Beyond the Co-Op, it also has a fun VS mode. It's Local Only on 360, but did they make it online on PS3/V? Haven't heard.

At any rate, it's akin to a sidescrolling Bomberman MP match. It's pretty fun, and a worthy part of an already fantastic package.

----

No one should doubt Spelunky being worth "all teh moneyz". It's one of the most mechanically-refined, fun 2D games in recent memory, has great music, and multiplayer Co-Op and VS feel great together.

The random has enough rules to where it feels like "an army of solid stage design" rather than "jumbled junk that's tossed out to artificially increase playtime".

And the HD art actually manages to meet or surpass the charm of it's old pixel-origins, unlike many other games, which lose much in the process. There's a nice organic nature that keeps the tiles from being super-repetitive, and the characters personality within their few little animations try a lot harder than your average "one step above flash" 2D now-a-days.

Add crossbuy atop all of that, and I'd assume the inclusion of the DLC Characters and VS Stages that were released on the XBLA version a while back, and you have quite a bargin...

I'm gonna be so broke :(

Slightly off topic, but I'd absolutely love to see the XBIG game "one finger death punch" come to vita. Apparently it has sold really, really poorly on XBIG which is a huge shame (https://twitter.com/sdgames/status/368728366951591937).

Freaking amazing game and it'd be brilliant on the vita screen with it's practically instant response times.

Yeah, it'd be great on Vita. It'd have little issue getting onto PS Mobile, but a Native Vita release would be all the better!

It's amazing how much content a simple game like it manages to have.

ecstatic would be an understatement at this point.

i'ma try to get a bit better at the PC version so i can decimate anyone on my friend's list at release time.

I'm pretty pumped too - between Sir, You Are Being Hunted in about.. 2 hours on PC, Gamescom tomorrow and Spelunky next week.. I'm at a loss!

You know what indie game would be awesome on Vita? Bastion. It's an oldie, but I had a ton of fun with the iOS version, which sold pretty well IIRC.

I wish Spelunky was this week.
I also wish I had a bigger memory card.
Need to finish the platinum for P4G so I can delete it and make room for other games... :\

if i were to drop SH:BoM for this... I'm doing it right... right?

Doing it right is buying both.
But if you're only going to choose one, I guess it depends on if Spelunky gameplay is up your alley... if it is, then yes, putting the $7.50 from SH:BoM toward Spelunky is not a bad idea.

Gonna buy Divekick, Spelunky and DF II. Not yet sold on Kickbeat.

If they did something like "buy all game, get $10", gonna buy all 4.

Is the studios new game gonna have a vita release? I think it's Transistor or something...I could have sworn I thought it was (or wishful thinking)

Only announced for PS4 and Steam so far, I think. Though considering Bastion did well on iOS, that could get a port too. Since it's coming for PS4, I don't think it's impossible for Vita to get a port too. I'm getting that game on any platform day 1 though, Bastion is sweeet.

Call of Duty bundle with 4GB stick or 3G with no game and 8GB stick? Same price.

Same difference -- depends on what CoD sells/trades for, I guess?
4gb vs 8gb is pointless. Most likely, if you're doing it right, you'll be low on space before you can blink. 3G is also useless.
I'd probably lean toward CoD+4gb, personally.

GOD yes,but thats my personal opinion, i tried to get into SH but it feels so barebones

You're doing it wrong!

a date is really good enough for me, but yea. of course

who wouldn't want to be saving damsels tomorrow at work?

At least the date is soon! Plus a PS+ discount!

played some more jak & daxter last night. it's definitely playable, so far at least. it's a bit painful when you move the camera a lot. it's a shame that it runs like that, but i guess we can blame naughty dog for making an amazing ps2 game that is so specific to the ps2 hardware.

I don't even have DF1 :/ gah

Technically, that's exactly what the PS+ Discount is getting you; buy all 4 on their release week, save a total of $10 ($40 for all 4, rather than $50).

I deleted it off my memory card. It was hard to do, but I was just so disappointed with the port. I was hoping they would patch it, but that doesn't seem like it will be the case. Oh well. :(

Divekick looks like a bag of fun, so I'm definitely buying that. Spelunky looks well-made, but frustrating as balls based on the GB Quick Look. Kickbeat looks like a game that's fun for all of five minutes. The last game is on the wrong side of retro tributes as far as source material goes.

Divekick it is.

but a cashback like that PLAY promotion would be awesome

any idea of the price of the other games?

Why vita's battery doesn't last forever? Why it had to interrupt my dragon's crown session? :'(

I guess it's the only way to take me away from dragon's crown...

Anyway i'll buy spelunky, even if i'm not so sure it's for me, i tried the pc version and i was not convinced, but on vita everything is better XD

Spelunky's items from shops active patch "frustration" with "well, dying like that was my own fault!" once you learn to play. I found my annoyance came from bad-planning as I got good at the game, whereas it started off with "Why is there ALWAYS a man-eating plant JUST where I fall?!?" or "ALWAYS A SPIKE PIT!!!" There's real method to it's madness, and part of the fun of the game is learning this methodology.

I've no idea why people think Kickbeat won't be long-lasting fun. A Rhythm game with an action bend to it? Sounds similar to Bust a Grove, in that it'll actually be fun to watch, as well as play, which is more than I can say for many modern Music + (something) fusion games.

but a cashback like that PLAY promotion would be awesome

any idea of the price of the other games?

It'd be a good month to do a "Spend X, get X amount back" promo, for sure. Especially with Pirate Musou 2 also releasing soon...

I think you mixed Divekick and Kickbeat. Divekick is the one that looks like it's worth five minutes and a couple of lols, but Kickbeat as a rhythm game will definitely have some legs if it's at all fun to play & polished.

It looks like a nifty twist on the presentation of rhythm games. The feature that has me really interested is the ability to import tracks. That alone could allow for endless hours of fun if the core gameplay holds up.

Speaking of endless: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/08/19/kickbeat-never-ends-how-to-make-your-own-kickbeat-tracks/

Seems like SP is short but this feature makes up for it. Its gonna be interesting to see kung fu action going on with music from lets say Daft Punk or Gorillaz.

Word.

Nonetheless, everyone's got different tastes and the great thing about these upcoming releases is that they're covering a large range of them.

Me either man - it'd be like that guy a couple of pages back LITERALLY crying over people thinking Thomas Was Alone is better than the worst game in the entire Knytt franchise!
Crying? LITERALLY?
Lol.
No matter how underground ranks among the knytt games, being worse than thomas was alone is a very hard task that knytt underground luckily failed big time.

You didn't half have a right whinge about it - I thought Knytt was ass, some people didn't. I thought Thomas was good, some people didn't. I don't need to have a little rant about people not agreeing with me ;)

Eh, I enjoyed TWA and found Knytt so boring as to be physically painful. Different strokes and all that.

The learning curve is similar to Dark Souls, in that, at first you might be put off by the difficulty of the game, but as your knowledge grows, the game becomes easier and easier.

There are maps that are more difficult than others in terms of obstacles required to traverse before reaching the goal, but the game is definitely doable.

Oh, Dark Souls comparison was all I needed.

Divekick and Spelunky it is.

EDIT: Comparing Knytt to TWA is criminal. You couldn't pay me to touch that Knytt mess ever again.
