HAHA.. it's so funny that I thought I could resist following BotA.

Couple random thoughts. Magneto should not wear his helmet indoors when he's in teacher mode. In battle? Badass. But it's annoying that he's wearing it while addressing his students. It's annoying and weird and I want to se his pretty hair.

Now that that important bit of business is out of the way, yes, let's talk about Jean. First of all
I will be totally heartbroken if they give us two Jeans and then we end up with no Jeans at the end of all this. Like, total nerdrage-rampage-in-the-streets-heartbroken. I thought it was sooooo INteresting that Scott was all "I'm glad we're in this together" or whatever and Jean was all "of course." Right after she raged about liars, see? She's the big liar. Or hider of true feelings, at least. Her asking Hank first was important, IMO. And she told Hank before that she wasn't in love with Scott, and I believe that. And, yeah, if she just kissed Hank only to check the wedding invite then wow, way to manipulate your friend for your own selfish interests. Typical hypocritical teenager is right. (But I do love her)

Anyways if we get a Jean in the end, she should be a single Jean. And I don't mean one, I mean not booed up. Yes even though she's sexy and even though she's emotionally all over the place- especially for that reason! But we know one dude she won't be matched with and that's Bobby. So funny how she didn't even include him in the discussion about escaping.
Haha, poor Bobby.

I think I'll pick up the finally issue of X-Men Legacy. I read the first issue and liked it but then lost track of the series, and I shouldn't have because Simon Spurrier is freaking amazing.

David Finch must be rushing to keep his work on schedule because the art in Forever Evil #1 was worse than usual for him. They should just give all crossovers to Ivan Reis.

Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series. We were told to ditch plans for Killer Croc’s origins; forced to drastically alter the original ending of our current arc, which would have defined Batwoman’s heroic future in bold new ways; and, most crushingly, prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married. All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end.

I doubt "girls kissing girls" is what they are referring to when they state "prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married". More than likely that is more about a character getting married. We're talking about comic books. Very few characters get married and / or stay married. Sometimes entire events are created to undo the marriages from having ever happened.

The blog gives only vague information. I know they were trying to do this weird thing where Killer Croc was like, part of some secret monster race that lives in the shadows or something? And was connected to Medusa somehow? I don't know. It didn't make any sense.

That being said, my interest in Batwoman has been wane as of late. She has become more and more an unlikeable character. She always kind of was but it has just gotten worse. Curious to see if the series will continue or not. It sells OK. Not great but not terrible either.

Yeah, it's probably just a coincidence. Characters never get married in comics.

I'm scared of whose hands they will put her in next, if any. I guess I couldn't expect that the only DC character I give a shit about wouldn't be fucked with sooner or later.
 
They didnt get fired....they left. Thats on them. DC has a whole universe to think about and if something they thought of months ago is going to clash with the universes overall story, the editors have every right to ask them to change it. I respect their decision to leave but there is a big picture to be looked at.

Of course they weren't going to last forever, not in this medium. That has literally zero to do with editorial jumping in and disallowing the marriage to happen in the first place. Not even close to the issue.

It might actually work for a gay/lesbian couple due to the inherent childlessness.

For straight ones, you don't want to have the Spider-Man problem, where you put the characters into a part of a person's life-cycle (after marriage, before kids) which normally doesn't last all that long.

Even more creators leaving because of editorial demands. But obviously DC is doing the right thing over and over again, right?

Batwoman is also very self contained, yes? I can see them not wanting the supernatural book to provide Killer Croc's origin but not wanting two characters that basically only belong to that book getting married? Who gives a shit? How did that hurt the overall universe that DC is building? It screams unnecessary.
 
Is someone trying to say I am bias against DC? I'm probably the oldest and biggest DC fanboy here. Their editorial is fucking horrid.

DC editorial's been dogshit ever since I started following this stuff (around 2002.) They've always been insanely reliant on cross-overs and miniseries to boost revenue since their main monthly titles don't actually sell all that well. It results in constant reboots, storylines getting screwed over, and makes for a very unpleasant experience as a reader. Johns' Teen Titans got absolutely trainwrecked by editorial erosion, which was a shame.

Marvel, on the other hand, has focused on re-invigorating their core properties one at a time. And it's worked.
 
Whatever. I'm on some irrational shit here right now. Don't mind me. But I knew this day was coming and I've been dreading it. It's been my favorite book since probably Sandman.

Y'all just told me Santa wasn't real.

Marvel does just as many if not more cross-overs than DC. Don't kid yourself into believing that they aren't just as aware of the power of the event. Marvel's continuity is just as much a joke. Both companies are terrible about it at times.

So, with this apparent news, I'm pretty much down to Batgirl and The Movement, and with all signs pointing to the latter going under soon, I'm down to just one. Care to reccomend anything on the DC side, ComicsGAF? :c

For a very, very long time while they were working their way out of bankruptcy to where they are now, Marvel would not do inter-book crossovers.

Sure, they'd do event title and tie-ins, but actual crossovers? Those were very rare. And it led to readers not suddenly having another book take theirs over for a few months, and interrupting the flow of TPBs.

Marvel is currently in the middle of a crossover that is taking over books. DC just got done doing the same the last two months.

I get that characters don't always stay together but writers should be able to let the couple's relationship run its course, not get interrupted by editorial.

I know they've brought them back in the past few years. I'm just saying that they haven't been relying on them for over a decade and a half.

Mera is Aquaman's wife. That has almost always been the case no matter the continuity. For some reason Aquaman is allowed to be a married man. She has died a few times? if I recall, but she almost always comes back.

I had to go to wiki to see. Because I thought the only early 00s crossover was Identity Crisis. But yeah they've been doing events non-stop since the late 90s.

Crazy that Identity Crisis is basically a decade old now.

Honestly? If those books plus Batwoman were the only ones that you found interesting then DC characters / continuity probably isn't for you. When it was around I might have suggested Legion, I'd probably also say Green Team and Vibe. But those are like The Movement, poor sellers so likely bound for cancellation. Currently there is more interest from readers in general on the core DC characters, so the fringe books haven't been fairing as well.

shit, come to think of it, how many successful marriages exist in comics? reed/sue, ralph/sue, and luke/jessica are the only ones i can think of
 
Oh man, I wonder how the gay community and it's allies will respond to JH's comments about DC editorial not allowing depictions of the marriage.

I tend to be pretty neutral about DC but with them making Renee disappear and then this..?

My only hope is that they a) continue the series and b) get awesome people to work on it who are c) on the same page with them about the character. Oh and hopefully that page isn't full of stupid.

Oh, no, I'm not really too opposed to the core books. In fact, I did express interest to several in the past (the Green Lantern books in particular, although the constant crossovers were getting annoying, and then there's Animal Man and the Shazam back-ups that are getting collected this month). I did buy the first several issues of Vibe, and I liked them, although by then the writing was more or less on the wall for that book, too. I just seem to have really awful luck with following DC books since I started. :/
 
I dropped Batwoman waaaaaaaaay back because I wasn't feeling the overall story but that's pretty shitty on DC's part. Those dudes deserve better than that, especially JHW.
