Adam Sessler"Titan Fall one of the Most Enjoyable things I've played at a Convention"

It seems to be all about mobility, so the lack of recoil will help when you're bouncing around the map. Also, the Titans really should kill infantry fast else there is little point having them in the game.

It does not seem to be as insta kill as CoD but we really need to see a full length match going on, since they keep clipping these ones down to a shorter length.

You can kill people pretty quickly and yeah too much recoil would make the mobility pointless. Why should I hope around so quickly and all these ways if I can't hit anyone like that? The whole feel that way is more akin to Quake that you want to move all the time.

I'm just worried the game will be too accessible and easy to play like CoD. None of the guns looked like they had recoil, titans killed soldiers with damn near a single bullet from their chainguns.

I'm not really into the "I saw you first so I win" type of multiplayer CoD offers. This looks like it could fall into that trap.

It will be, it has to be as a mass market thing. You might want to try Tribes Ascend, but be warned there are some insanely skilled dudes there.

Apparently the controls are super intuitive for a FPS. Would you agree with that?

Then you have to use Origin....

Origin has a shitty reputation but as a client it actually isn't that bad. It runs responsively and pretty much does what you want it to. Definitely could be worse, as Uplay constantly demonstrates that.

I dislike the reasons for its existence, and EA's removal of their library and future games on Steam, but Origin itself is not really the problem.

That's pretty much why I put that caveat in. CoD is extremely popular but I haven't played properly since World at War and CoD4. Those were the last enjoyable experiences for me from that 'franchise'.

My sweet spot is BF4 at the moment, but y'know people have probably looked at BF4 and had their stomach turned. It's all relative. I think the problem is twofold for titanfall:

> The amount of hype - it's just not proportionate to what we've seen. The more hype and exposure something gets, the more people will see it. Some people will be blown away and excited, others will be like 'meh, why is this everywhere? What's so special?';
> Comparisons to CoD - it's nothing like CoD. When people say it's going to be the next CoD, they are referring to sales. Will titanfall really shift more copies than CoD:Ghosts? Will it even shift more than Halo 5?

Just let it grow organically on its own. Don't shove it down our throats. Look at GTA V, every now and again something new releases and the gamers flock to forums and discussion boards and the hype builds itself. In instances like these, it's very much fabricated and pushed out there. I know it's in its infancy of development and still has a long way to go but even Destiny has sort of stood on its own two legs.

I know what you're saying but Titanfall is a new IP, so it needs to get exposure. People hint anything about GTA and fans start foaming, plus they start doing it after the previous one has come out.

If they can capture some of that Quake feel, then I am all in. Would be nice to see some more maps though!!

The only thing that seems to be manufactured to me is the salt this game attracts.

I posted up a Resogun thread yesterday and it was wall to wall people saying how good it looked and they are right. Positive impressions do not equal paid for hype.

Yes, they made the traversal as easy as possible. You basically just hold down jump to run on walls and stuff. There are no real complex inputs required for this stuff.

the hype for this game I fear may be too strong, people are beginning to hate on it before it has even released

There is also the danger of overselling something: see every big 1st party Nintendo game ever.

I really like EA's new stance on PC Origin downloads with their games as I will essentially get a full featured 24 hour demo of the game so I can see for myself what the hubub is without fear of losing $60

Really don't get the hype for this. I suppose most of it is self created by the industry.

im with you.the game looks fun but there is a lot of hiperbole and prefabricated hype, remember all these journous who are tired of shooters and cod?
Seriously, get off it.

Hell, I barely play any competitive multiplayer nor am I planning on getting an Xbox but the TitanFall trailers are probably the most exciting and straight up fun looking next-gen gameplay I've seen yet.

Why do people want to believe the hype is fabricated?

I really have no idea what your point is here.

and whats your point? a indie game got nice impressions so by that logic triple AAA cant have prefabricated bias?

thats the point, let the game grow organically into the audience

It looks cool, but it's a multiplayer only game. The multiplayer looks good, but I have a hard time getting excited about a game with no single player campaign. I guess it almost veers into that MMOFPS genre that makes little sense to me.

Maybe it's something I'll "get" later on.

Yep, same here. First of all, it's merely a vehicle for competition - it's exactly the same as any other multiplayer game, as in it lets people compete with each other. Only the mechanics are marginally different. It's still only about "showing off your skills", or "beating the other players". As opposed to the values of single player games; story, adventure, exploration.

Add to that, in order to play, the servers need to work and players need to be online.

What is so next gen about it? It just looks like another shooter. This one has wallclimbing and mechs. The combat looks so incredibly dull. I guess this goes for every FPS these days though. It's all been done before. It's the most popular genre but developers haven't been able to really improve the concept for years now.

Fabricated is probably the wrong word. Aggressively marketed is perhaps more apt. Like I said, forget the GTA V comparison and compare it to something like Destiny. Both revealed, both for 2014, both next-gen. Destiny is just quietly bubbling interest on its own - but it seems like you can't go a day without more titnfall coverage. It's natural for some people to ask 'whats this all about?'

From my perspective, the movement reminds of UT or Q3, probably most like UT2K4 but in more urban environment. The mechs are essentially armoured vehicles/weapons you can ride in. I played UT2K4 for years and had loads of mods it was well fun. This might be the same for console - is it simply because this type of game hasn't been realised on console before? If that's it, fair enough.

I don't like First Person Shooters; i stopped playing them years ago. Also i had little to no interest in this game.

But all this talk about Titanfall made me go and play it at Gamescom. Believe it or not - i was overwhelmed. Watching the trailer is one thing but actually playing it is another. I wrote a bit about it here.

I can't believe people are complaining that respawn/ea is out there giving the community more game coverage. That's called good community relations and marketing.

Look at the way SE handled ARR. They were constantly engaging the community on that game and it worked wonderfully for them, the game is a hit. The pre-release coverage Titanfall has gotten so far pales in comparison to what ARR got.

When is Destiny released? The hype will come for Destiny if its good nearer the time.

Which is fine. Different people have different tastes. Great.

My problem isn't with people not liking it, its with taking that to some nth step as to to group the people who do like it into some marketing groupthink dorito-fueled MS conspiracy.

Well there goes my bonus.

That's the problem with the game industry's hyper aggressive marketing and incestuous PR/Media relationships. There is so much bullshit out there there is no way to tell the wheat from the chaff. I don't blame anyone for being cynical when it comes to games marketing, especially when EA and Microsoft are involved.

So like I said, yipee that EA gives out what amounts to 24 hour PC demos now.

They're both 2014 right?

Either way, I'll leave it alone now and bow out the thread. Don't want to take it off topic for too long, probably best for another type of thread (like a PSA). Hope it does deliver for everyone who is stoked for it either way.

I think Destiny will be around 6 months behind TF. Just making an educated guess as there isn't a date for either.

Can't wait for the upgraded version for PS4!

sessler has turned into a Microsoft fanboy, I have no respect for him anymore

My point was that's it's perfectly possible that everyone who sees a game just likes it. There doesn't need to be any other motives.

Most likely it is a bit of both.

People probably saw it was pretty hot and decided it would be "the game" to try to drive next gen sales and clicks.

The only downside of success is the potential for a bandwagon of MP only experiences. But really the companies that would do that are already not targetting games at myself.

I hope it is really good and does really well.

I don't get how more people aren't making Mirror's Edge comparison here. Literally EVERY time I look at footage from this game, I feel like I'm watching Mirror's Edge with a CoD skin put on it, and multiplayer versus. I realize this is a bit reductionist, especially considering the addition of mechs, but the whole wallrun-turn-jump-wallclimb mechanic is pulled STRAIGHT out of Mirror's Edge's gameplay.

I have the distinct impression this is going to feel like a hybrid of CoD, Mirror's Edge, and Armored Core (if the mechs are agile enough).

A shame they went with EA and MS, would have give it a shot on PS4 or Steam

They didn't went with MS,they choose it since there are a small team working on there first new IP and well they have to make a decision maby in the future it will come to PS4 who knows.

Also it is coming to PC,so no worries if you didn;t want to buy the console version and i am getting it on PC.

It's coming to PC via Origin, which is basically like buying a car with a bomb in the engine rigged to detonate when the manufacturer feels that you need to buy a new version.

Unfortunately, no thanks.

Negative Posts = Buying PS4 exclusively
Positive Posts = Buying X1 or PC version

The trolls are working overtime today I see :P

OT; This games looks phenomenal, no surprise it has so many great reactions.

I wanna play this so bad it hurts ngh, and Destiny llooks great as well

These games makes me wanna play fps again, wich is prety surprising for me as i started to get sick of the genre after cod4 and bc2

Just hope the community on Xbone will be nice, please :/

Game looks fun, but I don't see how it's "next gen" I'm really interested in seeing pics of the 360 version (and the reactions to those pics lol)

Wich is why i'm hyped out of my mind lol

So you are saying Origin is a bad thing? Don't make me laugh, when was the last time u used it? 4 years ago? Well times have changed and it works great.

Why do people want to believe the hype is fabricated?

Because it is. We see this every year when the new Call of Duty gets hyped by the media and receives laughably high ratings.

Titanfall is CoD with mechs and jumping, same procedure.
