is it just me or... is the game ui kinda shitty for dungeoning?

I don't particularly care what skills my party members are channeling, but that covering up their hp... kinda important?

Also, marking enemies don't appear on the enemy list on the left, so if there are multiple enemies... a bit hard to figure out which one is the one that lost aggro, especially when shit is hectic or the room you are in has a shitty camera angle.

Will this game support custom lua layouts and what not?

I have decided not to frustrate myself with the fucked-up server issues any more.

I will return to FFXIV and this thread in later October.

It doesn't cover up their HP. The HP is never covered.

Agreed about the marking and enemy list, though. And yes, they've announced the intention to add addon support soon.

Red dots on the enemy list means aggro on you and green means not on you.

You know how people joke about mmos being your face on the hotbar most of the time? This is the first recent mmo that i've felt that way lol. the long gcd + the whole way of how they display damage/damage taken making zero sense in my brain (am I getting hit? Or is that his damage? Or my damage? or some other guys damage?).

You don't even really have to move outside of AOE moves... and i guess for some classes. But even then, enemies have no physical form and the game auto aims, so you can pretty much just walk through guys and be behind them.

Maybe things change later, but combat is easily the weakest out of all modern mmo's ive dabbled in the past decade or so.

Gah! How am I supposed to get my FF XIV fix sitting here behind a desk at work? The long weekend was great, and now I'm feeling withdrawals . Boo work.

If you want to level up hella fast FATE's are the way to go

For me it's

Western Thanlaan - 1-7 north of the outpost (abuse the windmill area FATEs), 7-11 west of the outpost (the 5 FATEs cycle here on the bridge area before Horizon), 11-15 the water area between Horizon and Vesper bay (the 2 FATE's here)

Eastern Thanlaan - 15-20 before Highbridge (lots of chasing FATEs too spread out, but reachable ), 20-25 Highbridge area (very compact, Attack on HB I,II, II give ridiculous amount of XP)

South Shroud - 25-30 anything near the Quarrymill or other side of the Inn horizontally

Costa del Sol - 30-37 The whole Eastern Map, Cancer side, too much XP

Coerthas - 37-42 The grad daddy of them all, too many FATEs, not enough time to do all of them, Return by your team is key to getting good XP
Pro-Tip don't use Teleport >_<

Mor Dhona 42-45 Near the sanctuary and around it

North Thanlaan 45-50 *DAT Dark Devices *Bites Lip* EVERYTHING!
Go, Go, Gorgimera!

Does the Praetorium drop any loot? It was kind of disappointing that Castrum Meridianum didn't. You just got some tomes which is nice, but for an hour-long raid, kinda meh. I could do two 4-man dungeon runs and get almost the same amount of seals + gear/loot.

Does Bahamut's Lair or whatever have loot on bosses?

I just feeling those raids will be empty and pointless to do after you do the main story with no loot incentives to go again.

Well, how far in the game are you? What class?

The early dungeons are a bit easy if you have played other mmos.

Just curious what does the server update tomorrow exactly do?

Isn't the current problem that there is 5000 user limitation per server and thats why they block other users with 1017 because they are full on 5000 users?

Are they adding new servers, or are they actually going to increase that 5000 concurent user cap?

They are adding more instance servers which will allow them to raise the existing cap on the current servers, before the instance servers were crashing without a realm cap.

do quests die out later? I haven't really had to do much besides quests and the occasional fate that's nearby.

didn't really reach a 'gap' until lvl 29 90ish%.

also... why dungeons? Exp is kinda shit. loot is more often than not, worse than the stuff i'm wearing.

And there really is kinda the 'this feels the same' vibe with each one (last one i did was manor).

Is there more of a reason to do them later?

Does anyone have an idea on how macro's work and why they fail?

So I'm a WHM. When I start a dungeon or before a boss, I use protect and then stoneskin everyone. I tried to set this macro:

/ac Protect <me>
/wait 2.5
/ac Stoneskin <1>
/wait 2.5
/ac Stoneskin <2>
/wait 2.5
/ac Stoneskin <3>
/wait 2.5
/ac Stoneskin <4>

I tried setting the wait times higher and lower. How can I pull this one off? I thought I wrote a flawless code -_-'

Go stand behind Cancer and let him do the Crab Dribble move on you, see how much damage that does to you

Go fight Gorgimera and understand what Violet and Blue mean
Violet run up in it's ass due to Lightning Thunderstorm AOE, Blue run the fuck away AOE Blizzard II/Freeze action

You just started on the easy stuff, shit picks up quick in the dungeons and boss mechanics needed to win

Most of the end game dungeons don't really drop loot, they drop tomes which are then used for end game gear (purples) that you have to buy. Most people will farm Meridianum for tomes to get some early gear, then move on to hardmode primals and post story line dungeons to get better stuff. Seems like you'll need to farm to get the best gear in the game. They won't just drop in your lap.

Bleh, that's pretty disappointing and boring frankly. Part of the thrill of beating some epic and hard fight is to see those nice shinies pop up after victory. Does Bahamut's Lair give loot at least? I guess it's alright if the story raids do not give any loot as long as the post-main story ones do.

If you do Main story only with your class and add all the side quests that unlock due to main story your character will hit 50 (that's including the dungeons/boss fights/etc.)
No FATEs necessary

Problem arises when you level your second class, there will be maybe a few new quests left over from the Main story and others unlock due to opening new areas or filling requirements for an area gets you rewarded more side quests

I took my level THM/BLM to 50 real quickly by doing FATEs, I wa sonly @ level 35 Main story missions
Rather than waste all that XP, I leveled up GLD/PLD to 35 now (using FATEs again), I can continue my main missions from now on, and all that wasted XP on 50BLM will feed my 35 PLD

Then when I level LNC/DRG and ARC/SCH I have a bountiful of side quests that I left from BLM/PLD that they can use to get that extra pushover the hump and FATEs still will be my main XP maker

I can't even log in to idle before work. :( lol I haven't been able to get in and actually play since Thursday (I was in on Friday for about 20 minutes).

You have to realize this is a MMO, there will be hurdles and time sinks galore

Bahamut isn't even ready to be done, cause everyone right now is still gearing through the Tier sets, they have a lot of roadblocks in place to make you progress be hella slow

If you want the best gear it will take roughly 2 months of straight farming dungeons and grinding for tomes

Both Tomes have a 2000 cap, with one the Philopshy one have an extra layer cap of 300 per week
(Most later dungeons give you only 30 Tomes but a certain one gives you around 100, Hard Mode Primals give you like 4-5)
Yes you can only earn 300 Philosophy Tomes per week, and the max you can hold is 2000

I'm going to assume it's the same, but I can't guarantee that because I haven't made it there yet. Focusing on THM right now to get swiftcast at least and there are a handful of other things I need to take care of too.

Crystal Tower might be different when it launches, but most likely, it'll follow the same rule and have groups farm for seals.

I will add that the primal fights (at least Ifrit Hardmode) do drop weapons for jobs that are good to get and you should look into that along with seals.

Wait till you see North Thanlaan @45

A certain FATE gives you roughly 150,000 XP per 1.5 hour cycle, it's a 4 part FATE
N. Thanlaan in 5 hours took me from 47 BLM to 50 BLM, that is how ridiculous those FATE's were in handing out XP
*Hopefully it never gets nerfed

Everything in the game is seemingly designed to reduce bickering and frustration. Nothing feels random. I'm at a high level and I don't even know what to do. I just want to take some risks and I can't find that anywhere. It all feels very prescribed. Like as long as you go forward, it is all going to happen exactly as planned.

Guess i'll try that instead of Mor Dhona tonight

Dat feel when you're mashing the button to log in and you accidentally cancel out of a queue. Thank the server lords they put me back in it afterwards cuz now I'm back in the game!

I realize this is a MMO, lol. I have a lot of experience in them (years of both FFXI and WoW). It's kind of the reason why I bring it up. I don't mind farming for loot - that's all part of the end game. But bosses not dropping anything is just really boring. They should have had more tiers of gear for the end game because as of right now, there doesn't really seem to be all that many. I know this is just at launch, but I guess I was just expecting more... especially considering some of this gear was already in 1.0, so it's not like they made a ton of new sets for ARR.

The 8-man raids should have loot from the bosses, but they shouldn't be as good as the loot you can get from the vendors. I just see no reason to do the 8man story raids after the first time when I can farm the 4-mans quicker and easier and also get loot/tomes. Kind of a waste since they are cool looking raids - all that work went into them.

I'm going to assume it's the same, but I can't guarantee that because I haven't made it there yet. Focusing on THM right now to get swiftcast at least and there are a handful of other things I need to take care of too.

Yeah, I knew that the hard mode primal fights drop weapons. That's something at least.

Honest question: is there some kinda stigma attached to being DPS? Or is it because there's so many of them?

Too many of us

You have to realize the way Light Party dungeons work

1 Tank
1 Healer
2 DPS

You have only GLD/PLD or MRD/WAR
Healer is CNJ/WHM or ACN/SCH
DPS is EVERYTHING Else

So yeah DPS are bountiful, it's the other 2 slots that take a while to fill

Any WHMs yet to get the Madman's Whispering Rod melded with the two material needed on Ultros? I'm curious about how much it cost/what you converted to get the two materia.

Honest question: is there some kinda stigma attached to being DPS? Or is it because there's so many of them?

DPS is most common class in MMO's and easiest usually to play. There is never a shortage of DPS players in a MMO, but always tough finding healers and tanks. And then of course finding actual good healers and tanks is another question.

Yeah I understand that aspect of it, it's just that I see a few negative comments here and there across different boards seemingly about DPS just existing. Not everyone, just a few.

Wow. Stone Vigil was incredible and quite intense. These dungeons just keep getting better and better.
That was the first dungeon where I actually felt like I was in peril even during regular encounters.

Just finished that as well. Reading some guides, the packs sounded really hard but my pug was really good so it was actually pretty easy.

When are the server upgrades coming in? I'd like to be able to play this week... would be pretty neat.

We have maintenance just for that today starting @5PM PDT till 3AM PDT, a 10 hour maintenance

So East Coast/West Coast are locked out tonight from playing

PSA

LOG YOURSELF OUT in an INN or SANCTUARY, 10 hours of rested XP can be super beneficial

With this being my 2nd MMO I didn't realize DPS was the most common class. It does suck that it takes forever to find a group as DPS.
