Most of those dorks will be gone in October. 1.0 was the same way...a playground of trolls and ERPing weirdos when the game was free, and everyone left afterwards was super chill (mostly)

It's a different era for MMOs. Much more children are playing MMOs today than they were 10 years ago. They are also more accessible to new players.

I am going to regret playing on a Legacy server because even though I was a 32 GLD when ARR started, I've never once tanked in the game for a party. I did it for the first time the other day and after not knowing what I was doing at all, I was scorned a bit and the other players left angry in the end. But I learned a lot from that first experience and I've been rocking tanking ever since.

But I know that once I hit the higher dungeons, people are going to expect me to know what I'm doing... and it's going to be annoying. Playing with randoms in the duty finder will not be the most pleasant experience in this game.

Yea, I'd throw a pretty big fit too (healer) if people were whining just because someone is new. I mean, the game as been out ONE WEEK, wtf do they expect. At least they are communicating, which is more than i can say for some people who may as well be (boring) robots.

Arcanist is a DPS, so they should be casting their dots and debuffs, then damage spells first of all. Healing is considerably weaker than a dedicated class, but they should watch for emergencies.

You can pretty much let the squirrel do its thing for most fights; I haven't done anything yet where it was really necessary to manage it that closely, but I'm only LV 28 right now.
 
Where would people consider current "end-game" to start? I'm wondering at which instanced story quest I should start just asking GAF FC members to party with me so they'll be understanding that:

A) It's my first time
B) I'll want to watch the cutscenes

I haven't had issues with it so far up to story Ifrit, but I'm sure at some point the chances of running into people that are dicks to first timers will increase.
 
Duty finder hasn't been the raging pile of ass for me that some here have experienced lol. It's up and down, for example a tank that loves to soak in the scenery as opposed to going foreward or a dps that aoe's a shit load and then get killed over and over. But it's all good adds spice to the dungeon.


Is there a work around for the still logged in error? I'm experiencing that now.
 
Well, so far I've lucked out and have had pretty good luck, and have consistently been teamed with folks that've either been pleasant, understanding, or entirely silent.

*knocks on wood.*

I'm hopeful that it'll continue, for the most part.

Shame. What bothers me the most is at one point it was their first time too for all this stuff. Luckily I haven't encountered anything like that yet. In my first ever Temple of Qarn pt I just mentioned earlier, everyone in the pt except the SMN was a first timer. He himself had only been there once, he explained what he could and at the end everything went smoothly and we all had a great time.
 
Some of us are getting on without a problem, its actually kind of sweet being able to log in so quickly.

buuuut just wait until the kids get home from school and people get off work tonight... Prime time is going to be full of all kinds of fun server errors I bet.

I'm not that concerned about prime time. I'm more concerned about what's going to happen this weekend.

Probably, the problem shouldn't affect quite as many people, but the fact that Ultros is occasionally hitting capacity now, means that it'll be swamped again during prime time.

Mind you, the period where it's near impossible to log in will likely be briefer.

Arcanist pets require a lot less micromanagement than most pets in FFXI. You just let it do its thing and just make sure it doesn't cause random problems. The way they programmed it minimizes issues though so it's not a huge deal. The only thing you'd really have to do is manage its position on occasion but even then they're fairly durable and can be instantly summoned again.

They had seamless zones in 1.0 and it fucking sucked (lol PS3 limitations). I don't mind the separate zones due to how much more freedom they have with adding detail and unique designs and content in each area.
 
The kind of people complaining about first timers in dungeons are probably just the casual MMO hoppers that play everything on release. They'll only play for the free month which is why they're so damn eager to rush through everything and can't stand to see other players going at their own pace.

Hopefully in a month or two it won't be as bad.
 
My biggest problem with zones was losing chat in FFXI. Carrying a convo with someone was a chore sometimes with everyone having to stop talking while the other zoned.

FFXIV fixed that and now I dont mind them at all.

This was basically the Shroud area outside of Gridania, featuring miles of twisty green moss covered tunnels and nothing else.

Yeah. I'm not sure which part people on here are reacting to, but it's obvious some people are reacting to different bits. Not everyone can be elite and amazing on things. The game has been out a fucking week and there are already people that are mad that some people haven't memorized all the dungeons yet.

My advice is to not be a dick right off the bat if it is someone's first time in an instance. The fact that they are doing an instance means they want to progress and know they have to interact with people. Being a hostile prick from the start doesn't do anything to encourage them. Take the 30 seconds it takes to explain the encounters and help them try to learn to be better. Not everyone is going to be receptive or listen, but just assuming the worst from the beginning isn't the best.

Most of the time you didn't get this either until much higher levels when most people were focusing on end game content and hitting 75. By then most players had been on one job for several months and took some work to get to. End game was specifically this until CoP came along and there was content available for lower levels.

HNM Linkshells were basically this, but also tended to be heavily clique-ish when it came to drops, mergers, and when they were broken to create 'better' linkshells. Early CoP was when I dropped the game for good because I couldn't stand the attitude and the circle of good friends in the game shrank to just a handful that weren't the right jobs or not considered good enough because we weren't a part of the 'in' group.

Things here are out of hand because everyone is rushing to the top and anyone may even be remotely in their way makes their life hell and lash out quickly. Mainly at new players or those that don't play exactly like they do.

Yeah, I still play Everquest fairly often and they still haven't managed to make guild or group chat work while zoning, you just lose whatever they sent during that time. It works great here, though I would still prefer a seamless world.

Can someone explain how the Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar thing works. Does summoner/scholar override the arcanist class and they either become full healer or DPS, OR is summoner mostly DPS with some healing, while scholar is mostly healing with some DPS? I don't get how that works.

Plus does Ruin II make it pretty much a mobile caster?

I don't know, elitism always has a way of creeping up on ya in mmos. I was part of several big guilds in wow over many years and even amongst your own peeps you eventually see who some of them really are. Early on they are all talking about how they hate aholes but before you know it they become the aholes lol.

That said good vibes are contagious and I have been in guilds that were almost completely devoid of elitist pricks. It would be wicked if this guild became like that but with so many in it it will be a real challenge.

As for pugs meh you get some good ones and some bad. I never get upset over a bad one.

Don't forget, the game was insanely hard for the longest time. Add in the huge penalty for dying (including leveling down and all the crap that caused) and people were anal-retentive about doing their absolute damnedest to try and succeed.
 
Is it really only 1.0 players using tab to autochat quickly?
Hell I'll insert it into random bits of conversation for the fuck of it and a ton of other 1.0 / XI players do the same.

Almost no one new does it though, hell half of the people don't even know what the { } means
 
Why wouldnt you want to go dungeon diving with a new person anyway? You can teach them the best way to beat it, letting them pass it forward, you build server rep...if its all from the same place, and you get a new completion bonus.
