We could say maybe for a whole lot of characters. I think playable Ridley is workable (
and I would fangasm if it happened
), with the caveat that he would probably have to receive a redesign that gave him shorter limbs and neck. It's not so much that Ridley is too big, it's that his extremities are very long.

Resizing him would reduce his limb length, but it would make his torso really tiny. There would also be some problems regarding attack reach to deal with, especially with his tail-that's-the-length-of-the-rest-of-his-entire-body.

That's mean but I don't really care if Ridley get in or not. I just saw picture of Other M's Ridley. He's fricking ugly.
 
Considering everything Metroid so far is Other M, Ridley probably is too, so I don't really mind if he's not in either at this point. My list for the guessing contest will take a hit though.
 
I really hope Sakurai acknowledges Xenoblade enough to warrant a stage. I could also see the Comet Observatory being a successor to the Fountain of Dreams, with some alterations, possibly a rotating stage that rotates horizontally.

As for handhelds, perhaps we could have the exterior of Golden Sun's Mars lighthouse, which could also operate the same way Rumble Falls does where the match progresses laterally, only not as terrible.

And because I'm feeling repetitive today, Space fuckin' Pirate Ship!

Goddamn the possibilities.

Xenoblade StreetPass puzzle panel has given me all the hope I need.
 
I wonder if Sakurai will pull something crazy with the stages just to mess with us. Remember when MvC3 was revealed, we saw Tron and figured, "Welp! No way she's playable" but then it turned she was and the background just changes when she's being played.

Well Ridley in Other M isn't the normal Ridley, it's a clone, right?

I could see the stage-hazard being large and such, while we've got a smaller, more classic-style Ridley as playable.

Anyway, I bet Ridley will be revealed November 30th...his namesake's birthday.
 
You know who would excite me, just because. Little Mac. I think he would be so damn exciting to watch, so I can't wait to see him revealed.

Along with the finding out who the two retro characters will be as playable characters. Heh. ^^

There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.

But Lucas’s physical combat style is quite different. By which I mean he doesn’t have the same standard moves.

And everyone took the phrase "until now" to mean that Ness is out. Sakurai doesn't drop hints in these things. He scribbles something half relevant down and throws it up there. I wouldn't look too much into it.

The certain meltdowns I remember concerning Ness supposedly being cut in favor of Lucas puts everything combined in this thread to shame.

I thought that might totally be Ridley's beak sticking out of the crevice, but on closer inspection I think it's just background. Whatever it is, it seems to be behind another structure. Hard to tell in 2D

It's not shaped like his head, you're just seeing shapes in the clouds. As someone said, that hole is there in Other M. Ridley gets around the Bottle Ship by tearing holes in the walls rather than using the doors. What an asshole.

I will accept Dark Samus with a moveset based on her unique moves as a consolation prize.

Much like I will accept classic pig-form Ganon as a consolation prize for Ganondorf remaining as slow Falcon.

Trust a place called the Pyroshpere to usher in a heated discussion about a dragon.

I think all the signs are pointing in the direction of "Stage Hazard". I trust 'em, but am ready to be pleasantly surprised!

Also am looking forward to and all Anthony references or items!
 
I just now got back the challenger approaching bar, yet my picture hasn't updated yet.

EDIT - Never mind, few hard refreshes and it's gone again. Weird.
