Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Maybe I'm crazy or something, but I don't get the impression at all that this game is being rushed. I don't know why so many people seemingly feel that way.

Because two versions

And also the fact that Sakurai said a lot of bullshit in the last few months and doesn't care of being misinterpreted.

People just don't stop to think. First, these games look GOOD, not rushed. Rushed Smash isn't going to happen again, Brawl's multiple delays tell us that much. Second, Namco.

Pokémon: The Origin (in addition to HGSS and B2W2) somewhat updates Red -- I wonder if that will shake Sakurai's decision on the Pokémon Trainer rep. If Red appears, I want him to have the slightly different The Origin outfit.

It would be nice to see someone else in addition though. Blue as Assist Trophy or N w/Zekrom/Reshiram as BG character
in N's Castle stage
would be excellent.

Anime/movie releases are irrelevant to Smash.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't see how Pokemon X/Y can have a bajillion 3D Pokemon models and be fine, but somehow the 3DS' limitations may stifle the roster size of the Wii U version.

I think it's due to the fact that multiple characters (I think Sakurai meant ones who switch forms) would really slow the action down since they'd have to load when they're switched, and in the middle of a frantic battle with 4 characters all on screen moving around and such that might cause issues. Brawl, for instance, had some slowdown when using Zelda/Sheik and Pokemon Trainer, and I guess on the 3DS it might be worse?

With Pokemon, since it's an RPG, it doesn't matter if the game has to load each Pokemon's model when they're switched and such. I don't think it's the quantity that's the issue, it's the quality...i.e. Smash characters have to be moving around at a steady pace and have way more animations than the usual Pokemon and such.

We don't even know how large the teams are, and don't know a lot of other stuff in between.

Sakurai always says vague obtuse shit like this while he's developing a Smash game. This has become part of the Smash development process for Smash fans lol. Dissecting all his interviews for all the littlest bits of info, to the point of completely over analyzing stuff lol, and even assuming that the game may be rushed or something like that.

Best believe Nintendo will delay the game if needed, they give no fucks when it comes bringing down that delay hammer. No one here has a lick of proof the game is being rushed, and we have no idea when the release date is. So lets calm down, and take a deep breath. Lol.

When Brawl was introduced Lucario's movie has already aired two years (iirc) and the latest one was Darkrai or Manaphy.

They put in Pokemon to represent the latest "trend" in the generation, not because of a movie.
Brawl's roster (minus Sonic) was locked down a week before Lucario's movie premiered. It was very much a promotional Pokémon at the time. Obviously Sakurai had no way of knowing how popular it would be years later.

Of course, there's also this.

So how are Pokemon selected for inclusion in the series?

"Well first of all, we talk with the Pokemon company," explained designer Masahiro Sakurai when we put the question to him. "What’s the hot Pokemon? What Pokemon are in the movies right now? And really do a lot of research on that front.

"For example, X and Y are coming out – of course, we haven’t done any market research because they’re not out yet, but we look at the animated series or movies and anything like that and again, find out which ones are going to be central to any of conversations in Pokemon going forward.

Liking the graphics on the 3DS version the more I see them. I'm interested to see what the game looks like without the outlines though.

I don't want to spend over $100 on Smash. But.. Both versions look so damn good! :( What do I do!?

If they'll do anything like they did with MH3U, they'll do a bundle saving money.

Nintendo did a promo in the EU, Wii U/3DS versions together for £70, saving like £20-£30, so I can't see them not doing this.

It highly depends if the rumor that they won't release together is true.

God, the 3DS version looks beautiful the more I see it.

Look at that background! Damn.

Maybe it's just my eyes but it doesn't look like there's an outline on Fox in that shot. Pit has a slight one around his wings, though.

I noticed that, I was gonna post it earlier but I was at work. I don't think they're outline-less otherwise Sakurai'd of mentioned it before?

It looks bloody amazing, i'm so impressed.

I said "Holy Goddamn". Is that a Fire Emblem stage?

EDIT: Pit does have an outline. I can't tell if Fox does or doesn't though, but it would be weird if the setting was on a "per-player" basis.

EDIT EDIT: vv Ah bugger, I have so many games I need to catch up on. My Nintendo-Fu is lagging immensely. :(

And what kickstarted the Lucario trend?

A popular Pokemon which is loved by kids and is "legal" enough not to be locked as a legendary or a special event.

Brawl's roster (minus Sonic) was locked down a week before Lucario's movie premiered. It was very much a promotional Pokémon at the time. Obviously Sakurai had no way of knowing how popular it would be years later.

Yeah, but during development another movie had already been released, etc.

Honestly people look too much on the "anime and movie" quote out of context. He refers to those because (usually) they promote the upcoming generation. That's not what's happening for Pokemon Origins (which is just an episode).

But they're going to put in Mewtwo's armor from teh first pokemon movie into these games

:P

But honestly, if Gen VI is represented by mega evolutions, then I'll be disappointed.

#1 - Yup, that stage is based on Viridi's attack on humanity. I can't wait to see the reset bomb go off in the backround.

#2 - I didn't think about it, but yea, N's castle as a stage for the Pokémon would be fantastic.

What's more badass than turning into Ganon?

Turning into a not-TP-boar Ganon. But even that I'd be kind of okay with if it wasn't just a screen-rush attack. Let us actually CONTROL him as Ganon for a little while. It'd sure be neater if he was the blue pig, though, or at least the OOT version. Something where you could lumber around and swing the trident.

Then people will complain it's Giga Bowser 2.0

What you're referring to is the size of the cartridge, which is surely not what Sakurai was referring to when he said the 3DS has limitations. He meant the hardware had limitations.

The 3DS is roughly the same as the GCN/Wii with shaders, but it's CPU is a lot weaker than the GCN's and the Wii's. The CPU is a bottleneck for the 3DS in comparison to the GCN and the Wii.

There are pretty much two main problems, i could see with the 3DS-Version, which comes from the hardware:
1. Can the 3DS handle 8 Ice Climbers models at the same time
2. Can the 3DS handle to load the three different models of the Pokemon Trainer for 4 players.
Since Olimar has only three Pikmen now, there could be a possibility for some cuts on those characters ...

By being the worst Ganon compared to all other versions. The guy is a boar running around and teleporting. The real Ganon is the one with the dual swords or a trident that can do a crazy amount of things.

fuck that ganon, he always looked ugly

Remaking some final smashes is top priority, and Ganondorf's one of them.
I like this for example.

Giga Bowser has to go, it's time to bring in the Koopa Klown Car.

TP Ganon did have the best Ganon music, though.

De duh de, de duh de, di di di di di dunh.
