Killer Instinct coming to Xbox One

I think they hinted at something like that in the stream yesterday, we will see. Would be much better for sure. Let me use the character in the training room, and then let me decide which one I want for free.

Great idea or at least test them out in training before you purchase them.

If anyone has issues getting Jago for free in ALL modes, or paying $20 for the first 8 characters and story mode, I don't know what to say. Are people seriously going to say that free Jago with the full game or a $20 get all the basics option is a bad thing? People want different free characters? Come on...

Go buy your $60 CoD Ghosts and have fun with that...

I don't think many actually have "issues" with it, just providing other possible options. You know, having open discussions and coming up with good ideas like the one above.

Combo was my main in the original KI so I hope he's one of the characters in the first 8

Fist Bump

Anyone else super excited about the KI Arcade Port with the Ultra edition? Dare I say I'm more excited for that right now? Especially since they intend to add Online play at a later date for it.

Then user gets a great idea! Let's make 8 Xbox Live accounts so that way I play the entire game!

I think they'll go the MMA route with Combo as well but I also wouldn't mind a reimagining of him like the first game as a cocky boxer who just wants to prove himself.

Please no camo and eye patch.

I loved TJ Combo and he would absolutely be one of the easiest to update for this game. I don't think his chances of being in the first eight roster are very good though. :(

I believe they allow you to test each character out first before buying the character.

maybe.
btw I was just saying that if they let you choose the free chara, someone could technically create 8 accounts and choose 1 chara for every account, so they could basically play the game entirely for free.
This is why it's not happening, you wont be able to choose your free character.

Jesus christ. This game looks amazing.

I think you guys *may* be disappointed if you're expecting the character reveal at the Super Arcade stream tonight. The reveal was always stated to be at Gamescom, and while the stream will be taking place during Gamescom, I wouldn't consider a reveal there as any kind of Gamescom announcement/reveal.

$0.02

TJ Combo would be easiest to screw up? He's probably the simplest designed character out of the entire original roster, and the easiest to update to a modern look.

KI2 would like to have a word with you...

So the 20 bucks gets us 8 characters and the story mode? Shit, after seeing those gifs above, this game is looking GREAT for 20 bucks.

Story mode and 2 of the characters won't be ready at launch, but you'll get them as soon as they're available without having to pay extra. From what we've heard, season one (all 8 characters and story mode) should be completed no later than March.

I think something a lot of people may also be forgetting is that, unless I am very mistaken, all of the new characters also come with their own stages. So that $5 gets you a character and a dynamic stage.

That's correct. Each character comes with a stage.

I was just going to ask b/c it seems like people are talking as if tonight the character will be revealed. I've also seen comments about Orchid but I didn't see any official word. I actually heard it's someone that fits into the KI lore (i.e., new character) so where is this Orchid talk coming from? I hope it's orchid too btw.

First David Wise came back for DKCR 2.
Now the Killer Instinct announcer is back for KI3.

Awesome victory indeed.

Max put out a video with The Devs, dealing with Thunder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcAlsEE-6bw

Nice fullscreen Thunder & Stage goodness :)

Oops, didn't see it a few lines up! Silly refresh.

At any rate, Thunder seems to be coming along nicely. Having an ender that gives a "Stay in my face!" Hard knockdown is pretty scary for a grappler (as well as having it give more meter), now if they can just squeeze a "FEENIX" into there somewhere...

I think THunder needs more grapple moves.

...I agree.

I don't think one command grapple is enough to label him a grapple type character, especially since he seems to play like everyone else otherwise.

Also worrying, they made a big deal about Thunder getting in being his weakness in the intro vid, but he seems to be able to get in just fine in the gameplay videos. I think he moves forward too much with his downward axe move. His weaknesses need to be a bit more pronounced.

After watching Max's video, I think Thunder is looking like the worst in the current build. I will reserve judgement until I play it next week, but here are my current concerns:

- Ankle Slicer doesn't offer a mixup that isn't already available for every other character. The overhead is 17 frames, which you *should* be able to block on reaction. The LP Ankle Slicer is 19 frames, which should also be blockable on reaction. I'm actually thinking his crouching MK or something will be a faster low. Not to mention Ankle Slicer is unsafe (unless there's enough push back), so you can't just throw it out there.

- Call of the Earth has great range, and you probably won't be able to jump out on reaction since it's 10 frames (assuming the LP version has solid range). However, it doesn't lead to anything. I'll take that all day over potentially getting put into a combo. Even if I jump to avoid it and you anticipate it, what does Thunder get? A Sammamish and Sky Fall for 9% (according to the video)?

- Sammamish is really, really unsafe (-31 at best), so I was hoping Sky Fall was safe, but it's not. So you can't use that to get in unless the opponent is careless enough to use a projectile when you're close.

- It seems like you need meter to really be effective with Thunder. Unfortunately, you need meter for everything else in the game system. Want to Shadow Counter? You need meter. Want invincibility on wake-up? You need meter. Want to get in with a Triplax? You need meter. Then of course there's meter for Shadow Linkers to get the added damage.

- I can't even imagine how Thunder gets in on Glacius. I can use Shadow Triplax to blow through his ranged attacks, but now I'm down on meter. Thunder isn't as fast as the other characters, so I can't just out-poke Glacius (I'm assuming). Plus, throws are harder to tech now, so one throw from Glacius and I'm either combo'd, or I'm back at full screen.

Now again, I will play Thunder next week and see what's up, but right now he looks very weak to me (on paper, theorizing in my head).

For the movesets in this game, I think he has enough Throws.
  • Normal throw with crazy range.
  • Shadow version that does very solid damage.
  • Forward normal grapple that trips and gets nice knockdown.
  • Back throw that works as a linker, and can be used to start combos at any place on screen.
I wouldn't turn down some kind of air throw, though.

I could see a season 2 or 3 giving the old characters new moves, so would like to see a new grapple then.

As far as his movement... I think his Sammamish and Sky Fall will be good in real play, but not as strong as they look now. His far range grapple and pokes will make him a character that likes to poke from a tight distance, which puts him in Wind Kick / Ice Lance / Feral Hop ranges.

What bothers me the most about Thunder is the body. The upper body looks too chunky. The lower body looks too short. That can't be a real body type, even for a game such as this.

When you use the back throw as a linker or combo starter you lose considerable damage due to the huge KV is adds. As I mentioned above, hit me with his command throw all day. I'll take that small bit of damage.

I think Glacius has a better throw game. His corner throw doesn't impact the KV meter. Granted, it's limited to the corner, but still.

One of the things I love about this game's design is that it's a bit exaggerated. To me, that just screams "Fighting game". You want to be able to tell each character by their Silhouette.

I guess they're thinking about the backthrow as more of a linker for Maxamizing combo mixup damage, with the new regen health system? I do agree about the command grapple part, it's not a huge threat, compared to the combo damage.

Do you think they should lower the impact to the KV meter when using throw as linker? Or maybe add something new to his front throw, to give his grappler status more of a threat?

I wouldn't mind an EX, or more safe Skyfall either. Making an EX Skyfall into an OTG Skyfall a followup to his normal grapple might be kinda cool too.

Wait what? Is this true? I thought that $20 was a great deal until I heard this. So we are being charged for $20 for a half finished game. That's garbage. I'll wait until next year and pay full price for a complete game thanks.

You will get the story mode and 2 characters with that 20 bucks.

I thought that the 2 characters were extra - so 6 initially and then 2 paid dlc characters.

As far as having to wait until march for the story mode - as hoaky as fighting game story modes are I don't feel like a fighting game is complete without one. I'll just wait until march before I pick this up.

They're "free" DLC, in the sense that they (and the story mode) are all included with the $20 you pay. Basically, they're all a part of "Round 1".

The confusing part is that they come out at a later date than then initial download: It's mentioned they should be "out by march". This does hint to the fact that we'll possibly see the first of these 2 characters before then, rather than both of them + the stories being DLable at the same time.

It sounds like each character should include these things:

- 4 or more colors (unlockable by an in-game points system)
- Their own unique Stage
- Unique dynamic music + sounds and effects to go along with those.
- A complex character trial / tutorial which will go over character-specific details.
- Probably some "accessories" to customize their look. (unlockable in game)
- A hidden / unlockable "Classic Theme" accessible in some form or another.

I can't believe lame ass Chief Thunder made it and Riptor will probably be left out. They had to change everything from the look to the name to the moves to make that character appealing. Might as well just kill him and introduce this one as a new character.

The tutorial / training mode does sound pretty great. A lot of the training modes we get in fighters are very bare bones or complete throw aways.

I am having a difficult time trying to think of how they could update Riptor's look where he wouldn't seem completely rediculous.

The date for the extra content has not been confirmed. KLobb simply mentioned March. We don't know if that's everything releasing at once around March, or everything will be done releasing by March.

Also, the $20 gets you all 8 characters and the story mode. You just won't get all of that at launch.

If Thunder is supposed to be a grappler, then you should fear his throws. Now that normal throws are harder to tech, his back throw is more fearful than most, but if it cuts half of your combo damage (I don't know how much it cuts), then Glacius' corner throw is superior even if you can't use it anywhere on screen.

IMO, the normal command throw should juggle and the shadow version should lead into a grounded combo as if it were a normal opener. You shouldn't be able to react to either (which is pretty much how it is now).

Any combo starting throw or mid-combo throw should not hurt the combo. He's a grappler character, why does he lose damage for starting a combo with a throw or using one as a linker?

I follow the concept, but from what little information we have, I'm not all that pleased with the execution.

I don't like the changes to Thunder overall. He's not even "Chief" anymore!!! Not big on his design and I don't like that they took away Phoenix. I might still play him but I'm already thinking of having a new main. I'll probably start with Jago to learn the basics, then move on to Sabrewulf, Tusk, or TJ Combo if they all make it into the game.
