Microsoft: "It’s up to us to prove that [Xbox One is] worth $100 more [than PS4]"

"It’s up to us to prove that it’s worth $100 more. I think it is," senior director of product planning and management at Xbox Albert Penello told GameSpot today at PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington.

Penello said the suite of games and services Microsoft is offering with the Xbox One is stronger than the competition.

"I think we do more. I think our games are better. I think as people start to experience Kinect and see what it can do using voice, I think that’s better," he added. "I think the ability to have an all-in-one system where you can plug in the TV, that’s better. I think we’ll have a better online service."

"I just believe that we’re going to have a better system."

Ultimately, consumers want to buy the "best thing," Penello said. The Xbox One's stance as the most premium console this holiday season won't hold it back, he argued.

"$100, when you’re talking $400 vs. $500 [shrugs shoulders]. I don’t believe it’s going to be the deal-killer," he said.

It's true.

An Xbox One really does cost $100 more. I looked it up.

Let's see gaf try and argue this one.

I hope you are right ms,,, I hope you are right..

Because right now I am paying $100 fior something ill probably throw in the closest.

Well see about that.
But considering 100 more mainly because of Kinect it seems and still having apps behind a pay wall might not bode well this time.

It may or may not be better, we'll see about that. That won't necessarily mean we actually want it though. I had a blast playing Mass Effect 3 with Kinect but that doesn't mean I think less of my experiences on my PS3.

Even if it was worth 100$+ in value over the PS4 it doesn't mean people will pay that. They will wait for the pricedrop and I would be extremely surprised if that doesn't happen quite early with dropped Kinect.

I think it's not hard to agree with the rest of what he's saying, but LOL. Is this serious? Let them eat cake.

This is only true if he's assuming that everyone is on the Kinect 2.0 train and they're not. But even then, it isn't true in my opinion. If both consoles were the same price without any camera accessory then I still think the PS4 is far and away the best value.

We'll see. There's potential it could be depending on how much of a step up Kinect is. Not sure why they aren't coming with a Wii sports pack in. That'll hurt.

I think there may be a case that their online services/UI may be better than the PS4, but that is really just an assumption based off of last gen. Nothing they have shown game wise supports this. They have been almost silent on first party games for two or three years now compared to Sony, I would have thought they were making amazing games for the new console, yet here we are and nothing.

It'd be fine to obnoxiously shrug your shoulders if 100 dollars more was a 5% or less higher price, but we're talking about a 25% higher price for a HDMI-in port, related software functionality, and inferior gaming hardware.
