Puppeteer EU Demo Thread

Hehe I appreciate your effort, Sony did a poor job marketing this game, I mean even the name Puppeteer is incredibly uninspired.

10-12hours sounds ideal, I guess I'll pick it up then. I can't remember the last time I played a big budget 2D plattformer. Puppeteer therefore felt like I was transported back in time to my early days as a gamer. :) I had almost forgetten what it feels like to play a game that's just fun and isnt solely focused on keeping your adrenaline and dopamine levels up. What a surprise.

Really sums up my feelings as a whole. I've mentioned it before, but it dawned on me recently that I haven't been this excited for a platforming game since Klonoa 2, and that was what... 12 years ago or so? Just goes to show how much the genre has been side-lined this gen in terms of big budget releases. When I was a kid these type of games were ten a penny, but now the output has dried up, so when something like Puppeteer comes along it makes me appreciate the game even more.

And I really like the name!

Ah well, there you go then! Say no more.

Just played the demo. Gosh. The art style is absolutely gorgeous. Plays magnificently. Wish i got more time with the scissors, but still. Heads seems like it could be a neat gameplay mechanic.

As a massive fan of platformers, I have to buy this. Have to

I played through the demo with my 3 year old son yesterday...he was fascinated, as was I. Proper platforming jumping physics are such a nice change after playing LBP and LBP2. Amazing visuals, hilarious commentary (which I had to replay again to ensure I caught everything) and real sense of self. Puppeteer knows what it is and embraces it fully. This went from a "maybe" to "absolutely day one" in my books. I hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle this year.

Replaying the demo did wonders for bringing out the finer details, both in visuals (animation and such) and dialogue. Also, it's surprising how interactive the stage is. Virtually everwhere you click, there will be a reaction or something happening (much to the amusement/amazement of the audience).

The combination of "platform game + console exclusive + two months before next generation + one week before GTA 5 + busiest time of the year for games" will probably result in this game struggling for attention and sales. It couldn't have been released at a worse time. Which is heart breaking considering how much passion and love Japan Studio seems to have put into this game.

In any case, i'll do my bit and support this game. Judging by the demo, it's going to be something very special and i can't wait for the game to release.

edit: just noticed that the EU digital version is 10.3 Gb according to the PSN store.

I fully agree, with both your enthusiasm, support and your fear for this game's success. It's not often that a demo captures my attention so fully. I was completely drawn into The Puppeteer's storybook world, partly due to its visuals and sound design (love the panels sliding in and out!) and partly due to solid (non-floaty) platforming gameplay. I can't wait to get my hands on the full game! If there is any justice in the gaming world, this game will become a sleeper hit, or at least a game that will be remembered for years to come by insiders even when its sales might turn out to be a disappointing.

Why do developers continually map primary functions to the R2 button? Almost makes it unplayable. Everything else was enjoyable.

Yup it's bigger because of the extra languages.
As well as english, we have french, latin american spanish and brazilian portuguese.
Gavin, based on the demo, that's a little incorrect.

The portuguese translation in the demo is portuguese from Portugal, not the brazilian one. Also, the portuguese language only kicks in (understandably) when the system is set to portuguese from Portugal, not brazilian portuguese (which boots Puppeteer in english). Just a heads up!

Gavin -

The Russian demo is fantastic! Not only is the translation well done, but the voice acting is very evocative of theatre productions/cartoons for Russian children. Kudos to the team! It's rare to see this much care be taken on a Russian localization.

Sorry I mislead you...
The American version has brazillian portuguese and latin american spanish.
The EU version has normal portuguese and spanish. So if you get the American version of the game and set it to brazillian portuguese it will be in there.
Sorry its not on the EU version but the download size is big as is...
Sorry.

I love playing in russian. I cannot speak russian but it sounds more like a eastern european fairy tale.

Hey Gavin, being a total fanboy here, but I wanna know: What's your favorite "puppet" in the game? From what I've seen, I'm quite partial to General Tiger -- I like how you guys gave him a Cheshire-esque smile and glow-in-the-dark eyes/stripes. And his voice and submissive personality is fantastic coming from so fearsome a beast. :)
