Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | August 2013 | Divekicks & Dragons

Every SCE game from Japan has SCE Japan Studio's tag on it. It's kind of gross because sometimes the games are only announced with SCE Japan Studio's involvement when development is actually handled elsewhere.

.

oh I didn't know that. What an odd and rather misleading thing to do smh

so I guess I can just say not a single first party game from SCEA or SCEE. Fuck you too sony

On a more serious note, I personally have nothing against indie games, but some variety is needed.

Western third parties in general never really cared about handheld gaming, which leaves first party studios which I assume are assigned to PS3/PS4 projects, and third parties at Japan who seem to not really care about the Vita. The former is obviously understandable, the latter is which puzzles me; some effort in big Japanese titles would go a long way.

I guess expecting efforts similar to what was on the PSP isn't the right mindset to go about this.

This conference was as disappointing as E3. Its clear that the vita has been relegated to an indie dumpsite. Where are the retail games?? My already ultra baseline expectations weren't even met. We don't even know what titles are releasing next year. Ugh.

port of a game that everyone has already played.
Are you trying to tell me that I shouldn't look forward to a game because other people have already played it?

Is that what's going on here?

One paki kebab with indie sauce please
Oh, it doesn't matter what you're telling me, you just got your dopey ass banned.

It wasn't an all-Vita conference, but it wasn't bad. I don't think they've ever given the device that much attention during one of their major presentations, so that was nice. Not being big into PC gaming, I can't say that any of the indies sound amazing just yet...but I would've said the same thing earlier this year about Thomas Was Alone/Hotline Miami/Stealth Bastard, and those are all contenders for my personal GOTY. Just because I don't know Rogue Legacy, etc., yet doesn't mean anything.

My only disappointments:
- no bigger memory card
- no Injustice or Amazing Spiderman ports (I was seriously looking forward to both on my Vita)

lack of anything big and new (like Ghosts) and no Japanese games of any kind was my biggest disappointment here

whoever at Sony talking to third party publishers to get games on Vita is doing a shitty work.

port of a game that everyone has already played.

yup, it's just too late.

We know that Gearbox asked Sony to do the port months ago (when Borderland 2 was still new) and it sound like Sony didn't wanted to do it back than, now when it's just too late they did, it is as if Sony wanted a late port for Vita instead of getting it in time.

i enjoyed the conference. much better than expected. finally saw some remote play.

honestly, i think PS4 had a worse show. not killer amped for the future... but i'm hooked for atleast another 6 months.

plus i missed out on a lot of ps1 and psp titles, so theres always that once i get through the current backlog.

If you dont know what rogue legacy is... look it up

I have seen it and it's not my kind of game, it's not for me. I'm really done blindly buying games that GAF recommends, as I have wasted money before.

Shahid, you did a very great job on stage, a very nice presentation of you. And even though I'm tired of the indie strategy, I think you and your team is doing a magnificent job getting those indie games on your platforms. :)

I shall now rate Sony's Gamescom as far as Vita goes.

Indie lineup - 10/10
Remote play demo - 10/10
Retail games - 0/10

I was kinda shocked we didn't at least get an announcement of the new Bend game assuming there is one. Also that super amazing third party game shahid raved about never showed up. No it couldn't have been Borderlands 2. He said it wasn't a port. I should have taken the advice of that memento shop and not believe his lies. Still, dat indie lineup and dat remote play. As someone that only really plays my handhelds at home, remote play and indies alone will keep me glued to my Vita for years. But nevertheless it is a crying shame Sony don't appear to be supporting the platform with major retail releases.

Also just for the record, I felt PS4 had just as weak a showing. No major game announcments. The difference being the PS4 has major third party support and a number of already confirmed big games for next year.

Remote Play is not good (unless the stream I was watching was crap and misleading me, which is possible), not on same quality like Gamepad or nvidia Shield, it look like the same we got on PS3.

lack of retail games, Japanese games, big franchise is really bad and made the price cut so pointless, Vita need variety of games, big, small, indie, well known franchises just like any other healthy system ever, this is just not good, not good at all.

Bend I think switched to PS4, there is no way Sony let them work on Vita now, just see all Sony first party studios and where they are now.

But the quality of the Remote Play will depend entirely on your router and WiFi connection in your home. It might be smooth as in the Gamescom media briefing but it might also be spotty. We won't know until November.

These are the games I'll eventually get at some point:

- Killzone: Mercenary
- Tearaway
- Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD

- Flower
- Murakami Baby
- Hotline Miami

I just want my GTA game, a Monster Hunter, a The Getaway spin-off, a Metal Gear spin-off, a Tekken - any first-class Sony property will do at this point. I'm sorry to be all bitchy at the moment, but I can't remember I have been this frustrated at a platform until now. I am faithful that it might change during 2014 and we'll get some huge games once again.

Anyone think there is a chance of N++ coming to the Vita? They only announced Minecraft for PS4 but apparently that is coming to Vita as well.

The conference satisfied me as a VITA owner. Now i am really curious to see how much bigger the impact of the reduced VITA price + memory card along with these new game announcements will have on retail sales.

Looking forward in 2014

Murasaki Baby
Borderlands 2
Rogue Legacy
Fez
Freedom Wars
God Eater 2(Hopefully localized)
Toukiden
Final Fantasy X:X-2 HD (If released in 2014)

Otherwise, my VITA is pretty satisfied for this year :D

I was kinda disappointed that there was no new title from Bend or no mention of Assassin's Creed game on VITA even though Ubisoft CEO did confirm of 3 titles being in development. But then i saw the games for PS4 and it was basically the same case there. A lot of indies and the same old titles being shown and exclusives were missing for the most part. So i think Sony isn't ready to announce their full 2014 lineup yet.

As for the future, we are getting VGAs ahead and TGS in September. Fingers crossed for some JRPG goodness on VITA at TGS.

Loved the conference, tons of indie games, borderlands 2, tearaway & Minecraft made me more than satisfied. Seriously, Minecraft on a dedicated handheld made me so happy. Cool to see Shahid on stage as well.

Also finished Persona 4: Golden today, truly an amazing game, and currently my GOTY 2013.

I wonder if Minecraft Vita will have cross-play. I'm expecting the PS4 version to have a bigger player count than the 360 version, so maybe not. Maybe PS3/Vita cross-play at least. I hope it is the 'full' game on Vita. If it's just an iOS port things will probably end badly.

One paki kebab with indie sauce please
You really do deserve to be banned. I'm trying to contain myself right now.

can someone explain the paki kabab? im guessing its racist- never seen that term/usage in the states?

i thought it was awesome seeing shahid present. he deserved to be up there.

pretty stoked for Borderlands... always wanted to play it on ps3. slightly worried though with the divekick guys porting it.

Great indie announcements for the Vita. They got most of the big name indie games and finally even Minecraft. Heard the mobile version is bad so this could be the first real portable Minecraft. Borderlands 2 and especially Football Manager 2014 Classic (HYPE, also cross save with PC) are good 3rd Party games.

Only missing the big games from Sony themselves. Don't know about Murasaki Baby as I already got burned by Escape Plan with an touch only game and am bored buy those I tried on iOS. Big Fest could be a nice building game with great music, let's wait and see.
Both aren't big games like Killzone, Tearaway or Uncharted. I expected at least Sony Bends game.

paki=pakistani, used as deregotary term for people from the indian subcontinent.
kebab=turkish and middle eastern snack food.

It's short for 'Pakistani', but it's a racist term in the UK, as ionca well knows. The kebab bit is just schoolyard 'this sounds vaguely ethnic so I'll lump it in'.

thanks. makes blatant ( and rude) sense - was just wondering if it has a more harsh connotation to it in EU.

Your stream was messed up. It looked perfectly smooth on my stream. It looked AMAZING.

Playstation gamescom 2013 Press Conference

Starts at 1:25:03

Ah cool, so not only is ionica an insufferable poster under normal circumstances but is also a racist - congratulations you stupid twat.

So I pre-ordered Walking Dead on Amazon the day it went up, but after moving and being between residences I decided to just pre-order it at the nearby Gamestop instead and cancelled the Amazon one.

Gamestop didn't order any, none of their other stores in the area show stock, Amazon's listing says 1 to 4 weeks shipping availability now, and all the ebay sellers only have stock photos. I contacted Telltale to ask if I need to snatch up one from ebay, but it will probably be awhile before I get a response.

This is very disappointing.

Yeah, what a revolting display. Find a better home on a Youtube comment thread, ionica.

Anyway, Big Fest?! Yeah, I'm down! Helldivers, Big Fest, Borderlands 2 - which I think I'll enjoy far more as a portable game (No Nvidia Shield hardsells, please)...some great titles popped up.

Might have a crack at Football Manager, too. Only ever played International Cricket Captain.

Holy SHIT what a DISASTER that was. MC price cut was cute tho.

More ports of INDIE crap. Like seriously they don't care.

Those 2 new games look like indie games too. I've never heard of the studios working on them

After the conference, I actually have mixed feelings. The Vita price has been cut, so it's nice. The MemCard had been cut, but I found it laughable. They are already at that price in Amazon (I know they are trying to sell their stock, but it's still funny).

I haven't played Borderlands. But it is from 2K. And 2K has Bioshock. And Levine wants to publish Bioshock. So if it is not a shitty port (and I'm glad Gearbox is not developing it because i have nearly zero confidence in them after the Alien debacle) I will probably buy it. I hope it comes with the DLCs. A good open word game, with lots of contents and RPG elements is something that I could love.

There are some indie games that will be lovely too. Helldivers, Ryme (it's supposed to be PS4/Vita) and a few more which names I don't remember. And remote-play seems to work pretty good. Sadly, i'm not buying a PS4 until holiday 2014 or later.

But nobody gives me a FFX HD release date. I wanted it. Now i'm expecting it to be released in 2014.

And I'm very confused. My mind cannot understand what has happened to Bend. Hasn't been 2 years already? They should be prepared, right? It's strange. And there is the third mysterious Ubisoft game. It was an AC? They were happy with its sales.

You're a top chap.

The big ones for me were Starbound, Minecraft and Football Manager. Holy SHIT football manager - I'll never do anything else!

Remote play looked pretty flawless to me. I'm going to assume it was your stream.

Source: apparently a banned url.
So after the release of the PS4 version, we’ll start looking into the Vita version, and we expect the process will be much quicker since we’ll have already perfected the game — we’ll just have to tweak the graphics and UI to ensure it looks just as good on the Vita’s smaller screen. We’re up to the challenge though — because even though we weren’t completely happy with the DS/PSP versions of N+, we loved playing the game while traveling! So we’re working hard to make that possible with an even better version, N++.

Fuck yes.

I kept my expectations in check and walked away from this conference very, very satisfied.

So much stuff coming for the Vita that I'm really excited about, and the remote play with PS4 is a great bonus.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I never played Borderlands 2, so I'm looking forward to playing it on the Vita. I don't buy every game, the moment it comes out, and then burn through it, so a lot of this stuff is new to me. Most of the ports shown off I've never played.

You really think Sony will let Bend work on Vita? that now no more than late ports machine and PS4 gamepad? I really doubt it, Sony seems in total panic of all the big games Xbox One is getting, they'll most likely put all their force and all SCEWWS studios behind PS4 now because of PS4 shitty lineup as of now, Bend I think switched their project to PS4 some time ago that why we didn't hear anything yet (almost two years since U:GA) because they need the extra time.
Letting your imagination run wild I see. You might want to read the descriptions of Sony's mood by some of the people with actual connections in the company. They're describing a calm and confidence, seeing PS4 pre-orders vastly outnumbering those for the One while a paniced Microsoft is continually going back on just about every core policy they'd put forth. And Sony apparently has several big games left to announce over the next year, while MS can likely do little but trott out Halo and Titanfall again and again.

As for Bend, do you have any actual evidence that they're not working on the Vita? Because believe me, I've looked. Tried going through their top guys twitters, looked for stuff on Linkedin... but nothing. They're running a goddamn fortress over there. The only thing I can find for Bend this year is that they had a GDC presentation, about their experience with touch controls on Golden Abyss, and that they're still hiring new people (and still mentioning the Vita in them without scientifically noting what platform they're working on).

It's not first party, but not third party. It's a second party release.
There is no such thing as a second party release - that is a fan invented term. If it's published by the platform maker it is first party, if it's not it's third party.

This. It really reeks that there was no localizations, big new games or anything. While the price drop and memory card drop is nice, I still would have loved to hear a few Japanese games being localized.

Though I'm not sure if they announce localizations of games during these events.

Remember that Gamescom is a European show. They are usually the last to get anything out of Japan so if you hear about English localizations they'll more likely be casual announcements made throughout the year for NA first and then EU later.

Don't worry. People like us who are desperate to see Japanese support on VITA can always look at TGS :D
