3DS Streetpass Experiences

(Europe here) I got 2 spotpass notifications today. One for the update and one for puzzle swap? If there is a new panel I certainly did not receive it. :(

Given no discussion here about it I'm guessing the message is a bug (possibly related to that Brain Training one and something like NOE moved the game to "don't care" from a scheduled September and thus denied the puzzle swap but did not cancel the message sending).

As for how things have gone so with the Emperor
I had about 180k when encountering him and he had somewhere over 400k, not too bad. Lost attempt one (but ragequit because why not...)
I think I've got enough soliders now to NOT get the "beat an army twice as strong" plaza ticket. I'll just be pleased to have the battle over...

Edit: It can not be said enough. The emperor is a game prolonging piece of junk, Especially as I'm
about 200,000 troops away from the next milestone; only having to win as many times as he does to win (I currently need 1 more win)

Edit 2: The update added something back. Total number of pieces (of all the puzzles you have) in puzzle swap.

Yesterday I got a streetpass from somebody with literally every puzzle piece and two puzzles I didn't even have. I chose one and it was something called "Nintendo Starlets".

Yeah I know, since the major update with the DLC, right? Or was it even earlier? I was just surprised because I hadn't seen anyone mention it before. Big improvement. :P

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's when it was added.

Yep, the Heroine (renamed Nintendo Starlets in NA), Xenoblade, New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U, and Skyward Sword puzzles were all released simultaneously with the Streetpass update, so you only got one of the four. The Mario and Luigi Dream Team puzzle came shortly thereafter, and JP also currently has a Chibi Robo puzzle to chew on.

Wait, so what exactly is the bug in Warrior's Way that's been fixed with the update? I've never encountered a bug...

I do wish they'd increase the army cap of 9,999,999, though. I've been maxed out for about a week now, and more and more people are going to be reaching that point with nowhere else to go from there...

Was it the crash bug discussed the last couple pages, or something else?

I think the cap should stay for now too. At PAX I wasn't capped when I came in, but still steamrolled everyone by far. Without a cap the difficulty in gaining new troops if you started late goes from horribly unfair to flat out impossible.

yiss, got all the pink pieces for the Skyward Sword puzzle. the first among the new ones. Only missing one for Starlets too.

where's my freaking Pikmin and Wonderful 101 puzzles?

It's certainly not impossible! There will always be people who start later than you with less troops that you can easily beat, and it's very possible to beat armies up to four times your size with the use of Play Coins for spying. Among StreetPass communities, though, so many people are going to be hitting 9,999,999 very soon, and everyone's charts will be filled with people with 9,999,999 troops. It kinda defeats the purpose of the whole ranking system.

The one mentioned earlier. System crashes when you got to fight. Was able to peacefully greet all, and then it froze when going to the main map.
It triggers when the game is trying to save (after a fights or greetings, while accessing rankings). It got fixed with the 3.2 update.

I'm having an issue here, I hope someone can help.

I took a road trip over the weekend and I got tons streetpass tags overall (rest stops are great for tags) but somehow I got zero tags for Mii Plaza. Is this related to the update somehow? I only just performed the update last night.

This morning, following my commute, my 3DS registered a tag for Mario Kart 7 and yet I didn't get a Mii Plaza tag.

I haven't gotten a Mii Plaza tag since last week. What is happening?

It's possible to not receive a Mii Plaza tag if the user you Streetpassed hasn't enabled Streetpass for Mii Plaza on their 3DS or if their queue is full. All you can do on your end is make sure Mii Plaza is one of your Streetpass enabled applications.

I'm off work this week, so I'm limited to passes from my home town.

Man cannot survive on 3 streetpasses per day!

I'm just confused about why it keeps happening. I can understand it happening once but this doesn't make sense.

Oh well, I guess I'll just see what happens over the next few days.

How are people getting such a high troop count? I started like a week ago and am only at 1,500 or so. I've only met one other person with the game and they have like 8,000.

Most of the other Streetpasses I get don't even have a troop count of over 100. At the rate I'm going, it'll be like 3 years before I even get to a million.

You get ~10% of the army you beat down each time you invade a region. It takes a while if you're not mashing play coins into it, but by the third loop through the game your troop gains per invasion is in the six digit range. I hit the 9,999,999 cap two regions away from the end of the third loop, which was just before I got the 20th castle expansion.

Troop gains from monarchs from afar are far less, something like 5% of their army size in my experience. It's the progression through the game that matters more.

It seems like it would take a while for me to do even that, though. I haven't gotten past the 4th country because it has over twice as many troops as I do. I probably won't be able to match it until like next week. =(

All the battles are scaled to be winnable with the troops you have as of the first time you attempt to invade. I don't recall exactly what the kink was for that one but I beat it on the first try - and you get a plaza ticket for beating an army more than twice your size.

In my top 20 for Battle up to position 12 is 9,999,999 with position 20 at 1 million. It quickly jumps to 4 million...

I just hope people are trying to get the "battle 300 times ticket" (or whatever other one they want to finish) as leaving it at 9,999,999 is trolling as it prevents most other players from beating you* (once I'm done with tickets I certainly plan to delete my progress).

*-Except the people with millions of troops who generally don't need it.

Did your batteries run low? There is an old glitch where it stops working if your batteries either run low or go flat. It has an easy fix, change hats.

Greetings I'm guessing is plaza population (the numbers I get seem to be that) with some probability of this happening (some people say frequent passers offer more, also a castle upgrade makes you more likely).

As for beating other monarchs. That is something like 2850+troops/20 (so for smaller armies it is more than 5% but larger ones approximate well).

I worked HARD to get to the cap - if you recall, I lost a grand total of 3.5 million troops to a capped Berserker army this past weekend, and I clawed my way back up to 9.2 million doing nothing but Streetpassing other people at PAX. This wouldn't have even been possible if there weren't other people at cap so I could beat them and claim my half million units from them. No, my progress is staying as long as I can keep it.

For people you pass who don't have the game it's plaza population, period; I've passed my JP 3DS at least twice a day without fail and it has never varied from the exact population number, even once.

I typically get around 3-5 each day that I'm on campus, some times more. It really depends the time of day and what buildings I walk in. If you have friends with 3DS', try to encourage them to carry theirs around for Street Passes too. If you get more people involved, the quicker you can complete things like Puzzle Swap and Find Mii.

What's the point of upgrading your castle in Warrior's Way?

I ask as I've done the upgrades while progressing and I haven't noticed anything changing, other than the look of my castle. This seems to have no bearing on my local game, and when I fight Streetpassed opponents, their castle status isn't displayed or (presumably) relevant.

So far I've seen the following happen:
  • The number of mercenaries you can hire increases.
  • The butler can give you hints more often.
  • You can spy on the enemy more often.
  • You become more likely to get units from monarchs.
And of course, you get a plaza ticket for reaching castle level 20.

I think it means you can hire more soldiers with play coins, doesn't it?

You get other perks from it, such as the spy ability, and then the ability to do it twice in a match. I just got one in the second playthrough that makes it more likely for opposing armies to give me troops (I think that's just when you elect not to fight them though)

Just started college recently. Today I took my 3DS around in my backpack and tagged 10 people with streetpass, so that's pretty cool.

Did you check your 3DS while out? 10 is the cap, if there were more to be had you would have needed to at least start greeting the first queue to let a second queue of 10 fill up.

Ah. I thought these upgrades were due to my beating the various kingdoms and/or gathering larger armies -- they are tied to the castle upgrades. That makes sense... you seem to get all your award/congratulations messages together, which is probably why I didn't see the connection.

For those people hypothesizing that the street pass update fixes Warrior's Way from freezing up and locking up your system, let me just quash those dreams right now. It just happened to me. Now I get to look forward to going back in tomorrow and probably having 200,000 soldiers run away because of their screwup. This is the third time I've experienced it, but only the first since today's update.

I've been hauling both my XL and my old 3DS to Disneyland. I went three times in the last week because my wife is getting the most out of our expiring passes.

Each time I get about 20 tags total for each 3DS. What is really interesting is that about half of the people that show up on one 3DS are totally different from the other 3DS.

Yeah, I walked around the mall today with 2 3DS's, one in each pocket. One got 3 tags, the other got 0....

Maybe the data transfer is kind of... slow? Depending on your proximity to the other person and what you're doing (sitting next to one another for five minutes versus walking by each other briskly), their 3DS might not have enough time to "see" more than just one other unit (e.g., one of yours) in that span of time.

I'm sure there are people who've tested stuff like this out, though.

It took two tries, but I did manage to beat the 4th country. I had to spend 10 Play Coins to get back the troops I lost from the first battle, though. =/

At least I won the 1.5x ticket. I wanna get the 2x ticket as soon as possible while the casualties from losses are minimized.

Wait until you unlock spying before you really try for that in earnest.

I'm pretty sure you'll get the ticket for defeating an army twice your size from the first final battle anyway. Then once you get the option to spy twice you'll rarely lose other than on the final country.

The highest army I've met through StreetPass so far was around 150,000. I'm just grinding the ticket for greeting monarchs from afar plus the 300 battles with monarchs one. Kinda dull. I wish they'd either not had an army limit at all or perhaps slowed your progress in some way; the army size increases at a remarkable rate once you break the 2million barrier.

It is great to have something more to do with StreetPass though. I wish Nintendo had better implementation of the feature in Mario Kart 7.

What I've been doing is entering a battle in the main quest with, say, scissors taking up the vast bulk of the size while minimising the other two. The army you send via StreetPass is locked to the proportions you last set so if the player spies on my army they'll be able to take advantage of those two weaker forces and get a much larger reward than if I'd just lessened my army as a whole.

I might just turn streetpass off for MK7.

It's not exactly causing any harm, but it's annoying to have it keep cluttering my notifications with worthless passes.

Got all the tickets for the new Mii Plaza games now. The final reward?
Get the final Mii Plaza ticket for getting the tickets in all the separate games. Was wondering how that last hat was going to be gotten. :lol
Thank you, Homepass creators/Nintendo! :D Now can finally get back to playing the retail/digital games that have been sitting there unplayed while the Mii Plaza games got all the play time. :lol

The Mario & Luigi Dream Team panel animation is amazing. Probably the best one yet. And you need to crank up the 3D effect to the max for full effect.

aaaaa I need this

still have a couple pink pieces left to get, and a whole bunch of blues :(

I've pretty much stopped playing Warrior's Way and Mii Force. I don't get enough tags to make Mii Force worthwhile and I had the bad luck of getting a HUGE army quick in WW so the last few countries have ridiculous counts.

I just let the queue fill (yep, I've not played Mario Kart for weeks).

That is true but it still requires a player to risk it hoping the monarch they face has done that (most I have encountered seem to be fairly even splits). If a monarch really wanted to troll they could also go and put 4.9 million in 2 armies.

Then again given the emperor battle is garbage and having 500k more troops would
put it to needing to win the same amount rather than 1 more.

Mii Force: You could supplement with play coins, maybe. Having more passes makes the game a bit more manageable. I personally find 5-6 is a reasonable compromise (plus it makes Garden work well)

Warriors Way: Apparently battles are always possible (in theory) with the army you invaded with so it might just take a case of lots of ragequitting (home button, close software) if you're about to lose and next time doing nothing (to avoid the lose 10% troops penalty). This makes the game sound worse...usually possible means put all your troops into 2 types and hope/spy the enemy to make things work out.

No, I didn't check until I got back to my dorm, but thanks for the tip. I'll check it while I'm out next time

Admittedly this was exactly how my army was set up at PAX, but more out of laziness than anything else (it was so I could just mash the button to get through the queue quickly without worrying about losing), but at cap your minimum army segment is at around 100k, meaning someone would need at least 200k at a bare minimum to have any chance of defeating a capped player with two minimum size segments. I only ran into 10 or so armies larger than a five digit number at PAX. A very large number were extremely small - a couple of times it was even the general themselves with absolutely no one behind them, which is kind of cute.
