Sony's Gamescom Media Briefing On "Release Plans for PlayStation 4"

So stupid.
Not all of us are happy with just fuckin' Killzone and Drive Club at launch, Sony.
Show some more stuff.

Well I don't think they ever were going to announce more AAA launch games. Holiday is already too crowded as is once you consider 3rd party, downloadable games, etc. Putting another title in there would only be sending it out to die or have an adverse affect on the already announced games.

Gopher did say that a lot of the info in the thread was very wrong. Verendus also said that he was told that he would be impressed. We have no idea what is going to happen just yet. The Order has no bearing on whether or not this will be an impressive conference.

I guess.

In my mind I took it that the original line-up was meant to be impressive like Verendus had heard, but a lot of stuff had been pulled , like Mortimer had heard.

What alleged FIFA deal?

Thread on the front page , CVG and MCVUK reporting XO bundle deal with FIFA 14 for £429 in Europe.

The current conversation in this thread is starting to remind me of the day before E3 when everyone was worried that Sony was going to screw things up.

The Order: 1886 will skip Gamescom:

Noooooo, I really wanted to see some gameplay footage of The Order. That was one of the main things I was expecting from the conference damnit - cult members and their pornstaches battling lycanthropes with snazzy weapons in steampunk London!

What a pisser.

I think we could use more PSN games for launch, I hope what ever Housemarque is working is launch.

That a ton of stuff that was meant to be at Gamescon was now not going to be there.

It takes 2 click to cancel a pre order for a PS4 and order a XO. Stuff like MS announcing this alleged FIFA deal turns heads.

I do want to see the OS, but Sony showed next to nothing at E3, we are hearing rumours the Gamesom show is light on content......

If MS can show games not coming for a year what do Sony gain by keeping these 20 exclusives to themselves ?

How is it Sony being complacent? The games are clearly in development. The launch lineup looks great for both systems. With strong 3rd party support. That will carry them this holiday.

Why release everything now when we already know the big guns will be out Holiday 2014? We still have TGS and VGA's.

Look we're all gamers and our problem is that we want to hear about everything right now. You know what happened last gen when things got announced too early? We got situations like TLG, AGENT, FFVS13 amd Gram Tourismo.

Sony has showed a plethora of games. Both retail and indie.

MS went ahead and pretty much showed all their cards. Now there will be next to no surprises come next year. Meanwhile Sony can reveal new amazing games next year to counter the ones MS has already talked about.

According to other poster Verendous gets his info first hand so probably he is more up to date.

Well, PSP and Vita launched with almost a dozen first party titles each, so Sony hasn't been consistent on front-loading launches at all.

Coincidentally, those two systems had really smooth development cycles like the PS4 seems to have, so I'm sure we'll see at least one more big game (maybe from SCEJ?)

Well you can always improve your software ( games ) but not your hardware in current consoles , so Xbone line could look more interesting at launch but in the long run PS4 has te potential to deliver better experiences. PS3 proved it at the end of its generation.

Yes I agree. Sony has been amazing with the PS3, but they haven't shown much to get excited about the long run of the PS4. Which is why I was hoping they would announce some new titles.

I think it is just people want to see a peak into the future of the console. I have been impressed with what has been shown, but aside from Infamous, I have yet to see a game which really seems like a step beyond this gen. They need to give us a glimpse of the future. They have talked continuously about games, but they need to show a little bit more beyond launch. Few people buy a console for just the launch games. Well I certainly don't. I do think they have been a little conservative when it comes to revealing games that are really going to get people into next gen. Even the way Killzone has been presented is a little bizarre. The games are highly cinematic, but the trailers released have been much less cinematic than those for previous games.

I mean they have continually told us how many games are in dev and that they have so many exclusives. They need to show us a little more the fruits of their labours.

Concerning the development time of PS4 titles. Cerny said that it will now take them 1-2 months to "triangle". Will this have a significant effect on how long it takes to get a title out? Will we see more titles and more variety coming this generation like we did with the PS1 and PS2?

Well, you still have to make those "triangles" so while you might save a bit on programmers, content creation is still gonna take the majority of the time and budget on next gen games I think.

I'll still be incredibly surprised and eat a serving of crow if P5 gets announced Sony exclusive.

Interested to see what happens tomorrow. I do have the scratch for a Day 1 PS4, though I doubt I'll see reason to buy one until 2015.

They've been doing everything mostly right, bracing for impact in case of disappointing news is just natural.

None of this stuff is even disappointing though. Whether Uncharted 4, for example, is announced tomorrow or at the VGA's is ultimately irrelevant. You know the game is coming.

I want to see newer games as well. But we don't know what they're going to show. famousmortimer said that he's heard they're pulling stuff back while Verendus and a I believe Kagari has said that they've heard that there's reason to be excited about the conference. I guess we'll see tomorrow. But my guess is that they'll show just enough to make people happy while also leaving them wanting more.

Knack , Driveclub and Killzone are not a "great" launch line up.

The 3rd party line-up is yearly franchises that I can play on PC or current gen plus 1 new IP in Watch_Dogs.

Sony want people to part with their money and invest in them for the next gen, right now the games they have shown to do that are the 4th instalment of a mid tier shooter, a new racing game by a developer of a mid tier racer last gen and whatever the hell Knack is.

Second Son looks good, Killzone even looks good ( though they always do) but apart from that we have a trailer for the Order and..........rumours of a next gen port of a PS3 exclusive that's already sold a ton of copies just a couple of months ago.

OTOH we see DR3 TitanFall , that insomniac game ( granted it was just a trailer) and the promise of a Halo game next Xmas. then we have MS (allegedly) moneyhatting EA to get FIFA as a pack in at no extra cost.

It's maybe not complacency , but it is resistant of the failure to respond to what others are doing that we saw from Sony early last gen.

Yet in saying all that we might get a couple of new announcements and a mind blowing #Driveclub trailer tomorrow.

There is no point in showing something so early. People would get a negative impressive if they see the game running at 20 FPS with pop ups and other problems.

Opinions = assholes.

Titanfall isn't til next year, Halo is out at some point, PS4 + FIFA is still cheaper than a free pack in of FIFA with X1, that Insomniac game is out.. when exactly?

And you say you can play all this stuff on your PC - you can get Titanfall on PC as well can't you?

Sony is keeping their cards close to their chest - what's bad about that?

Debatable. PS4 launch lineup is middling.

Debatable. They teased more than they showed, plus there's obviously more stuff being developed as yet unannounced.

I'd rather get some glimpses of future stuff from Sony and third parties rather than having nothing new to chew on, aside from a few generic looking launch titles. Yes I think Killzone and Drive Club are boring.

I'd say having no new announcements in Gamescom to be disappointing.

There will be new announcements, but of course people will be left wanting more.
It's always like that. They won't drop their pants and show all the best titles they have in development for 2014-2015 tomorrow.
But it's realistic to expect 2-3 new titles getting announced.

On one hand you have a sizzle reel from MS with games a year out or more and SOny have 3 launch titles that aren't all that interesting.

All I'm saying is that it wouldn't hurt to give people a glimpse of what's further down the line. Right now I have no ides what I might be playing on my PS4 next Christmas , no game or recognised IP to get excited about even if it's a long way away.

And if MS have money hatted EA for some sort of bundle/exclusivity deal for FIFA in Europe......that's huge and a clear sign of intent.

Hopefully Sony knock it out the park tomorrow, but I dunno, gut feeling says it's going to be a big meh like E3 was outside the DRM issue.

How you view launch games is your own opinion. I'm hyped for KZ and can't wait for the multiplayer reveal. Drive Club is looking good as well. Outside of Dead Rising 3 the xb1 launch doesn't look all that impressive.

On top of that we still have BF4, AC4, COD ghosts, and Watch Dogs. Not to mention Indie games. This is one of the best launches for consoles PERIOD.

Like I said MS showed their hand. We all knew Halo was coming before it was announced. That's coming out Holiday 2014. Doesn't do jack for us now. Just like showing a new Uncharted wouldn't do anything for us now.

Ubisoft has stated that next gen versions of AC4 and Watch dogs are being preordered more than their current gen version. (I'm sure the PS4 bundles on amazon had a lot to do with these.)

Like I said before Sony last gen showed a bunch of games that just weren't ready. KZ2 trailer, TLG, FFVS13, GT5.

So much angst and foretelling of doom because Sony hasn't blown its load all over the place. Don't worry, Sony will blow its load over time. Some in your face, some right in your veins, and who knows wherever else. 30 games are in development. 20 game in the first year. Relax. They will be showing you what's coming. Launch isn't really impressive for either console. Showing Halo is like Sony showing Uncharted or GOW, we know its coming...so who cares.

Let's wait for the conference tomorrow and see what happens

Who is going to buy a console because an Insomniac game is coming out MAYBE in the next 12 months? Why do you need to know NOW (before the console is out) what you'll be playing in 15 months time?

And no, I don't think it's a sign of intent, it screams desperation. You could still buy FIFA on PS4, the deal would cost you less AND you could potentially get it before X1.

Don't forget X1 isn't even out in 2/3 of Europe this year anyway - but don't worry. FIFA + X1 in the UK would mean they're going to dominate Europe.

Where are you from?

Oh God, be realistic people. What Mortimer said makes absolute sense. If you know you are going into the holiday season with the ball in your court and people excited with what you've presented already, why are you going to throw out all the aces up your sleeve? You won't and nobody outside of gaming enthusiasts will care frankly when you have CoD, BF4, AC4, etc. all coming out in the same period. You all are whining and complaining that Sony isn't showing you more games when in reality Sony doesn't need to do so, MS's games be damned.

I believe MS showed their hand. TitanFall, Halo, will be the biggest games from them. MS first year is laid out. I'd rather be surprised then have everything shown now and just be waiting.

XB1 games not on ps4:

Forza
KI
Ryse
dead rising 3
loco cycle

PS4 games not on xb1:

Driveclub
Killzone
Knack
DC:UO
Warframe
tiny brains
the playroom

all other games are multiplatform, so it's the best launch line up ever i'd say.

Sony will have a months breathing room. I would imagine quite a few titles have been put to one side for when the X1 releases. This was only to be expected.

i totally understand people not being excited about the ps4 launch lineup so far, but i can't wait for driveclub and killzone. i loved killzone2/3 and all of the motorstorm games. i know guerilla and evolution will deliver.

Vita had that. And still does after seeing that. Also, the playroom? Really? You're going to reach like that?

Preorders don't guarantee sales.

Correct, but both systems are pretty much guaranteed to sell out this year, regardless of whatever happens tomorrow.

The difference? Sony has a cheaper price, will be (according to rumors) releasing earlier, and will be in more regions around the world than the XB1. They also have a larger positive mindshare, thanks to Microsoft's early stumbles. Sony is playing it smart.

This past couple of months, Nintendo has announced a lot their "heavy hitters" for the Wii U....that won't come to the system until next year, or after the holiday season. Has this helped the Wii U numbers?

having a FIFA pack-in for the XB1 may be a smart move from Microsoft, but I don't see how Sony announcing an AAA game from one of their big first party developers that won't be released till next November will help counteract that?

On top of that, Microsoft is not even having a proper conference @ Gamescom, and Sony will have a streaming conference, so...all publicity outside of Europe will be focused on Sony, because...well..only Sony will be having a conference and that will be live streamed...

Outside of inFamous, there's not a single game I'm excited for in gen 8 that's been announced. Maybe if games like The Order where let us see a minute of gameplay that would be different. I'm only really getting Watch_Dogs because I need something to play on the system.
