Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

..Sony pays the developer to have it in the IGC. And not everyone will be a PS+ member. And DLC sales. And it brings attention to their name,

Assuming that this is even the full game, I think we will be seeing a lot more limited scope PS+ versions this gen.

THAT is creepy.

Does it matter? Titanfall is made by EA...

What matters is that these games and third party game are all there.

I'm also going to go against the tide and say that there is no Uncharted 4. I listened to this podcast conversation between Amy Hennig and Ken Levine, and to me it felt like Amy just wants to move on.

Of all of SCE's studios, I get the impression that Naughty Dog is among the ones that has the most freedom to do what they want (hence, TLOU). If they wanted to move away from Uncharted, they probably would be allowed to and another studio such as Bend could take it over from them.

Not that we weren't expecting it, but still nice to see that PS4 will definitely release in Switzerland this year unlike XB1:

"Online-Gaming verbindet, sogar über die Landesgrenzen hinaus! Habt ihr Freunde in England, Frankreich oder auch der Schweiz mit denen ihr noch in diesem Jahr spannende Duelle auf PlayStation 4 austragen könnt?"

Rough translation:
"Online-Gaming connects, even beyond country borders! Do you have friends in England, France or Switzerland to fight duels with on PS4 this year?"

The Order: 1886 will skip Gamescom:

Ah, damn. That and the console release date were the only things I was really looking forward to from Gamescom. :-(

I think Sony needs to show all the games to be released on PS4 by holiday 2014. One of the smartest things Microsoft did in 2005, was showing Gears of War at X05. They don't have that GoW type killer app yet, maybe The Order 1886 is it, I dunno.

So is Sony gonna announce the release date tomorrow? I am going to pre order the ps4 today and was thinking maybe I should wait till tomorrow so when I preorder I will know If its actually for launch.

Yes they are going to announce the date. Isn't it already too late to pre-order a PS4. I know that pre-orders are done over here.

I was on my mobile and in a hurry but did someone mention Infamous possibly becoming a launch title earlier?

Editing as it seems I didn't see this at all

I'll clear that up for you. It was mentioned that inFAMOUS Second Son was originally planned to be a launch title, but they pushed it back to Q1 2014 to give Sucker Punch more time to polish/space out the releases.

Anyways here are my expectations (on the low end) for Gamescom (using info revealed to us and just general guesses):

Briefing:

- Release Date (late October)
- Showcasing 1 new big AAA exclusive (maybe a teaser trailer for another one as well)
- A couple of exclusive PSN titles for the PS4
- Trailers (or a montage) with new footage for all announced titles
- Showing off the UI
- 1 big third party game (not expecting an exclusive)
- Some sort of partnership announcement (or if previously announced, detailed further)

During Gamescom
- Going into detail about the UI & its features
- New demos showing off all the announced games (with maybe some gameplay footage of The Order)
- A couple more exclusive PSN titles revealed for the PS4 (Velocity 2x got leaked so that's one down)

Edit: Okay that SSM tweet basically says new The Order stuff won't be there (at least available to the public).

you completely underestimate how important the VGAs are to Sony. Expect a couple of megatons announced then. I really think their strategy is smart. Announce titles at the Playstation Meeting, E3, Gamescom, TGS, VGAs, GDC, rinse repeat. It keeps the news coming and it keeps people talking.

I mean look at all the speculation and hype threads Sony has right here on GAF. While MS has none because they have seemingly shown their entire hand.

While I wanted more of The Order as well I kind of expected this. Didn't they say they weren't all that far along in development? Oh well I'm still hyped for the event.

Can't wait to see the UI and hear about release date. I DO hope Sony has a new announcement though.

Of all of SCE's studios, I get the impression that Naughty Dog is among the ones that has the most freedom to do what they want (hence, TLOU). If they wanted to move away from Uncharted, they probably would be allowed to and another studio such as Bend could take it over from them.

Speaking of Bend, do we know what they're up to? At least, post-Fight for Fortune?

I don't know why but I have a feeling that they are just playing with us and there will be demo for the game. I could be wrong. But again, this is just my feeling.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure during E3 interviews, they said they were just in pre-production...dunno if they are demo ready yet.

I think they are only offering a limited driveclub because they have nothing else to offer in terms of free games. Playstation 4 has no games yet so it's kind of hard to offer free games right now. They probably cut a deal to get driveclub up (in at least a limited sense) so they have something to offer besides already released free to play games. I image ps± will start off pretty slow for ps4

Edit: plus now that xbox is doing games for gold the free game offering service is about to start getting competitive. Sony is going to have to up their game if they want to compete.

Damn i was expecting to see the Order :(.
This is going to be another E3 with launch window games showed and nothing else.
It's a good strategy maybe, but the kid in me screams for new toys.

Speaking of Bend, do we know what they're up to? At least, post-Fight for Fortune?

Either most of the talent left the building or they are working on a PS4 game. Vita is a dead system, for their sake I hope they aren't working on another handheld game. I really LOVED Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow. Uncharted GA was their first mediocre game.

Day 1, the day the games release.

I think you're mistaken. Tretton says, and I quote:

"In addition to Drive Club PS+ Edition, Plus members will get a new title every month for free including Don't Star, Outlast, and The Secret Ponchos; three incredible titles you just saw during the first year of PS4."

One title per month, singular, regardless of release date. If two of these games come out the same month then we are getting them whenever Sony decides. Then again, if they are spread out, then yes, you are right.

So conflicted :/

I see the XO sizzle reel and think "huh nice games" but the console makes me go "meh"
I read that 1st year PS4 list and go "meh" but the console makes me want to buy it.

I hope there is something pretty appealing shown tomorrow. I know a shitty conference will be given a pass regardless because everything else is going to be drowned out in the release date announcement euphoria , but I just can't get excited about the possibility of another Uncharted, we've played the same game 3 times now , it's time to move on.

Second Son is the only announced first party title that is even remotely interesting at this point.

I partially agree. I think the first year games shown thus far are certainly in MS's favor. But the hardware isn't. I'm not a fan of Killzone, and my interest in Knack has waned considerably. And DriveClub is instantly on my ignore forever list due to 30fps. So far... the games I want on PS4 are multiplatform titles like Assassins Creed and Battlefield. Hopefully Sony announces another launch title (at least launch window) that can spark interest.

On the same token... not interested in KI, Halo, Dead Rising, Gears and Fable! But Titanfall, Quantum Break, Project Spark look very interesting.
